I thought he would develop into the edge rusher we still desperately need but so far all i can do is hope. Last night i noticed he lacked the burst of speed to beat offensive tackles. I wonder has his weight gain slowed him down...
There is no one on this forum that is going to convince me this guy isnt a Pats, Bills or Dolphins fan just here to troll us.
Yeah. He has played 2 games this season. Had a sack in his first game. Didn't play horrible in his second. No one is expecting 16 sacks. Be realistic or troll somewhere else.
Actually there was some poster a few months ago who was calling for Mauldin to get 10+ sacks. I forget who though.
bust? he was picked in the 3rd round not #3 overall... get out of here with that nonsense he probably wont be von miller, but pace like qb pressure while becoming this teams leader within a few years seems likely. macs best pick thus far
A third rounder is a third rounder because they take a little time to develop and see their full potential. He's light years ahead of our last few second round picks, so no, not a bust.
Really??? A bust...wow!! A bust after 2 games this season. We are fans people...not experts... Give this dude sometime 2 develope.
I think a lot of the game plan yesterday was trying to contain Tyrod in the pocket. So it's hard to judge the pass rush from yesterday's game. Mauldin will probably be a 7-8 sack guy per year, and probably an average starter to solid contributor. Which is fine, every team needs that kind of player, you can't have superstars everywhere.
Mauldin's a pretty solid bet to be a long time contributor. Superstar or even a sack artist? Not likely.
IMO 3rd round picks can't be busts. As the others have said, it's early. Give him some time. Also, as another poster said, they were containing Taylor in the pocket last night, not pinning back their ears and going after him.
Bowles challenge so far this season has been to keep Mauldin off the field by using 4 man fronts whenever possible. Mauldin has not made a jump from last season, and has been disappointing in training camp. Not sure if going from part time to full time was too much for him? But he's young and had tons of enthusiasm last season so I personally have a lot of hope for him going forward. On a different topic, who was that OLB last night that ran WAY up field giving Taylor a huge running lane??? Did you see Wlkerson throw up his arms in disgust at him like "WTF are you doing?"? Anyone remember that play and who the OLB was?
I didn't see Wilkerson throw his arms up, but I did see two separate plays where the LOLB made an inside rush on Taylor and lost outside containment. The first was Catapano. I don't recall if Taylor completed a pass on that play. On the TD to Salas, Stanford made an inside rush, lost containment, Taylor rolled right and threw the ball to Salas for the TD.
Not sure if it's a challenge to Bowles. He's going with the 4 man front and it's an obvious strength of the team. Jenkins and Catapano are ahead of Mauldin as it is anyway as the OLB. Are you talking about the Taylor TD to Salas? If so that was Stanford. Mauldin and Stanford broke down fundamentally on the two big Buffalo plays by Taylor. Guys who can't understand the fundamentals or fail to have the discipline to maintain them don't play. Mauldin also had a meltdown after that terrible off side penalty.
