I don't trust PFT, but really hope you're right.
If traded, even a conditional 4th would impress me a lot (as in great job by Mac), depending on what the base comp is.

I must admit that I'm torn. Like you, I'm still rooting for Geno to succeed (do well consistently) here, because that's what would be best for the team. Fitz could easily go down with an injury, or could revert to form and stink it up this season. Geno could come in handy at some point. OTOH, if the Jets could get a 4th round pick for him AND be able to keep another player they like, that would be pretty sweet. The Jets have been fleeced so many times, it would be nice to fleece someone else for a change. If Mac could get a 4th round pick for Geno, it might guarantee his unanimous election into the HOF in his first year of eligibility. ;)

In a vacuum a fourth for Geno is beyond fair but if it means we have to completely give up on the season if Fitz goes down I might not trade Geno. I would like to see Petty against the Eagles before I even consider trading Geno.

    Just stop with the nonsense.

    From the same article

It’s unlikely that the Jets would get much for Smith in a trade, but some team looking for an experienced backup might be willing to give them a conditional seventh-round pick. That’s better than nothing, and nothing is all the Jets end up with if they cut Smith.

Ok, I just read the full PFT. The whole thing is per Mehta so I call it bullshit, by default.

Why? Do you expect Geno to magically stop playing like shit?

I wouldn't have read that anyway. But knowing it's per Mehta I wouldn't wipe my ass with it

YIKES! Sorry, I missed that was by Mehta. Yes, that definitely casts doubt on its veracity. Bowles is pondering playing Geno on Thursday, and a Post reporter is speculating that the Jets may be showcasing Geno as normally one's backup wouldn't play in the last preseason game. If the Jets are planning to keep Geno, I hope they won't play him. All we would need would be for him to get hurt like Sanchez playing behind scrub OL.

He is the proverbial blind squirrel. He throws shit into the wind hoping some of it might stick.
Jets might very well have offers for Geno, but Mehta has absolutely no knowledge of it, all he's done was take a guess.

Exactly. I wouldn't doubt some feelers regarding Geno/Petty, but anything Mehta has to say at this point is dreck. This is how some of these ideas and stories circulate tho

    That's probably more like it...

Unknown GM: Hey, Mike I'm calling about your 4QB problem.

Mac: Yeah, it's not really a problem, they're all holding their own but we do have one too many. What did you have in mind?

Unknown GM: Well, we're looking for a backup, we might be interested in doing something with Petty seeing that you have Fitzpatrick locked in for now and Hackenberg being prepped for the future.

Mac: He's not really available now, he kind of looks like he could be useful right here but I have a guy with a fair amount of game experience and an arm like a rocket you can probably use; do you have a bag of balls hanging around?

Unknown GM: GTFOH! You should send me a dozen brand new balls just for listening to your bullshit!

If Petty has a better game Thursday it will be a tough decision which one to trade. As much as I don't like Smith he still has NFL experience

4th round picks like Petty are usually used as trade bait and we prob could get more from another team for a young talent like BP

On the other hand if you trade GeNo and Fitz goes down the pressure is on Petty big time given this years loaded Roster and PO expectations

Gut says Mac and the CS are prepared to make that decision when the time comes

The Jets might let Smith go imo Get something for that POS and put the future on Fitz Petty and Hack

If this goes down someone better tell Fitz to SLIDE and RUN OUTA BOUNDS or else the Season at risk

Jamarcus Russel has NFL experience too. He said he'd play for free. I'm sick of hearing about Geno Smith's experience like it's some kind of weapon he's going to be able to use on the field. His experience has shown he fucking sucks and we should avoid that experience in the future.
