I think geno has shown improvement since rex left. T.c. reports were always brutal then, now they seem to be more positive. The only game action we have him in puts him at a comp % around 60. while he is still inconsistent his good has been better and his bad not as bad as we have seen prior to gailey's arrival
Looks like Geno is losing some of the momentum he once had. Really bad outing so far today. If he continues at this pace, he won't make the team potentially. Petty continuing to close the gap.
Even if Petty was getting poor reviews early on in OTA's it doesn't mean he couldn't take a big step up as the summer progressed and as he got more comfortable. That's how it works as it comes together. Just maybe our management is building the position into a position of strength....hopefully. I'm not saying it means a whole lot yet tho. FJF made a good point too. Under Gailey, Geno could be a good quality back up working within a game plan set up specifically for him.
I was hoping he would progress in some aspect, but I am not sure if he will do enough to close the gap between him and Geno. I am glad the Jets are building the position as a strength, but right now in terms of Geno: You are going to have days where you struggle, but IDK looks like the pressure as NotSatoshiNakamoto stated could be getting to him. Let's see if he has a bounce back practice and performs well in the 2nd preseason game.
Bad practice for Geno.....whatever, it happens Let's see what they do against Washington on Friday I still think the smart move is Hackenburg getting IR'ed eventually.....he's not playing this season and having Geno as the backup plus holding on to Petty seems like the best decision for now and the future
As I asked someone in another thread, what sense does it make to IR Hack? It does nothing for Hackenberg's development. Then next preseason he has been on the shelf for a year and possibly a step back because he hasn't been practicing.
It makes no sense at all. The real question is whether or not they will really carry four QBs..I doubt it.
It makes sense only in that you don't have to make a potentially hard decision between Petty and Geno and waste a roster spot carrying 4 qb's. I don't know about IR but I wouldn't be surprised to see him go on the PUP list which would give the Jets another 6 weeks to figure it all out before they had to decide one way or the other. Let's keep in mind that this whole debate assumes that the Jets will get through the rest of camp and pre-season without any QB injuries. Given our track record there is a decent chance that one of the four will go down with a legit injury and this whole debate will be moot.
If the front office truly belived Petty was the future then they wouldnt have wasted a valuable second round pick on Hackenberg.I honestly expect them to cut or trade Petty before week 1.Or practice squad him if hes eligble ,barring sonething unforseen happening....
Dude is just showing emotion. There's nothing wrong with how he reacted. If he didn't react, THEN it'd be concerning since it'd mean he doesn't give a crap.
So using the same logic what does it say about Geno? You think it's the second year guy they've given up on?
So what you're saying is that Petty against more of a 'regular season' defense will struggle? LOL How is that different from what we've already seen out of Geno's regular season resume?
Geno wont be here next season ,Hackenberg should be the one getting these preseason reps over Petty. If we wasted a second round pick on a guy we are afraid to let play in the preseason then thats just a discrace.Guys said the same things about Mclroy and Simms after preseason games and where are those two?I need to see Petty with the starters to really know anything at all.But either way atleast it makes these preseason games intresting...
