    Day 14 – Sunday 14th

Fitz was very hot yesterday with 4 TDs and going 11 of 18, Geno was OK 8 of 14 with an int while Petty was 7 of 12 and 1 TD – Hack was 1 of 1.

Not practicing: S Middleton, TE Saxton, RB Pierce, OLB Catapano, RB Williams and RB Morris. Forte doing individuals today and was only guy in pads. David Harris is back out there today. Freddie Bishop is with the first team at OLB spelling Mauldin and Qvale spelled Ijalana @ RT, Darron Lee also spelled Henderson at times too.

Leonard Roth, the agent for Christo Bilukidi, said the DL felt he would be better served pursuing business interests in Ottawa – Bowles said he just left and provided no explanation

    QB

After a hot day yesterday Fitz was cooler with 2 ints first to Skrine and late on Mauldin "sacked" Fitz on first play of 2-minute drill, offense false starts. 2 plays later, picked off by Pryor

Funny play: Dion Bailey bats a Fitzpatrick pass, Fitz catches it and runs, stretching out for the first down

Geno was sharper today but had reduced reps as Petty got a longer look. Petty made a few really nice throws and his biggest fan – Geno.
Geno had an absolute dime demonstrating great touch to Chandler Worthy over Burris with one of his best throws in camp and it led to big applause from crowd.

Petty was a little hit and miss today (more hit than miss) – did show good leadership as after each rep discussed it with the WR

Bowles on Hackenberg's limited camp reps: "When we decide we've seen enough of the other three guys, he'll play. He's in Study 101. He's learning a lot of things. He's grasping it. He has a great attitude..."

    RB

Powell did well but not too much positive to report until others are fully fit – Powell was particularly strong as a receiver. Bohanon flashed a lot today a showing some wheels and moves as did Seastrunk

    WR

Did not seem to be as strong a day for WRs between drops and coverage by CBs early – Enunwa, Peake, Thompkins and B Marshall very strong. Anderson also had some plays as the competition here remains hot.

    TE

Bostick and Suddfeld flashed a little while Amaro made some blocks to allow his QB go down field & later caught a Petty throw for an 80 yrd TD

    LB

Lee getting more 1st team reps and doing better each day – Henderson ran with the 2’s. Bishop took advantage of his time with the 1s to generate some pressure and make some plays as well as “2 sacks”

Bowles on OLB corps: "They all got their pluses and minuses. We're waiting for people to separate from the pack."

    CB

McDougle did well now he is back in the saddle; Burris did ok for the most part but got burned deep a little. Revis was 1-on-1 with Marshall without any fireworks, D Marshall got his share of plays but so did Revis. Skrine picked off Fitz and returned it for 6 as QB looked for Thompkins on the sideline.

Morris also made a few plays as he tries to catch a spot

    S

Miles continues his strong camp with some hits in the backfield while Pryor picked Fitz late on. Dion Bailey had a second good practice in a row and was very active and around the ball and picked off Petty to end the session.

Looks like the competition at WR, TE and S in increasing. That's good news! I'll believe positive info on Bohannon when I see it. I still think he was a wasted roster spot.

Don't see why Miles isn't a Lock for this roster. He filled in pretty solid IMO when Pryor went down at times last year.

Miles has a very good chance to make the roster - special teams ace in particular as his block on J Marshall's 80+ yrd KO return was critical late on - but given that the other 3 guys ne is battling for 2 spots were all signed by the current FO he needs to stand out more (IMO).

Jets signed another RB today - Antone Smith - and placed Bernard Pierce on IR. He had some good seasons wit the Falcons but is little more than a camp body given how decimated the RB position is.

Miles is a great utility player, Westhoff would have loved him as a gunner.

Really hope the Jets can work roster magic to keep him, because it's another right year without a long term answer at QB.

Practice Day 15 Tuesday August 16th

Rehab area after stretching: Forte, Middleton, Reilly, Saxton,

Khiry Robinson now in pads and while not in team drills started getting reps returning punts. Mo & McLendon returned on limited counts whilst Bowles continued his practice of giving vets some time off – Mangold & B Marshall did not participate.

