Now that preseason is officially behind us and we can all start washing our minds of that performance of Hackenburg last night I think its time to turn our attention to the first real opponent of the season. The Bengals won the AFC North last year with a 12-4 record, went 6-2 at home and 6-2 on the road. If records say who you are then the Bengals are one hell of a football team and should be an early SB favorite. Playing only 13 games last season Dalton compiled 25 td's, 7 int's, and 3250 passing yards. Whatever you want to say about the ginger, the dude can play and seems to only be getting better and better. Of course having AJ. Green on the team makes life a lot easier and should be a great test for Revis in week 1. Running backs Gio and Hill are a good tandem but I only expect to see them make and significant contributions to their game plan in the passing game. We should stuff their run forcing Dalton to pass more then he would like. Thankfully Sanu and Jones have departed and are replaced with Lafell and Boyd? Both are a dropoff from what they have and we should be thankful with our uncertainty at the cb2 spot. I believe our defense will do well against the Bengals and hold them to 10-14 points if the offense doesn't shit the bed which leads me to the next point. The bengals have a great defense. The pressure they will put on our o-line should shut down any running game we try to establish. If our offense carries over from the 3rd preseason game this game could spiral out of control quickly and be an embarrassing home opener. The only way I see the Jets winning this game is by getting Enunwa and Forte involved in the passing game in order to free up some coverage looks for Marshall and Decker. If Fitz goes in there and tries to just force the ball to our two wr's, Bengals will eat us alive. In my opinion we will need our special teams to make a big play in order for us to get a win on the 11th. A blocked punt, a huge return for a td or deep into their territory, we will need to win the field position battle if we want to win. I think if the jets can get a big play on special we will walk out of with a score of 24-17. If our specials doesn't do anything or lets up a big play I can see a lose with 24-10, or 24-14.
I don't think Enunwa is the key to getting Decker and Marshal the ball, no one on the Bengals is worried about Enunwa, and he is not that good that he will make the bengals pay for trying to take away our primary receivers. Forte I agree with, Powell is also important for the jets as he showed last year he can make plays. Jets defense should keep us in the game. Bengals play smash mouth football, but they are very undisciplined. I expect the bengals to keep the jets in the game with a stupid mistake, but I can see the bengals defense causing some turnovers against the jets offense and Fitz trying to force one ball to many. Jets lose a close one.
I think it's Robby Anderson, rather than Enunwa, who can really cause some damage but regardless Fitzpatrick has a great trio of pass catching weapons to work with in Marshall on the outside, Decker coming out of the slot along with Forte and Powell both working out of the backfield. For a Cincinnati defense that ranked 21st in passing yards allowed last year I don't believe that they'll find the Jets passing attack as being "easy to defend" (although they do have a stout run defense). We should see Fitzpatrick's efficiency a lot more efficient this year, when compared to last year, due to having more pass catching weapons ala not as predictable. This should be a good game. A tough matchup between two teams who can both contend within the AFC. My keys to this specific game are A.) Darrelle Revis on A.J Green. If Revis can contain Green it'll be a long day for Dalton & B.) Our Defensive Line being led by 2 animals in Wilkerson & Williams. If our D-Line causes havoc on Andy Dalton while Revis also matches up with A.J Green on the outside; then I believe it'll be a long day for Cincinnati and N.Y escapes with a win. Just as Cincinnati's catching a big break with Sheldon being suspended we're also catching a big break with Vontaze Burfict being suspended. And thankfully we're not on the road and at home for this one. As already mentioned both Marvin Jones (Lions) & Mohamed Sanu (Falcons) are no longer with Cincinnati but another big break for our defense is Cincinnati will also be without Tyler Eifert who put up 52 receptions, 615 receiving yards & 13 TD receptions last year. I wouldn't be shocked to see Cincinnati rusty on offense with the likes of Sanu, Jones & Eifert of last year all being out (lots of moveable pieces). This is most defanetly a winnable game. And an important one too with Cincinnati as should-be players within the AFC playoff hunt by season's end.
Jets (home) over Bengals. Arizona over New England (away). Baltimore over Buffalo (away). Seattle over Miami (away). Heading into week two (2). N.Y.J: 1-0. N.E: 0-1. BUF: 0-1. MIA: 0-1. You heard (seen) it here first.
I was going to agree with you, but then I remembered how Rex could never beat the Ravens here. He is scared of the Ravens.
