I think Ross should get the nod over Anderson. Anderson has just started coming on. He may be the future, but earlier in camp he was supposedly getting pushed around a lot and not making that many plays. He is fast, but thin. If the Jets think there's any possibility that he won't clear waivers and make the PS, then they may have to re-think things, but Ross is versatile and experienced. He's been having a great camp playing in the slot, split out wide, and returning both punts and kicks. Along with J. Marshall, he would give us two excellent KORs and depth/insurance at PR.

I can understand your wanting to keep Anderson over Ross, however. I wouldn't be upset if that's how things happen, but that would put a lot of pressure on Jalin Marshall to both stay healthy and be effective. If the Jets let Ross go and someone else signs him, and Jalin underperforms, gets the rookie jitters or God forbid, gets injured, the Jets will be hurting at returner.

Strictly on the basis of his experience, versatility and added value by providing important depth as a returner, I totally agree with you that at this moment, Ross holds a definite advantage over Anderson. That being said, I truly believe Robby has far superior upside which will inevitably emerge, be it this year or the next which will far overshadow whatever value Ross has over him at this juncture. Ideally (hopefully), we'll carry 7 WRs on the roster this season which will make this a moot discussion. If my hunch is correct, Anderson will continue to demonstrate his talent and progress during camp and the upcoming preseason games to the extent that the CS will realize that he won't likely clear waivers to enable our ability to stash him on the practice squad. He has superb hands, excellent deep speed and rare body control. I predict a great future for him. I just hope it's with us.

As far as D. Smith is concerned, I think he's going to be on the PUP well into the season and, particularly if Jalin, Peake, Ross and/or Anderson remain solid and/or maintain their developmental progress trajectories, I could easily imagine the team placing him on IR. I'd also like to see Worthy on the PS.

Well, o.k: I guess this is where I should say I'm sorry and apologize for not hiding my enthusiasm regarding our WR's unit heading into 2016. Thanks, but no thanks. I've waited a long time to rave about our offensive ability and overall offensive potential (just check my user name).

Fans have every right to gush about our pass catching weapons of 2016 especially with an all-time great pass catching HB out of the backfield in Matt Forte on the verge of returning.

When discussing the WR position I'm not one who's scared to admit that I was absolutely impressed with Brandon Marshall's prolific season as a #1 WR for us last year. Many of us are anxious and looking forward to Marshall's up coming season and acknowledge the fact that he's currently one of the league's top 5 most dominant NFL #1 Wide Receivers on the outside in today's game. Without question coming off the most dominant season any receiver of Jets history has ever put up.

Eric Decker down right flourished working out of the slots last year. I don't see posters or fans, such as yourself mentioning (within this thread) how Decker as only a 2nd year Jet last season combined for 80 receptions, 1,027 receiving yards to go along with another 12 TD receptions as our 2nd option. He's now emerged as one of the NFL's most dynamic/versatile & overall top 5 #2 receivers out.

Marshall & Decker as a tandem are coming off not one of, but the greatest receiving season any Jets WR duo has ever put up. Speaking of the WR position this Jets offense of 2016 now features one of if not the best overall 1-2 punch at receiver when amongst opposing teams top two receivers.

The makings of a top flight receiving group.

Could be one of the best overall units around because behind Marshall & Decker as two #1's you also have young pass catching prospects such as Quincy Enunwa, Charone Peake, Jalin Marshall, Devin Smith and Jace Amaro to develop, coach up and potentially emerge or even break out. Matt Forte fully healing and returning to action will put this Jets offensive passing attacks within the top 5.

Look. You may not be talking about it, but guess what? You're not me. And I'm not you. There are two types of football fans who post. One's who talk football while adding contribution and one's who spend time criticizing the ones talking football (on topic) without adding any value/substance of any kind whatsoever. And I know which category you fall into; therefore your kinds don't bother me. Actually very easily ignored. Matter of fact this was the first "post" I've quoted you on (actually quite pointless).

In closing it's been a long time since we've witnessed a group of receivers as intriguing as 2016's class.

Don't just knock my posts. Thats easy. That's troll like. Grown man no life type. Prove them wrong. Now that's football talk I can partake in.

As would Don Maynard and Art Powell. Their numbers together in 1960 (yes I know, I'm old) were 141rec/2432 yards/20 TDs. They were almost as prolific the next 2 seasons until Powell left as a FA for Oakland, where he caught 50 TDs and became the Raiders best receiver.

I liked your paragraph about the two types of fans on this board--those who talk football and those who do nothing but criticize those talking football. I call the second group the "movie critic" posters--never take a position or write anything original, just lay in the weeds and attack those who do offer suggestions. Need more of former, fewer of latter.

Is it set in stone that we only keep 6 active wr? With Smith on pup list that allows us to have Marshall,Decker,Enunwa,J.Marshall, Peake and Tompkins/Ross as receivers but if we roll with one TE less then normal couldn't we keep the extra wr and run some packages with Enunwa operating as some sort of hybrid TE?

Speaking of our WR's it's good news to see another elite pass catching option in Matt Forte finally beginning to see the field here in training camp.

This is a player who's one of the most productive pass catching HB's the NFL has ever seen. Has put up 487 receptions, 4,116 receiving yards along with 19 TD receptions throughout his 8 year NFL career (has only missed 8 career games). During only two playoff games also put up 13 receptions for 144 receiving yards.

Without question a big time X-Factor catching out of the backfield.