Bowles really mixed it up and had a lot of rotations going giving some of the younger guys time with the 1’s

    QB

Fitz started hot but as later took a bunch of deep shots but did not connect on any – still stayed hot on the shorter stuff and hit Thompkins and Decker for TDs. But late on in a 2 minute drill he took 2 sacks and was picked by Hensderson

Geno had a rough start with a couple of mishandled shotgun snaps and a near interception by Ronald Martin and let frustration show. Later he got back on track and had a few nice completions fitting a few into tight windows hitting Robbie Anderson and Peake with excellent throws

Petty also had a rough start and Burris should have had an int – dropped another ball.

All 3 Struggled late on in the 2 minute drill as D shut the door on them and none really shone consistently.

Hack got reps running the scout team – made a few excellent deep throws and also had some not so pretty inaccurate ones – but was going against the Jets 1st team D.

    RB

Powell was stuffed a few times and Bohanon again seeing more carries as Jets wait for the RB situation to improve (Forte & Robinson still not in team drills) – both also did have a few nice runs

Forte said team being cautious with him – Bowles said previously that Forte saw just 17 snaps in preseason when with the Bears

    WR

Thompkins got to work with the 1’s in B Marshall’s absence, Peake had one circus catch and Worthy flashed a bit too. Quiet day for J Marshall and he and Ross (solid again) seem to be in a head to head. Enunwa solid again and working on his YAC production

    OL

With Mangold out resting they struggled to make lanes for the RBs or prevent the D sacking the QB. Would like to know who the centre was on the mishandled snaps (Johnson, Dozier & Friend all got reps) and more clarity on whether the snap was low – like Vs the Jags or Geno was at fault.

Winters has been solid at RG – having good camp and he stated himself he feels that he is more comfortable on right side of line

    TE

Very little info – Amaro had one drop but did not see much posted

    DL

Nice to see Mo and McLendon in team reps and as the starting line came together they were manhandling the OL at times – Leo flashed a few times breaking up runs for losses.

    LB

Starting line up taking shape with Mauldin and Jenkins getting extra reps with the 2’s, Bishop flashing now and getting a “sack” for the third day in a row. Lee is also getting more reps with the 1’s and swapping in and out with Henderson. Lee is building in confidence and had a BIG hit on Bohanon and levelled him.

Mauldin and Martin both sacked Fitz

Henderson picked Fitz off – he also had a really strong practice

    CB

Burris is really showing well but needs to convert chances – saw one estimate that he has dropped around 10 potential ints since camp began. Still inconsistent but developing nicely.

McDougle left holding his leg but was not on the training bench – may be being careful.

    S

Ronald Martin returned and nearly picked Geno – as I have said for some time with only 2 spots here and around 4 guys in the competition it is really hot. All have flashed during camp

    Teams

Folk tightening his grip on the job hit a 61 yrd field goal and was 6 for 6 on the day. Ross missed 1 from 42 to go 5 from 6 - will probably get kicking duties Friday Vs Washington but thereafter the Jets may settle this and use the spot to review depth elsewhere.

Has anyone been hurt more often this TC than Dexter McDougle? I've seen some stories not putting him on the roster bubble, but what good is keeping a guy who can't stay healthy? Another John Idzik beauty. 3rd rounder, --- could've been had in the 5th or 6th round. OG Gabe Jackson was drafted next by Oakland. That guy is dominating.

    Day 16 – Wednesday 17th

Not Practicing: RB Romar Morris, C Nick Mangold, CB Dexter McDougle, S Doug Middleton & WR Brandon Marshall. McDougle tweaked the same hammy that cost him over a week early in camp.

Wes Saxton, Matt Forte and Khiry Robinson are doing positional drills. Robinson also working on punt returns as were Jeremy Ross, Jalin Marshall, Kyle Williams and Eric Decker.

It was a card practice – walk through mode so limited comments of note. However mid way through Bowles stopped it and addressed them – then they ran gassers. Assume he was not happy with intensity / attention ahead of Friday’s game. Again like yesterday there was a lot of rotating as the CS & FO review who they think in with the 1’s, 2’s & 3’s.

    QB

Fitz opened strong – on his second series fitted one to Amaro for a TD and hit Forte but was almost picked off next time when one sailed a bit by the LBs.

