Yup, for every Cruz there's a Clowney. I'm as pleased about Anderson as anybody and called him out as one of our key UDFA pickups back in April, but I'll wait to see him do it in a game that counts before getting too excited.
Well, the wildcard there is the passes thrown his way. Fitz has no where near the arm strength that Petty has and judging by his td's, Anderson was mostly hit in stride rather than going up for jump balls, comebacks and such.
This is one of my concerns, not only has he not had a lot of time with the first team, but if he is expected to replace Devin Smith, it's just not going to happen. Part of the reason why Smith failed is because Fitz can't get the ball down field and hit the speedsters in stride, or let them go get it. On the other hand, Anderson looks like he is a better route runner than Smith, maybe it will help him with some of the underneath plays, where Smith failed as well.
You still have to show it, and keep trying. You have to have the threat. It's about timing also, not just arm strength. All it will take is one or two connections to make it a legit threat. D. Smith had hardly any work at all with Fitz due to Smith missing a ton of practice time. And Thompkins left a lot to be desired. Some good routes, and having the savvy to set things up, also will go a long way to helping Fitz out. It's on the WR too. Have Faith
How is it that these pro scouts are all looking at their own stopwatches? There isn't a master clock on site? They trust their own thumbs? That's baffling to me.
From the tape I've watched (YouTube highlight real disclosure), he at least has the ABILITY to go up and get the ball as well as the deep threat capability he showed this preseason. Now whether or not he can do it on a consistent basis in the NFL obviously remains to be seen. But the ability to elelvate and contest defenders is there.
I'm usually not caught up in the hype of rookies and especially the UDFA but I think we really might have something here Could be wrong but I got a good feeling about him as being a solid role player at the very least
Unlike at the NFL combine or other major/officially sanctioned sporting events like track and swimming where electronic timing instrumentation is commonplace, I believe many if not most of the college pro day events rely solely on hand held timing for the 10,20 & 40 yard dashes as well as the timed agility drills. If you were a scout representing an NFL team, would you rely on anybody's hand timed results other than your own and feel comfortable/confident in reporting those results to management? I sure as hell wouldn't. Particularly any hand timed results generated by the hometown coaching staff or local officials charged with any such responsibility who might have a conscious or unconscious bias in presenting recorded times a tick or two better than the actual results or scouts representing other NFL teams who might logically be inclined to indicate their recorded times as having been a tick or more slower. I've also read that in situations where trustworthy electronic timing is not available, in addition to using hand held timing devices, some scouts will record digital video of timed events/drills which they can then use thereafter to obtain precisely accurate times.
Thank you. No, of course I wouldn't trust anyone else's hand-timed results. But I wouldn't trust mine (or my scout's) either. That's my point. If you're off by a two tenths of a second, that's the difference between the NFL and the guy selling hot dogs. The hand-timing is totally unreliable no matter who is doing it. Digital video, as you said, seems vital. In fact I would just tell my scouts, "Don't even time it. Just tape it and run it though the software."
Well that's most deeply insightful of you, Mr. King!! I don't care what all these blind and clueless naysayers are saying about Robby being a pile of hype shite! I'm with you!! Your feelings about Anderson's future are eerily psychic in a humble, almost Kreskinesque kind of way. Let me be among the first to commend you on your brave wisdom and visionary foresight! I strongly urge you to express/share any future hunches you may have no matter how ridiculously far-fetched and improbable they may seem to the rest of us clueless morons.
I wouldn't worry abt qb styles and who he caught passes from. y'all realize his college tape is sick despite his qb being one of the most inaccurate throwers in the country.
I really don't like these "David Clowney" preseason comparisons to that of Robby Anderson. They aren't making any sense whatsoever. Not only is Anderson 6'3 when compared to Clowney being only 6'0, but Clowney never had the type of preseason emergence as that of Anderson's 2016 showing. Unlike Anderson, Clowney wasn't a rookie during 2008's preseason either (2nd year player) and unlike Clowney, Anderson never broke his collar bone (didn't make his 1st NFL catch until week 15). He's a horrible comparison to that of Robby. You can take Clowney's best preseason of 2008 and he still doesn't match the production of Anderson's rookie preseason of 2016. 2008 Clowney: 8 receptions (6 1st down receptions), 222 receiving yards and 2 TD receptions. 3 catches of 20+ yards/2 catches for 40+ yards. 2016 Anderson: 13 receptions (10 1st down receptions), 264 receiving yards & 3 TD receptions. 5 catches of 20+ yards/3 catches of 40+ yards. Anderson's production has Clowney's production beat within each and every statistical category (outside of average yards per reception). Receptions. Receiving yards. TD receptions. 1st down catches. Catches of 20+ yards. Catches of 40+ yards etc, etc. Clowney didn't match either of those when being "compared" to Anderson or vice versa. The biggest difference was that Clowney picked up all of his 2008 preseason numbers during only 1 game with 4 receptions, 163 receiving yards and two TD receptions when compared to Anderson who flashed during our final 3 preseason games (back, to back, to back performances). So when trying to compare Anderson's preseason emergence to the likes of someone else you'll have to dig a little bit deeper than that of "David Clowney". There is no comparison between the two. It'll be nice from the skeptics to actually find a Jets WR (over the past 20 years) that 'beats' the production of that of Anderson's 2016 preseason emerge before suggesting we should "calm our enthusiasm". And we've had some good one's too.
The biggest issue right now around Anderson is whether Fitzpatrick will be accurate enough to deliver a deep strike down field to him. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
