I have to think it's between Peake and Ross. They didn't have Marshall playing with the ones yesterday because they plan on cutting him.
I think it'll come down to if they trust Marshall to return punts, and if they are willing to put Peake on the PS. Tough call, Marshall seems to have some ball security issues. If they think he can be good with that you're prolly right.
This might all come down to special teams. I haven't seen a lot from Robbie with ST, but Marshall, Ross and Peake have been good-decent. Robbie is too thin to be a gunner on the punt team and will get annihilated on kick coverage. I highly doubt they'll keep Robbie as a 5th or 6th receiver if they think he can't play ST.
Idk about Peake a teamer. He was gunning and always first to the punt returner but the man can't tackle to save his life, looked insanely out of place.
I agree. Peake is more decent. Marshall and Ross have been great, though and that might earn them a spot on this team. Todd Bowles saw last year what not focusing on ST can do for you. We easily lost 2-3 games, just because of ST.
IMO, he's done a better job than any of the other rookies so far in terms of demonstrating his value to step in to replace B Marshall or Decker in the event either get injured not to mention playing together with them in multiple wide receiver sets. He's got the most deep speed, best release off the line and the kid gets open more easily than any of them. I also think he has superior body control, better/softer hands, the widest catch radius and the highest upside.
I hope you're right. Before last night I thought Thompkins would stay, but now on second thought I'd rather your scenario. Makes sense considering Enunwa too.
Among rookies, absolutely. But, let me ask you a question. Would you rather have Robbie as a 4th receiver (Enunwa is definitely the 3rd) or have players like Prior, Skrine, Enunwa, Gilcrest, etc. playing special teams? Fact is that we can only have 45 active, so if you're the 4th receiver you better be a damn good special teams player. Will Robbie become a good receiver? Looks like he will. But he needs to bulk up a lot and he better play his ass off on special teams the 4th team to try and make this team.
I agree...cut Thompkins. damn it! He is a 28 year old journeyman who dropped the pass in the finale last year that would have brought us back. He nearly dropped the pass against Dallas which was his biggest play last year. He is due $1.5M and he is slower, older and has less upside than marshall, anderson or peake.
He already has vastly superior pure receiving skills compared to Enunwa whose hands have always been unreliable at best. His (Enunwa's) added value proposition has been because he is an excellent blocker and special teams contributor in the past. Anderson is the fastest receiver on our entire team and I honestly regard him as our 3rd best WR right now. As neither B. Marshall nor Decker can reliably stretch the field, I also consider Anderson to be the team's best deep threat (not that Fitz can reliably throw it that far).To me at least, this, together with my sincere belief that he will our #1 or #2 within the next 2-3 years makes his lack of special teams value immaterial.
Doesn't matter. There's no way he'd clear waivers and you can't let a kid with that kind of size, speed and ability get away. Better for STs to be weakened a little and possibly have a topflight WR in a year or two, than let him go, have better STs, and see him become a star elsewhere.
Well said. Imo Ross & Thompkins (both 28) have gots to go. With Devin Smith officially placed on the PUP we must keep all 3 of Jalin, Peake & Anderson. 1.) Brandon Marshall. 2.) Eric Decker. 3.) Quincy Enunwa. 4.) Robby Anderson. 5.) Charone Peake. 6.) Jalin Marshall (KR/PR). Point blank period imo as simple as that.
Thanks. My only quibble is that in addition to those 6, I'd keep Ross too in case Marshall struggles or gets injured. Ross has played well in preseason and had a good camp if camp reports are to be believed.
The whole Peake/Marshall/Ross problem stems from the rookies showing too much talent to get moved to the practice squad. It's a big risk because all of them have shined. Anderson, I believe, has earned himself a spot on the final 52. He's a deep threat and he can make things happen in the intermediate game. Marshall has been a TC standout and after his return in the first preseason game there's no chance he makes it to the practice squad IMO, he's shifty as hell and he gets open. He'd have a solidified spot if he didn't drop so many passes. Ross is the veteran version of Marshall a little more confident in what he does but with perhaps not as much upside, especially going beyond a year or two. Peake is the prototype number 1 wideout that fell because of injury concerns, great speed, fights for the ball, maybe not physical enough yet but with some strength and conditioning he could be a problem for any DB in the league. The perfect waiver pickup to stash on the practice squad for anyone we let have him. Anderson, Marshall and Peake could be our future at the position. IMO it'd be stupid to let any of them go, but at the same time I think Ross is a bit more consistent in gametime situations right now. Ideally I'd want to keep all four of them. If Bohannon gets a spot over one of these guys I'll be upset.
Yes, please. There is little upside with Thompkins and not much of a future on this team. It's an optimistic view, but you have Peake as the big play possession receiver, Jalin Marshall as the shifty slot receiver, and Robby Anderson as our burner. Here I thought we were in a really shitty position with the future of our wide receiver corps, yet if the coaching staff does right by keeping these youngsters we're in very very good shape here. If we cut any one of them, they're as good as gone and we might as well wave bye bye to a potentially very good player. The nice thing is that we'll likely have to keep at least two of the three so we're still in good shape in at least one of them panning out. I think the coaching staff and front office are going to do the right thing here. Anderson and Marshall seem to have locked in spots and something tells me they don't like cutting their own draft picks immediately so that's good news for Peake.
I feel like the three youngsters need a nickname ala the Sons of Anarchy, provided they all make the team. A seventh rounder and two undrafted free agents are poised to be the new wave of receivers while Devin Smith is recovering from a shattered whatever-the-hell.
You guys are way overrating two preseason games. No, Anderson is not better than Enunwa. I like Anderson, I just think he is by no means a lock and that he needs to show something on ST on Thursday in ordet to make the team over Marshall and Ross
They cant cut Anderson. That guy deserves a spot. I think he has real potential as a WR because not only does he run but he finds the football. If they cut him he will sign elsewhere and we will lose out on a young WR with potential
With Smith on PUP think we go with Marshall Decker Enunwa Jalin Ross Anderson Peake Kenbrell can always be added if anyone goes down as I doubt he gets picked up. 4 QB 4 RB 8 OL 2 TE 25 total for the offense. 25 D 3 ST
