I always loved Antonio Allen as a Jet. Was an underdog type who always played the game the right way. Made the most of his opportunities on the playing field when his number was called. Always reminded me of a professional in terms of playing hard, never being a locker room distraction both on & off the field and never a cancer through the media. As far as a player I believe he'll make for a very sound backup for added depth behind Pryor & Gilchrist. Can play some corner too (when in Quarters formation) and can help us when scheming against opposing Tight Ends. I really hope at the age of only 27 that Allen can bounce back and return to form after a torn Achilles tendon (Vinny Testervarde killer) because in 2013-2014, Allen combined for 75 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 1 INT return for a TD, 1 forced fumble and always had a nose for being around the ball with at times excellent coverage ability down the middle of the field. Glad to have Allen back.
I'm probably overly excited about this... If Bowles actually uses him for what he's shown to be good at (Box/TE coverage) i'd approve even more. But i got a feeling he'll just be in rotation.
in terms of getting back to your "old self" after an injury, isn't it kind of the general consensus that a torn ACL is easier to come back from than an Achilles rupture?
Horrible signing. This guy can't cover anyone and plays the same position Pryor and Gilchrist. Not to mention, he is coming off an injury that can end careers at times. There's a reason he was still available and its because he is not very good.
Of course he plays the same position as Pryor and Gilchrist. That's because we signed him to be a backup.
Ohhhh......A backup Safety, depth, Special Teams, and we keep young bloods Martin and Middleton on the Practice Squad..... and he played some good Safety for us in the past....I think I have it now..... That's quite a concept
