LOL why does it bother you that some fans actually support a player on the team they like?

If he does well tonight I doubt you'll be back here praising the guy...so it seems like Geno is in a no win situation...kinda like playing for Rex Ryan as a rookie QB with Kerley as your number 1 target :D

I am not dreaming shit the facts are the facts, I never wanted Geno and was pretty pissed when the Jets drafted him. But I will support him while he is here and want him to do well.

You can keep hanging on the dream that Petty will ever even see the field in an NFL regular season game, my money is that he won't.

Geno could go 15/16, 4 TDs, 1 INT, and 300 yards and all we would hear on here is "Yea, but how bout that interception? BUST!"

The music sets the tone, can't go wrong with Yakety Sax. Just put Benny Hill under center and you get the same result

Why do the newspaper guys have a dog in the back up QB fight? What did Geno Smith ever do to them?

In the unlikely event that he plays well I'll give him credit. I gave him credit for the nice TD he threw last week.

Watch his footwork tonight. That will tell you all you need to now about how far he has progressed in 4 years.

Petty is most likely just the next in a long list of failed jets qb picks. But so far from what I've seen this year he appears to be a better mold to work with than Geno who's in his 4th year and final year of his contract.

His footwork is not good (or consistent) but you have to take everything into consideration

He's a much better player now and the last 5 or so times we've seen him in actual games vs when he first started

Regardless I do agree with you that this is probably his last year with the Jets but I disagree on the constant trashing of the guy (not you just in general). He's actually a good backup QB with much better skills than most of them out there no matter how much people wouldn't like him as a starter

I consider a good backup QB to be a guy that can warm up quickly and make some plays to keep the offense in the game when the starter gets injured.

That is the opposite of what I saw in the Raiders game. I don't understand what makes him a good backup.

The footwork is the foundation for a lot of what a QB does in modern NFL offenses. It sets up the timing on progressions and reads and gives the QB a consistent, solid base to begin his throwing motion. That's why I was so down on him after rewatching last week. If he doesn't have that worked out by now he probably never will. Bill Walsh would have let this ship sail by now, I'd put money on it.

I'm obviously no expert but I think I've seen enough football to spot a shit QB when I see one. Sure I could be proven wrong, but I have a pretty good track record of spotting shit QBs. I mean as Jets fans we all should by now. When I keep seeing Jets fans cling onto shit QBs I just get annoyed. That is probably a fault of my own, but it is what it is. The more I read people hanging onto and trying to prop up shit QBs the more I want to talk shit about them. Again, a fault of my own.

Considering Geno doesn't have the foundation at this point and he's almost certainly gone next year I'd really hate to see us cut bait so quickly on a developmental QB who by my eyes has a much better foundation at this point and he's only in year two. I don't know much about Petty and haven't even seen him play much but based on the little bit I have seen so far I see a better prospect.

Yep. Year 4 and he drops back like he's trying to kill a bunch of scrambling roaches on the kitchen floor at 2am.

He can talk all he wants about how hard he works, but if he's still lacking so badly in a foundation fundamental like that, let him be some other team's problem.

Petty looks like he picked up footwork from under center pretty quickly for a guy who never did it in college

Yeah, it's not perfect but you can see the progress. Funny thing though, for a guy with such a quick release, he really doesn't need to have great footwork. But he's definitely getting there.

Cue Zace telling people that they can't name anything specific that Petty is doing well.

I agree at least you see some progression and progress with him. In Geno its the same BS over and over. Its a contract year and he still looks like a dear in headlights out there hes too old for that shyt.

Easy choice, Petty is just better.

I don't root against Geno- I wanted him to succeed, but he is just lost.

Unless Geno really lights it up against the Giants and/or the final preseason game, then I think Geno's gone and Bryce Petty will be the backup based on his very impressive performance tonight. Petty appears to have shown tonight that he's at worst comparable to Geno and potentially much better. He sat in there and took some shots to complete some impressive passes. Remember how last year the Jets did not sign a backup QB when Geno went down figuring that if Fitz missed some major time then they'd just sign a backup QB when necessary. Last year for those first 6 games or so, Petty was the backup QB (even though he clearly wasn't ready to be). Now he is. I think that after tonight the backup QB job is Petty's job to lose. Maybe they'll be able to trade Geno for a third day pick before cut downs.

    Not sure if joking

Petty played against 2's , 3's and cut players
However- I fully support Petty over Geno as our #2
