    +100!!!
If helmet to helmet is no-no, then whoever is responsible to the contact should be flagged. Half of the times the contact initiated by the ball carrier as a way to get a penalty.

Probably because it was 2nd and 10 with 36 seconds left in a 1 point ball game.

Newton himself didn't wanna come out, the Panthers didn't wanna take him out, and since the stakeholders themselves were fine moving on and nobody wanted to see Derek Anderson try to win the game they rolled with it.

I was told that NFL cares about concussions, that they will take these decisions away from the teams and players to ensure blah blah blah...

    Fucking hypocrites

I believe its on the rule book since last year that they are supposed to throw the flag now if a ball carrier lowers his head into the tackler. I haven't seen it called though

Never said he didn't look like he had potential but when people start going over the top with the praise like, "He looked like a veteran out there", for a QB that throws easy interceptions like the one to Benwikere. I did the eye test and he wasn't just "victimized by some bad breaks".

its an impossible task to give these part time referees a massive, ever growing rule book, and then ask them to watch for injured players too. They can't even define what is a catch on the field let alone give an on field concussion prognosis.

The kid looked promising, but not more than that. He was staring down the receivers some (like any rookie QB would do) and I expect the defenses will catch up in a game or 2. Still, pretty good for a 7th round pick.

    LOL, true :)
Never understood why refs are not employees of the league. It can't be that expensive and I imagine most of these guys wouls be glad to change their regular jobs for 6-mo a year higher paying gig.

actually its the opposite. The reason why they aren't full time NFL employees is because referee's union has fought hard to remain part time contracted employees. They'd rather make 100k on weekends in the fall and STILL have a 9-5 job with another salary on top of it.

Can't say I blame them for that but that's probably part of the reason they are making so many mistakes. If they worked year round, 40 hrs a week on the rule book, seems like they might get some more calls right.

The NFL has to be effing kidding me:

A shot like that with no penalty? Cam Newton is a great QB, great for the game and tough as nails.
Nobody should be allowed to do that, even if Newton himself can get up after the play, it's in
everybody's best interest to end that stuff.

The reason I know that is because I went to this forum once in Upstate NY where an NFL line judge from the area was giving a talk and doing a Q&A. It was really interesting.

He said some guys just work the games and thats it for a living but most refs work full time jobs in addition and they like it that way. He owned a contracting business himself that he worked 9-5 during the week. During football season he would work his job, on Friday nights/Saturday mornings for close games fly into the city of the game, ref the game on Sunday, and fly home after, just in time for work on monday morning. What a great life.

He was still heavily involved with the local referee chapter from where he got his start. So sometimes when he was assigned the close games where they are allowed to come in saturday mornings, he would work all week, ref a high school game on friday night and travel the next morning to ref the sunday NFL game.

He also said that the NFL reviews each and every call (or no call) from each and every referee all offseason. (but they must be pretty lenient on some of these guys :p) and that the hardest part is the rigorous physical testing they put these refs through. This particular ref was huge, 6'5 something but ran 3 miles every morning so he could stay in shape for the job.

Penalty? The offender should have been ejected. What about the rest?

Carolina should've won that game, even with the rookie corners and sieve-like oline.

Sorry Ledge, but IMHO Darian is full of it. Cam got hit low from behind, which cause him to lower his stand and the guy hit him after that right in the head. I don't buy into the suggestions of premeditated but nor do I buy that it was not a hit to the head. I will admit I can't stand Denver and don't trust anything they do motivation wise so I'm bias on this one, but it looked ugly to me.

It's definitely a hit to the head. The issue is premeditation.

Not one , or two but three hits to the head to Cam and the best the refs can do is call a total BS taunting 15 yard penalty at the beginning of the game after a TD. Officiating major fucks up to start the season.
