How is the only guy that's had a pick somehow not good enough to get on the field with what they have?
I think Allen can make plays minus this season when nobody is. He's a safety. Rex admitted in his presser today that he benched Allen. And that he did it for coverage reasons and thought that Thomas matched up better. This is a good thing. Guys not playing well have to be sit down.
What has Allen shown besides one lucky pick against Brady last year that the guy can make plays? A washed up Ed Reed came in last year and had 3x as many picks as he did the last half year and showed something. He cant cover his own shadow against any WR or TE. He is literally worthless as a DB. His best bet would be to add on 30 lbs and make it as a LB because the only skill he has is tackling. Hopefully he is on the bench permanently because he is a bad play waiting to happen every time he steps on the field.
You do realize that Allen leads the team in passes defended this season, double anyone not named Walls....he's done fine for a Safety playing Corner....but that's always going to get burnt.
You're delusional. You must not be watching him get beat for a Td or 2 every game. Did you also just miss him get benched for a guy off the street today? But hey, you can hang your hat on a few passes defensed. Whatever helps you sleep at night
I agree with those who thought Allen was making progress at safety, but is being ruined by playing Cb. They are two different positions, and remember that Allen was a linebacker originally, so it was a stretch for him to play safety. I hardly mean to absolve him, but the FO and CS are imo more to blame for his obvious regression.
Good Week 1, mostly bad since then. The jerking back and forth from safety to cornerback to safety to cornerback almost never works for a young player especially when the guy, relatively speaking, is not a great talent. The Jets need to commit to him as a safety or cut him. He cannot play cornerback- not regularly anyway.
Hes been benched, is that right? Edit: Ah, I see - http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/20...tonio_allen_burned_by_kansas_city_chiefs.html
Calvin Pryor, Dawan Landry, Antonio Allen. They all play essentially the same position. That's why Allen is not on the field a lot at safety. Given the state of the season Landry should be on the bench and Allen on the field but that's not Rex's style. Note that Pryor and Allen are not any more complimentary in terms of skill sets than Pryor and Landry. Allen should still be getting snaps at CB also. It's not like the Jets have a lot of options there at this point. Milliner and McDougle both getting ko'd for the season left the Jets very high and dry at CB.
feel sorry for AA.. cant pick on him..you can just tell he worked his butt off this year and tryed his best to make the switch to cb...it didnt work out and i hope he gets his change at saftey again...he should have been the starter back there the whole time