1) Revis on Green 2) Pressure Dalton all day 3) limit their running game which will force them into 3rd and longs all damn day 4) don't let Bernard beat us out of the backfield. Dalton will look to check down early and often if we get pressure since his safety blanket in Eifert won't be there 5) PUNCH THEM IN THE MOUTH FROM THE GET GO! 6) and most importantly. Leave jetlife stadium Sunday with a god damn win
Well I don't know. Their defense is in complete shambles right now with multiple injuries and suspension to key defensive players. It won't be easy for Buffalo on the road in Baltimore. I personally feel they have little chance to succeed early on due to a depleted defense. Nonetheless this game for the Jets vs. Cincinnati is big time. A chance to start off 1-0, at home, against a true conference contender; you can't let an opportunity like this slip away. Especially while all 3 divisional rivals open up on the road. Gotta capitalize.
Bal used to be a better team than they are now, and the Jills have a better offense than the Jets ever had under Rex. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
This board gives WAY TOO much respect to the Bengals... This is a very beatable, mediocre team. AJ Green is their biggest weapon, but that plays into 1 of our biggest strengths... VERY confident the JETS win this one... wouldn't even be surprised if it was a laugher... I expect the Jets to be the only 1-0 AFC East team after week 1, at which point most will be here talking up the SB...how we beat the mighty BENGALS...who will probably not even be a playoff team this year when all is said and done... Let's play some meaningful football already!!!
I love the optimism but a majority of this board is watching the games without green colored shades on. A mediocre team does not go 12-4 last year and to the playoffs each year for 4 years straight. The Bengals are one of the best afc teams, it will be a dog fight the whole way through.
I'm not a "sky is always blue" eternal Jets optimist by any stretch...i just think the Bengals, AT HOME, are not this vaunted opponent that others seem to think they are. I think there are many other tougher games on our schedule, including - @ BUF - short week, Rex, not the easiest place to play @ KC - arrowhead is always a tough one.. @ PITT - jets house of horrors @ ARI - legit SB contender, jets WC history @ SF - see part 2 above NE x 2 - always tough, although we put up a better fight than pretty much any other team, oddly enough except maybe NYG
I haven't posted here since the 2013 meeting, but with our teams facing off in week one, It gave me a chance to stop in again. The last time these teams met, I predicted a hard fought defensive battle and it ended up being a blowout victory in the Jungle. I think the Bengals are more than capable of winning this matchup as well, but the fact that it's on the road and the 1st game of the year, makes things a bit more unpredictable. I do expect it to be a good game, though I'll steer clear of predicting a score this time...since I wasn't even in the ballpark last time. I would also like to invite you guys to visit our message board as well - The Bengals Board. The new site was formed by the members of the official Bengals message board after it closed down last year, and it's still the most active Bengals forum on the web. While I can't wish you luck, I do hope it's a great game...with no injuries!
No disrespect brother, but the term 'mediocre' seems a bit much in any honest evaluation of the Bengals roster.
Where do you think you will look to exploit us? I don't think you guys match up that well vs us this time. No Eifert and no Berfict (sp?) are big losses for you guys.
I tend to think our D will take a different look this year. 1- Revis will not often be an Island against top WR like Green 2- We are no longer going to consistently allow long gains down the middle of our field because of slow LB play. They will have to earn the extra yardage. 3- We will be more explosive with our blitzes and more likely to rush the QB on a consistent basis. Dalton will not find himself with a lot of time on his hand For the Offense, well who knows 4- Hope we don't traditionally start slow which drives me insane. I hope like hell we open up the game early and loosen up their D. If they double team Brandon, the better for us. I want TE action, Enu down the middle and Forte off the line for quick 1,2,3 and throw. 5- Run outside and pass when they expect run 6- Let special teams be special this year.....
Yep, it's all about matchups, and I'm not so sure Cincy matches up that well against the Jets as they're currently built. I think it will be a close, low scoring game. But the Bengals probably pull it out.
Revis on Green would be the same mistake as Revis on Watkins, IMO. Revis needs Safety help or put him on Lafell to take him out of the game and 2x cover green. Skrine needs to handle the slot receiver be it Boyd or whoever IMO. Its nice to say take away the run--harder to do. Like u say, Bernard can catch and I don't know who we have that can cover him. Cinci RB's can win this game for them. NYJ needs to win turnovers and ST.
Revis usually plays AJ pretty tough, but I think Andy Dalton will still take his shots there. We'll see how that plays out. Tyler being out is a big loss, and LaFell has yet to really show anything. However, Tyler Boyd has looked great, making plays all over the field. I think they'll try to utilize him as much as possible. At RB, Jeremy Hill looks to be running much harder, and more decisively, than he did last year...combined with Gio, who also makes a lot of plays in the passing game. Andy's also looked pretty damn sharp in preseason, picking up where he left off last year. Defensively, as you mentioned, we'll be without Vontaze. A lot will depend on how much pressure the front 4 can muster against RF. Atkins looks dominant and Dunlap looks as good as he did last year, but they'll need to find pressure from other spots as well. IMO, the keys for the Bengals: Protect Andy Run early and often Keep pressure on Fitz Take the lead early
