Another kicker.... Jay Feely 2008-2009. He looked silly as a kicker with armbands and gloves but then again he wasn't afraid to mix it up with coverage tackling like the picture below, so hell if he wanted to wear the gloves have at it I guess..
Also #3 (K): Jay Feely He was pretty good for us during those two years as a Jet too; going 54/64 (84.4%). I'd actually say he was very good for us. I could be mistaken but I believe Feely made the last FG within the old Meadowlands as well.
BTW, Pat Leahy had a great Jets career, but any long-timers know how maddening he was, mostly in his Shea years. He got better with age, In retrospect, its surprising how loyal the organization was to him. In today's NFL he would not have had the same luxury. I'd go as far as saying that for the first half of his Jets career it was downright terrifying seeing him getting ready for an important kick. Our kickers these past ten years have been far more reliable.
Hard to believe Leahy was top 10 in FG Pct. 6 of his 18 years. Then again, back then mid 70% was high enough to lead the league many years.
This picture is heartbreaking. Brings back awful memories of 1999 where we went from serious AFC contenders to unfourtnate pretenders due to an injury to Vinny. Rick Mirer was pretty bad for us during his 6 games as a Jet. Completion percentage of only 54.0%, only 5 TD's compared to 9 INT's, only 132.8 passing yards per game, an awful QB Rating of 60.4 along with a losing record of 2-4. He was bad. We should've turned to Ray Lucas much earlier. Who had a nice run going 6-3 as our starter with decent numbers too. Bill Parcells really fumbled our quarterback situation after Vinny went down by sticking with Mirer for one too many games.
