Interesting article about Anderson: http://thejetpress.com/2016/09/03/new-york-jets-truth-robby-anderson/ Also here are some of his college highlights.....I think we may have found a gem here. He didn't play in a great passing offense at Temple but he just looks so natural catching the ball
Thanks for posting this. I can see why the Jets liked this kid so much. After watching this, it's kind of shocking that he wasn't drafted. He has great hands, high points the ball, isn't afraid to go over the middle, is tough, and has great speed.
If that film is right, RA can certainly take a hit. If he performs anything remotely close to his highlight films, we may have found our WR of the future. I can see it now... "Petty to Robinson.."
He's got some good hands man and for a scrawny kid he makes catches in traffic like he's a 6'5 200 pounder
it is amazing that no one took a shot with even a 6th or 7th round pick. is it just coz he's skinny and doesn't fit the traditional mold? in either event, seems like we got a guy who can contribute his rookie year, and it cost us nothing. nice work Mac..
Will be very exciting to watch the progress of the three rookies, especially Anderson. If they could bulk him up just a little it would probably help a lot
Brandon Marshall (#1 outside). Robby Anderson (#2 outside). Eric Decker (inside/slot). That's the trio of WR's I'd like to see here in 2016 with Forte at HB. And of course both Marshall & Decker on the outside as 1's & 2's (When only going with two WR sets). Brandon Marshall (#1 outside). Robby Anderson (#2 outside). Eric Decker (inside/slot). Quincy Enunwa (TE). During obvious passing situations. And with 5 wide I'm anxious to see all of Marshall, Anderson, Decker, Enunwa and one of either Peake/Jalin as our 5th as pass catching options. Our offense will be dynamic this up coming season and Chan Gailey as an offensive coordinator will have unlimited options when dialing up plays. Robby Anderson emerging can simply electrify our offensive unit.
How about Allen Hurns from the Jags? He's listed at 6'3" and 195lbs, a mere 5 lbs more than Anderson (who's listed at 6'3" 190). In the meantime, for all those concerned that Anderson's body might be to fragile to endure the rigors of the game, check out his build on the video below taken from his Pro Day and tell me if he looks too scrawny or brittle to you.
Yes he still looks small that video changed nothing to be honest lol. It just showed his speed and he's cut which nobody doubted before. He needs to add pounds and more muscle I think to further his development and take the big hits like he did in college. These guys in the NFL are bigger faster and stronger
He probably could use some bulk but some guys are just wiry and get away with it.....He almost reminds me of Martavis Bryant in those highlights (just a tad shorter) Randy Moss also had a similar body type
While there's nothing that says he couldn't be lined up in the slot from time to time with excellent potential results, Anderson, at this point anyway, doesn't really fit the bill as what one would describe as a classic slot receiver. Decker is far better suited to that role based on his size and more expansive route tree. When I think of classic slot receiver types, players like Welker, Boldin, Maclin, Baldwin, OBJ, Cobb, Landry and Decker immediately come to mind although there are plenty of others, including, of course, the top pass catching TEs.
They're set with most skill positions but unless they give Fitz time it won't matter. If they get behind I wouldn't be opposed to a Fitz/Petty duo similar to Wood/Strock. Petty has the deep ball that Fitz never will.
You might be right but adding (or simply having) more weight and muscle is by no means an absolute in terms of protecting a player from injury or reducing his chances of incurring injury. Dez Bryant is just one example of a powerful and muscular WR who has proven himself to be more than slightly injury prone so far in his career. Will adding more weight and muscle (he's currently listed at 6'2" 220) protect him even further? Look at Victor Cruz. Using a player's height to weight ratio to ascertain or judge that player's short and long term durability is both a limited and arbitrary measure. There are certainly cases where it's valid as well as countless others where it bears no validity whatsoever. Time will tell. There are so many factors that govern an athlete's susceptibility to injury. Height and weight ratios can be just one of them but. as I said before, not necessarily. Flexibility, ligament and tendon strength, body control, reaction time and even peripheral vision can also be critically important factors in avoiding injuries. In Anderson's case, only time will tell whether he needs to add further weight and muscle and, if in doing so, it will serve to help both his game and durability.
He is under contract for 3 years, I would think they would wait until at least mid season next year if not after next season to extend.
Great points. To me, he reminded me so much of A.J Green with some of those jaw dropping deep sideline TD receptions. Nice comparison to Randy Moss (physical build). Moss was listed as 6'4/210 where as Anderson's 6'3/190. I feel it'll be a good outcome it Robby were to gain another 5-8 pounds. With his style of play as a deep threat why not emulate your physical statute after one of the greatest of all-time. He does look like a Randy Moss 2.0 out there tall, lanky & fast.
I will add he runs a 4.28 40. That's not only fast but at 6'3 that's scary fast. What makes his speed remarkable is that he has hands. Smooth route running. He's a special talent. Robby Anderson may just contend for NFL rookie of the Year alongside of Ezekiel Elliott. If his preseason breakout was a sign of things to come he's on the verge of emerging onto the NFL scene as an impact performer. He'll be our #2 WR on the outside opposite of Marshall while Decker works the middle & seems a good amount of time. He's going to have plenty of opportunities to shine. My hope is that Anderson makes me forget about missing out on the likes of Watkins, Beckham Jr, my boy out of FSU Benjamin and sadly both of Allen Robinson & Jarvis Landry. I loved them all heading into draft day. That's my hopes after I seen his preseason abilities on the field.