Can't wait until we see Forte as a 3 down back come the regular season because with Forte's pass protection along with his pass catching ability out of the backfield he's the type of 3 down back who can completely open up our passing attack alongside the likes of Marshall, Decker & Enunwa.

I would be shocked beyond words if the Jets keep 7 WRs, but would absolutely LOVE it! This is even more true if they keep 4 QBs. I agree that Robinson has more upside, but at this point, that's all he is, tantalizing potential. Ross is proven/experienced. I guess it will come down to whether the short term or long term view is more important to the Jets as to which will prevail.

Hoping that Jalin Marshall, Peake and Robinson ALL develop is almost too much to hope for but imo, the Jets are due some "luck." If they do, it won't matter if Devin Smith doesn't. If he does, the Jets could have the best and deepest WR corps within the next couple of years.

I think and hope that Worthy will make the PS as well. He's had an excellent camp based on the reports I've seen and deserves to.

    Well said NCJetsfan.

I just don't see how it's possible to carry 7 WR's if the plan is to first and foremost keep all 4 of our QB's.

Nonetheless it's a breath of fresh air to finally have all of this offensive depth at both our QB & WR position(s).

  15. If Smith goes to PUP I let either Thompkins or Ross ride till he returns. Otherwise I'm going with the youngsters.

    B Marshall
    Decker
    Enunwa
    Devon Smith
    Cherone Peake
    Jalin Marshall

Practice squad: Robbie Anderson & Chandler Worthy

It's not set in stone that we only keep 6 WR's.
There is a chance to keep 7, but it gets very challenging if we also keep 4 QB's.

Figure 25 offensive players make the cut (with 25 defensive players, and 3 specialists rounding out the 53).

    Last season, we kept 3 QB's, 4 RB's (including the fullback), 2 TE's, 6 WR's, and 10 Olineman.
So to keep 4 QB's AND 7 WR's, we'd have to stay at only 2 TE's, no FB, and reduce down to 9 Olineman.
It's possible, but we'd be very thin at RB and TE combined.

Enunwa playing H-back would help, as would an Olineman showing he can contribute as a 6th lineman/TE.
It will be interesting. The strength of our depth certainly seems to be at WR, and those WR's can play specials, so it may be worth getting creative with the roster.

Good points BtQ. It would work to keep 7 WRs in your scenario.

I think it would be no big deal to keep only 2 TEs, since that's quite possibly what will happen anyway, and as you pointed out Enunwa functioning as a H-Back helps. While Bohanon will likely make the team, I think it would be addition by subtraction if he doesn't. I trust Bowles, but I just don't see the point in keeping Bohanon. I read the other day that one of the OL served as a blocking TE last season anyway, so why couldn't he function as a FB in short yardage and red zone situations? If Seastrunk shows anything in preseason and practice, perhaps he could be the 4th RB. If disaster struck at RB, I'd rather have a real RB playing the position than a FB like Bohanon.

As far as the OL, assuming that Clady, Carpenter, Mangold, Winters and Giacomini are the starters, I would think the 4 backups would be Ijalana, Qvale, Dozier (or Wesley Johnson) and perhaps either Watts or Shell. Granted, we haven't seen practice and have only had a few reports, but based on those accounts and at least the first preseason game, Harrison has done little or nothing to make the team. Ijalana can play either tackle position. Qvale can play RT or RG. Dozier or Johnson can play either C or OG. I'm not sure that Shell has earned a spot on the roster over Watts, but they may be afraid he won't clear waivers, although I'd be surprised if he was claimed. So I think the OL would be ok with only 9. Didn't they just keep 8 OL a year or two ago?

On D, the 25 would likely be as follows.

DL - Mo, Richardson, S. Williams, McLendon, Simon,& Jarvis Jenkins (6)

LB - Harris, Henderson, Lee, Carter, Mauldin, Jordan Jenkins, Bishop and Catapano (8)

CB - Revis, Williams, Skrine, Milliner, Burris, & McDougle or Morris (6)

    S - Pryor, Gilchrist, Middleton, Miles, R. Martin (5)

Perhaps in lieu of a 5th safety, the Jets might keep Shelby Harris (DT) or Julian Howsare (LB) who can also play FB. The only other play I've heard mention so far that has stood out in camp is Julian Stanford, who is also on the starting STs units.

Richardson won't count on the roster until Week 2 because of his suspension. So we can keep an extra guy for one week. It gives us more time to make a decision, and if someone gets hurt, the decision gets made for us.

I'll tell you what this Robby Anderson is making a Victor Cruz type of preseason name for himself.

From my understanding he was by far Temple's best overall WR at 6'3 but I didn't quite expect this type of performance out of him putting up 6 receptions for 131 receiving yards and 1 TD tonight (long of 50 yards).

Although a few drops it was nice to see both Peake & Jalin both involved while recording 4 receptions each tonight. I loved Jalin's electrifying 80+ yard kick return last week. I also enjoyed Peake's 4 receptions along with a back shoulder TD reception in the end-zone vs Jacksonville last week but Robby's performance tonight tops both.

I wanna see us keep all 3 of Peake, Jalin & Anderson. I'm fine with letting Thompkins & Ross go.

I'd even release K.Davis (TE) if it means carrying 7 WR's and keeping the likes of 3 younger rookie receiver prospects to continue coaching up, developing & scouting.

I've made up my mind. These 7 WR's are who I want on our roster moving forward.

    Brandon Marshall.
    Eric Decker.
    Quincy Enunwa.
    Charone Peake.
    Jalin Marshall.
    Robby Anderson.
    Devin Smith (PUP).
