My biggest concern/question mark resides with how well our offensive line will perform in terms of both pass protection and run blocking. To me, it's the most important key to our success and chances of winning this Sunday. Will they be able to open holes consistently for the running game a well as provide sufficient time for Fitz on most passing plays (particularly during obvious passing situations when the Bengals D & pass rushers will have their ears pinned back)? I believe that if our O-line does at least a solid job overall this Sunday then everything else should take care of itself and we'll chalk up win #1.
Totally agree about the offensive line. rushing yards will be hard to come by. If Jets try to force too many conventional up the middle runs > lead to lots of 3rd and longs. Hope the Jets throw on 1st early on. Safe dump offs to the running backs, screen plays. Not concerned with oline creating running lanes week1. I just hope they don't get shredded on passing plays. Bengals have a solid front 7. Guys like geno atkins( all pro ) , Carlos Dunlap will make running very difficult. Punting game will be key.. Jets should be much improved here. Hope Jets feast on field position....all Year. Hope Jets play smart and aggressive. Hope to not see any conservative 3rd and 7 draw plays up the middle.
Honestly this is a perfect time to beat the SHIT out of the bengals. I still feel like we owe them that after they flat out embarrassed us in Cinci few years back. I hate the hell out of that game. Marvin Jones makes me wanna puke whenever i hear his name (which is never pretty much outside of that game) I got a feeling Fitz will have a turnover for a TD or one that will lead to an easy TD but besides that we will feast on that offense and secondary. Heavily favored in the match ups.
I have a hard time respecting the Bengals, especially after watching that playoff game against Pitt. They are an undisciplined team with a lot of talent but no chemistry. Their coach is meek and runs a loose ship. We should beat the shit out of them. I know we could easily lose, but I would love to see us dominant their shit team. I can't take them seriously. If Bowles wants to impress me and wash away the taste of week 17 last year, he should have this team come out taking no prisoners. Same goes for Fitz, show me you can do it again. This is a great first test for us and it's one we should win in my opinion.
I just hope both of David Harris & Jordan Jenkins doesn't sit out. We're already without Sheldon Richardson for week one, so it would be a blow to be down 3 defensive starters in Richardson, Harris & Jenkins...
We need to take care of business from the opening whistle. We can not start slow, and pussy foot around with overly conservative play. We need to get them off their game. I frankly believe, contrary to most...that we are going to be better at stopping the run, and we should control the middle of the field and limit the YAC that killed our ass last year. Offensively, we must avoid stupid penalties like false start or holding. My concern is our ability to protect the QB with our paper thin OL. Particularly on obvious passing situations we need to figure out a way to give Fitz some time. Second and long and third and long are our Achilles heal. Play aggressive first and second down, because third and short is when we excel.
It is going to be a tough game. The Bengals are used to going on the road week 1, this is the 6th year in a row. They are a deep physical team. I worry about not being able to run the ball and becoming one dimensional with Fitzpatrick on offense. On defense I worry about stopping Bernard out of the backfield and getting beat deep once or so by A.J. Green. hopefully they can force Dalton into some turnovers early and get a lead so the Bengals are forced out of their comfort zone.
As this game gets closer and closer i am starting to gain confidence that we will leave jetlife with a W under our belts.
I hear you. As the games get closer I usually start becoming more pessimistic of the jets chances. Its the opposite for this game. I think Forte is going to come out and dominate in this game. I don't expect alot of rushing yards out of our rb's, maybe 60 combined but in the pass game I think forte gets 100 and a yd in his first game in green. Sunday cannot come fast enough.
Perhaps the hard early schedule is a blessing. Jets routinely are slow starters. Maybe the tough early games will force them to play efficiently from the start. Really looking foward to game 1. Very winnable game. Jets, Please start FAST.
I like this game for the Jets. Don't know if they'll win, but I like it. Bengals are missing a lot on offense, namely 3 of their top 4 passing options from last year (Marvin Jones, Mohammad Sanu, Tyler Eifert). The Jets always stop the run well. Put Revis and a safety on AJ Green and I'm not sure what else their offense has. Plus the Jets are at home.
I'm very concerned about the right side of our OL. Like, extremely concerned. That's a beast DL were facing.
Love that u guys are bullish on a jet win!!!!! I hope and pray for a win. But Being burned for 37+ years gives me pause. Cincy defense is stout and I'm worried about protection for Fitzy. Good teams win at home, and dammit we better win - but I would not even wager a nickel on my favorite team. Lets go Jets
