The Jets will go into this season with 4 QBs, UNLESS Petty proves he is close enough to Geno. If that happens Geno will be cut, but I don't see any chance that Petty or Hack will get cut this year. Best case scenario, Petty and Hack are competing for the QB1 spot next TC. I'd love to see Petty take the #2 spot, and with Geno imploding it just might happen. It would be a waste to cut Petty or Hack this year, and putting them on PS could mean another team grabs them.
Definitely true. If Petty came in looking clueless this year like he hadn't made much progress I think he would be gone. So far, it looks like he has been making progress learning the system. If he continues to improve I don't see how the Jets can cut him loose.
Isn't tagging gives a player average of top 5 salaries at his position? For QB that would mean over 20M. No way Jets are tagging Geno at this price, giving him a 3 year backup contract would be cheaper.
The first BOLD PREDICTION of the 2016 season. Haha I like it! 101 and Geno007 must be related to Geno. Right? They have to be.
"The most popular player on an NFL team is the back up QB". haha so much for that old adage...welcome to the dysfunctional NY Jets fan base!
I think they have lesser tags for much less money....Transition Tag and maybe others I guess it's possible but we should probably let the season play out
Still don't get the ultra Geno hate by fans...it's almost personal for some of them Immature kid came in right away to a really bad offensive team and had a few bright spots with a lot of tough play but he played hard and never quit.....Got punched in the face and lost his job but still has never spoken bad of NY or the fans I don't get it man....I go to most home games and I never understood the constant booing for certain players, and Geno gets it as bad as anyone I've seen
He's just not a likable guy. It's his body language, his facial expressions while speaking, and his disconnect from other players. He's the guy in the office that tries to fit in but just doesn't. The harder he tries the worse it gets. Geno Smith may wind up being an above average backup in the NFL, but I doubt it's with this organization. Warranted or not, Geno will always be loathed by this fan base
I don't think he's very likable but I still don't understand the extreme hatred.....Like the other night fans were just ready to jump at him like rabid dogs and boo the shit out of him for an incomplete pass in a preseason game I just don't think it's warranted at all....it's not like he blasted the fans or city or quit on the team or anything like that. He's just a young guy that has had a tough time adjusting to the NFL....and is now the backup QB. Fans should probably just turn the Geno hate notch down...maybe just a little bit?
Casserly was right, the fans need to get off his back. We may need him. I don't believe a lot of the people that aren't too thrilled about him as the starter are necessarily haters tho. I'm not. In the end Geno is better off getting a fresh start somewhere else. I think that's part of the equation, and may be a factor in managements thinking ultimately also. Mac and TB probably would rather not carry too much baggage from the previous regimes shit shows either. We may end up with several productive players from those years however, thankfully.
He may need a fresh start but we may need him this year...there's actually a very good chance we will need him at some point considering Fitzpatrick's injury history It just seems pretty ridiculous for fans to act the way they are towards Geno...He started off a little shaky, I get it, but the boos were a joke. He's getting the Sanchez treatment where people just can't wait to get their venom out at any chance He's trying to improve and he hasn't caused problems...Why are some fans still stuck on going after the kid? He's the backup right now and it seems like a smart idea to try and get his confidence going I don't know it's just some comments on social media, on here, friends that are fans of the Jets....Some people literally hate the guy and I just don't understand it. He's the damn backup QB...give the kid some slack and atleast wait until he actually deserves the negativity in a game that counts...
The fans booing just show they have no class. Go ahead and cut Geno and when Fitz goes down throw in Petty and watch the D cords have fun with him. Can you image the blitzes Rex Ryan would run or BB just to name 2.
Transition Tag and btw, I meant imagine this unlikely scenario. Geno actually does play well this year and leads the team to the 2nd round or some BS. Would you tag him or give him a long term deal? OR just let him walk even though he had a really good yr? How is that any different then Kirk Cousins last year? He got the franchise tag.
Or he just sucks. A beat writer recently predicted the Jets would try and put him on the PS after he clears waivers. So apparently, I am not the only one. Don't be salty Dark Knight ... you should look at every scenario.