Geno and W Johnson lack chemistry and had another bad snap/handle. However he is developing chemistry with Robbie Anderson and hit him multiple times

Petty replaced Fitz ahead of Geno and throws a beauty to J Marshall deep (65 yrds) for a TD beating Milliner. Petty getting more reps than Geno this week – interesting to see the game Friday and how extra reps for Petty translates to the game. Later Fitz said Petty has taken a huge jump from where he was a year ago.

Hack took some reps but was hot and cold, hit Jalin perfectly with Skrine and Gilchrist in tight coverage but next time it sailed over Suddfeld and was picked off by Ronald Martin

    RB

Forte showed no signs of rust early as he participated in team drills as did Robinson (although he had a non contact jersey on). Forte was sharp and looks like the RB we thought we signed juking Harris after a catch from Fitz. Later beats Henderson and Fitz hits him – smooth!!

    WR

Jalin Marshall popped again after a quiet day yesterday making several nice plays, Robbie Anderson also making plays as he tries to stick – most likely on the PS.

Thompkins also stepped up after a few quiet days and popped with some excellent diving catches.

Robbie Anderson showing off his deep speed for multiple receptions from Geno

Decker burned Burris deep but later got schooled by Revis

    TE

Amaro looked good in spots but little posted on the rest of them

    DL

Mo and McLendon both popped today

    LB

D Lee had a VERY strong practice and seems to be making more and more plays, had a sack of Fitz, stuffed runners and PD’s as well

    CB

Bryson Keeton got some reps but was beaten by both J Marshall & Decker on passes from Fitz

Revis was strong in practice looking like his old self jamming WRs at the line disrupting their routes

    S

Ronald Martin had himself a day, with 2 INTs of Hack in team drills first 1 sailed and he was ni right place and a second pick of Hack when a ball intended for Anderson was deflected and Martin there for the pick. He also broke up a few of Petty’s throws

    QB Stats from yesterday

Fitz went 19 of 27 with a TD to Decker. While he hit some nice throws - the TD in particular and the one where he led Forte to a long gain at Henderson's expense he also sailed a few putting too much air under them so in a game a CB or FS would had time to react and recover and would have been picked.

Geno went almost perfect 9 of 10 - no TDs but noi INT either, sole incompletion was a good play by Revis to break up a pass to Peake. Just one long bomb but mainly took what the D gave and seemed in the zone - calm, clear and collected. Best throw a long bomb to Amaro

Petty may have had more reps but fewer were pass plays - 6 of 7 with a TD. Looked comfortable and his TD to J Marshall was really sweet. Should have been picked by Martin but solid other than that.

Hack had 2 INTs en route to a 6 of 12 day. He was highly inconsistent throwing some that were elite and others that stunk!! Throwing into triple coverage will always be a recipe for disaster and this could be why they took it slowly - so the press and fans don't get on his back as he improves his mechanics.

One big take away was that both Fitz and Geno again suffered from poor snaps as Mangold sat again. Dozier and W Johnson reallyu need to work on accurate delivery when playing centre.

Major positives for both J Marshall and Robbie Anderson as they try and secure a job.

Miles' block on Marshall's return was a thing of beauty that I repeatedly watched in replays in both slo-mo and in real time. Without that awesome block, you can deduct 20-30 yards off of Marshall's return.

Another promising safety whom I really hope we at least manage to hold onto (practice squad if not 53 man roster) is Doug Middleton. Have you had an opportunity to observe him in action much?

Great to see Matt Forte finally getting into the thick of things while also looking smooth at the same time.

I'm praying his hamstring won't be a lingering one because when at full health he's a 3 down back and an overall top 5 NFL HB when at full strength.

Over the past 3 season's Forte ranks top 3 in regards to total offensive yards from scrimmage. It's been a long time since we've had a 3 down back that could both catch out of the backfield and pass protect.

In closing a trio of Marshall, Decker & Forte is very intriguing for this offensive attack moving forward.

