Impressed with Petty tonight. Interesting how Hack didn't play. Petty by far out played Geno. One pick and he got pulled. Good for Coach Bowles.

As of right now, Matt Barkley is out playing Carson Palmer. Maybe Barkley should be the starter.

    This is how you sound.

good thing he didn't do that then. Geno just is not a smart qb. I will keep saying that he makes the same mistakes and can't read a defense. I am not saying Petty is the answer but he definitely looks better then Geno. Throwing the ball into triple coverage, there is no defense of Geno

So long as we can convince the other team to sign and start Washington's 4th string defense every week.

here is the thing the players he is playing with are also 2s and 3s. Petty is doing what he should be doing where geno is being geno

If he continues to progress like he has, next season, he will be our starting QB. As for Fitz and Geno... I doubt that they will be on the roster after the end of this season.

Geno had to show he was significantly better than Petty to win this QB race. He's not doing that. At best he looks even with Petty. (I personally think he looks worse than Petty).

Petty looks poised, confident, comfortable, he's making good reads, and he has a great arm. He's shown great progress from year 1 to year 2. It's exactly what you want to see out of a 4th round pick QB.

Now if you're Mikey Mac, and neither player has separated themselves from each other, do you stick with Geno, who the previous regime drafted. Or do you go with Petty, who you drafted?

    See ya later Geno.

Yeah, I mean he went from "can't read an NFL defense" to "best backup QB in the league" in a year with no game time. Imagine what he can accomplish in his second.

beats the regression Geno has made. Look no one is saying Petty is going to be great but he is doing his job and looking decent. Meanwhile Geno keeps looking worse and worse..how can you defend him throwing into triple coverage. These are the types of mistakes he keeps on making.

Love the Terrell Davis quote about Geno Smith 'turn over machine and that is bad football" and "he has shown no growth"

I've tried being really patient w Geno, but I just don't see it. I think we'll stick w him as a backup just because he has some NFL experience, then try to put Petty on the practice squad, but I'm honestly to the point where I'm ok cutting him.

    I don't care about pre-season games or stats, & I don't put stock in Petty's game results today. It's just pre-season.

I just don't know that it's ever going to click for Geno. Bad INT, stupid penalties...can't blame all that on playing with or against the 2nd/3rd string. Nothing about him today made me believe he'll take the next step, and it's been 3 full years.

Petty with what he has shown won't make it to the practice squad a team like the browns will grab him

He made a terrible throw but other than that I don't think he was especially bad....He didn't play well and seemed like he was disinterested which is bad to see

Petty played great after he settled down and I would like to see more of him

Regardless, it's still smart IMO to have Geno and Petty on the roster going into the season....Petty getting game planned for by starters if anything happens to Fitz is not anything close to vanilla defense vs 3rd stringers. Atleast we know we will be ok with Geno vs real NFL defenses...not anything good but Geno can do enough good things to get the job done with the rest of the team we have.

And hey, if Petty is the real deal and beats out Geno for the backup then that's fine...But I still think Geno is nice insurance because Fitz is definitely an injury risk

I have to admit now. I think if the Jets don't keep 4 QB's Geno will be cut.

It is not the terrible throw everyone has them it is the turn overs from those throws and the lack of learning or growth. Geno should be showing more, and I agree It is a step from 3rd string to 2nd against 1 st string defenses. But keep in mind he is playing with 3rd stringers himself and making better choices then Geno. Petty is doing what he needs to do while Geno is crapping the bed.

Geno made more then one bad throw the highlites show 5 or 6 on the nfl network, he also can't read the defense and has issues with progressions. These are issues he has had since day one in the league and he has not grown. 47 turn overs you would have thought he would have learned not to force the ball into coverage but defenses continue to bait him and he bites.

That's why Geno gets cut or traded. The Jets will not carry 4 QBs. They weren't willing to carry 4 last year when they really had no one to backup Firz for the first month or so. They figured that if Fitz got hurt they would just sign a vet and let Petty hand it off for the rest of the game in which Fitz got injured.

Even if Petty was perceived as being a little worse than Geno, Geno would still be gone at cut downs, because Geno has no future with this team. In order to remain with the team Geno has to show that he is significantly better than Petty and thus far Petty looks better.

I would agree except I believe Geno's contract is guaranteed this year. Assuming that is true, it's basically his saving grace this season.

I don't think he has the ability to envision how a play will develop ahead of time.

That is a gift that the best players have in just about any sport. You either have it or you don't.

Petty shows signs of having 'it'

Geno's looks shot to me. Any confidence he may have once had is gone I think. I think there may be a disconnect, or loss in confidence in him, within the team with him also. He looks like he doesn't know exactly what to do every time he looks out a defense.
