You should be a nfl gm since you clearly know how to build a team and how to draft players. You got it all figured out
I believe it is the 3 option, and they can just keep working with him. No use putting him on the field right now.
And yet some posters here want Bowles to throw Hack out there in preseason and let him humiliate himself. I wouldn't care if Hack doesn't play one snap in a preseason game. If the Jets decide to keep only 3 QBs and decide to cut Geno, let him play and see if they can trade him for something. If the Jets decide to cut Petty, let him play. There's no way he'd make the PS and they might be able to get something decent usable in return. Hack needs to fix his mechanics, rebuild his confidence and get the opportunity to play behind a decent OL so he can put the "yips" behind him. Putting him out there behind the Jets crappy 3rd and 4th string OL could ruin any chances the kid has for developing.
https://www.profootballfocus.com/draft-10-most-overrated-2016-nfl-draft-prospects/ We drafted two of the top 10 overrated players in the 2016 draft.
So I am wrong huh? So you would use the first 3-4 picks of the draft to reach for projects, and with the other 3-4 picks find long term starters? Good luck. Try that with any pro team of any kind, then get use to being a cellar dweller.
Man, this whole situation and how it's being handled has caused such a vastly wide spectrum between optimism and pessimism for Hackenberg. It's actually kind of fascinating, albeit terrifying. As of now I'm with the optimistic crew. I like to think that the FO knew what it was doing since it drafted him so high. He's got the right brain to play QB which IMO is the most important aspect that contributes to being elite at the position. On top of that he has a great arm. The issues come with the mechanics, as many have already mentioned. I like to believe that that's what they will be working on to fix all season long behind the scenes. I like to think that they have this longer-term plan for him that does not involve this preseason. I agree with those who've said he's not getting preseason snaps because the coaches already know what they're going to see. However, to the extreme pessimists in this thread, you guys are starting to get to me. If Hack truly is the future, why are we not hearing about all the work that's going on to start fixing him? Why is he getting so little reps when he needs them to develop? The arguments that it's a 4 QB situation and that we need to figure out the Petty/Geno situation first and foremost given that they are more impactful than Hack on the upcoming season or two are valid. However, the low amount of reps he's getting is concerning, and we've heard reports from camp that he's looked borderline terrible when given those reps. It's just a really interesting situation that is going to be both fun and terrifying to watch play out. Is this all part of a calculated, elaborate plan? Will Hack develop as hoped? How long will it take to figure this out? Will we be getting any answers anytime soon? We're just going to have to wait and see. I'll remain hopeful for now, probably because I'm such a dedicated fan to this team and I just want this franchise to hit on a damn QB and be relevant already.
Hack can get the work he needs in practice were no one it trying to kill him. What he needs to work on doesn't require live game action. Hacks first year in college was very good, then things blew up before his second year. I don't think he's that far away from being ready to play... next year.
Food for thought on Hack....... His freshman season was his best under current Texans coach O'Brien. Allen Robinson was also on his team as a freshman, but wasn't thereafter. Hack's security blanket was gone and he wasn't as good in any other season without Robinson. That guy could make any QB look better, even Hack. O'brien moved ahead of the Jets in the second round of the 2016 draft, and didn't pick Hack. He chose a center, rather than picking the guy he mentored. At least he was smart enough to stay away from wasting a pick so high in the draft. Who knows, O'Brien may have chose him in the 7th if he was still there, or gave him a call as an UDFA. Our staff blew a high pick on him. Even Rex Ryan passed on Hack, instead picking Cardale Jones was it, later in the draft? Are you kidding me? Even Rex was smart enough! Google and Read "Why PFF doesn't have a draft able grade on Christian Hackenberg", and make sure you watch the videos. This guy can't hit the broad side of a barn. Accuracy is the most important thing in any sport that involves throwing, and this guy will never get it. Maybe this will give a glimpse as to why Macc missed. Hackenberg sucks, period. Why waste a high pick, all the correcting time and effort, and a roster spot for this joke? The reason the staff won't let Hack play, is because they don't want anyone to know what a screw up they have made in drafting this wasted pick.Enjoy
Don't listen to those pessimists. They can't see the forest for the trees and are just impatient and completely jaded and cynical. Some of them have whined and complained and criticized so often that they have become delusional thinking they know more than any GM or HC in the NFL. They use the excuse that no one's perfect and claim that Bowles/Mac not only could be wrong, but are wrong, when anyone with one whit of common sense or football experience knows that it's WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too early to make any kind of final judgments about Hack or any of the rookies. Mac and Bowles have earned our respect (or should have), and they deserve the benefit of the doubt until they start making big mistakes (where the results are final and the issue is clear). That isn't the case yet. So far all we have is idle speculation from "know it alls." You're not hearing about all the work that's going on with Hack for two reasons. One, that's not how Bowles and Mac operate. Previous regimes were loose-lipped and blabbed everything to the media. Not these guys. If you pay attention to when the media questions Bowles on the depth chart, injuries or any issue, he tells them very little. The other thing that is more important is that Gailey said that they are waiting until after the season to begin working on overhauling Hack's mechanics. Gailey said that it takes thousands of reps to change mechanics. There's no way that Hack can get those kinds of reps now when he's learning the offense, and the Jets need to figure out if they're going to keep 4 QBs, and if so get Geno ready for the season, and try to see what they have in Petty. A hundred or so reps is nothing when working on changing mechanics. It takes isolated work apart from thinking about individual play assignments/routes, and reading Ds. There's no way they could begin that work now. Gailey said that they've made a few suggestions to Hack, but he needs to learn the offense, adjust to the speed of the NFL, learn blocking schemes, etc. IMO they are handling Hack in precisely the correct manner. They're letting him adjust to life in the NFL now and learn the offense. The few reps he's getting in practice are to help him learn the offense and get used to the speed of the NFL and so that he won't get rusty or completely frustrated. Playing him in preseason behind a crap OL would expose him to an increased chance for injury in a real way, and would only further compound his issues with poor mechanics because of pressure from the pass rush. We've had FOs and CSs who didn't handle QBs or situations correctly. We finally have a set of very competent, experienced grown ups running things. They're doing things in the proper way. Jets fans need to learn to be patient, accept and trust Mac, Bowles and company, and let them do their jobs.
NC it is often hard to even read your posts because you spend a lot of time bitching about other posters.
Here's a thought....Petty beats Geno and is named our BU QB, taking all 2nd team reps, practice with ones (during reg season) getting some REAL practice time. But Geno is not cut, he's relegated to #4 QB and held onto the roster just in case a BU is actually needed and Petty ain't cutting it on Sundays. Best of both worlds. Geno still around just in case, Petty playing the roll of BU to get at least some experience for next season.
I guess Darron Lee and Jordan Jenkins are projects now. See, I didn't have to go looking through all the other threads to find proof of your stupidity.
Ya If Geno is cut and Petty starts and we do badly, the second guessing will be in full force and it won't matter if in fact Geno would have been an even worse option.
no....scrutiny from TGG. The very TGG experts that wanted Geno fired will be the same TGG experts calling for Mac's head for cutting Geno. Come on RuJ you KNOW this is beyond true!
I don't think a lot of people are saying this at all; Jet fans want to see Hackenberg get more reps in practice, not preseason games.