Here is my stab at those who they cut from the roster August 30th when they have to get to 75 – majority have been added since May

    1. RB Antone Smith (no run out at all in preseason – prefer the FBs who know the plays)

    2. RB Terry Williams (no run out at all in preseason – prefer the FBs who know the plays)

    3. RB Lache Seastrunk (no run out at all in preseason – prefer the FBs who know the plays)

    4. KR Kyle Williams (mental errors in games and others preferred)

    5. OL Kyle Friend (too far down the depth chart with no chance of displacing others)

    6. OL Mike Liedike (too far down the depth chart with no chance of displacing others)

    7. OL Dahon Taylor (too far down the depth chart with no chance of displacing others)

    8. TE Jerome Cunningham (too far down the depth chart with no chance of displacing others)

    9. TE Jason Van Der Laan (they like him but too raw)

    10. DL Christo Biluidi (too far down the depth chart with no chance of displacing others)

    11. DL Tarow Barney (too far down the depth chart with no chance of displacing others)

    12. DL Helva Matungulu (too far down the depth chart with no chance of displacing others)

    13. CB Bryson Keeton (unlucky at this point – saw action

    14. K Ross (too many misses – plain and simple)

    15. T Reilly (Josh Martin playing better on both teams and reserve)

I was really disappointed with the effort last night- many missed tackles and a defence that is not getting opposition off the field. Watched in disbelief as our much vaunted D failed to stop the skins offence pick up 1st down after 1st down

Positives from 2nd Pre Season Game

Lachan Edwards – tells you all you need to know when the punter gets 1st call out.

Shelby Harris – continues to flash and make plays.

Robbie Anderson – showed up big time and has soft hands – making a major play at a roster spot (hope it is not elsewhere)

Petty – you can only play what is in front of you but after a shaky start he played well and made multiple throws cementing his roster spot

    Negatives

Fitz & Geno – neither looked good and Geno’s pick was unforgiveable.

    Amaro – too many drops

    J Marshall – see Amaro

OL – allowed too much pressure without Mangold

    Run Defence

    Pass Defence

Offence - No 3rd down conversion until 5:30 left on the clock in the third Qtr

What else - too many to mention

    Minor housekeeping

The Jets released Bernard Pierce who had been on IR and unable to practice since he signed - no subsequent move as he was on IR since 16/08 and therefore counted against the 90 man roster

Julien Obioha a UDFA DL who was waived with an injured designation having flashed in camp is now on IR

    Day 17 Sunday August 21st

A few more players sat after the game with injuries, Henderson sat with a stinger, Enunwa is in concussion protocol & Lawerence Thomas with a sore shoulder. Others who did not play also sat; Dominque Williams (concussion) Romar Morris (shoulder), Dex McDougle (hamstring) and Dion Bailey.

Bowles mixed and matched a lot again today but a lot of flags made this difficult – ended early due to poor weather

    QB

Fitz came out strong and kept it up going 14 of 18 and a nice 40 yard TD to Decker included. Looked sharp and made multiple throws to a variety of targets

Geno got a series of reps with the first team and had some REALLY nice throws and finished with a TD on a QB keeper. Went 15 of 22 with no INTs.

    Petty went 5 of 7 – took 2 sacks

Hack went 2 of 7 – no consistency and mechanics not there yet.

Jets QB reps today Ryan Fitzpatrick 37, Geno Smith 23, Christian Hackenberg 15, Bryce Petty 10.

    RB

Forte practiced and looked “sharp and smooth” – lined up all over the formation and should be a nightmare to defend

    WR

Decker really stood out with a number of excellent catches while J Marshall popped on a one handed catch and had an extended run with Enunwa sidelined. B Marshall had another strong outing. Peake had some nice plays while Anderson got nicked but did not miss time

    OL

Mangold returned thankfully as Qvale and Ijalana continued to share reps at RT – Dozier had a few forgettable moments and bad snaps could cost him a spot at this point

    LB

Bishop made a case with a pair of sacks whilst Catapano got arun out with the 1’s & Mauldin responded with a sack of his own.

D Lee continued to shine as he had some good plays in coverage

    CB

Milliner’s injury appears to have been minor and he had an impressive practice with a couple of PDs – was beaten by Decker for the long TD

    S

Middleton returned to practice whilst Pryor popped

Day 18 Monday August 22nd – getting down to the business end of camp and just over 1 week before the Turk makes his first round of visits. Final day of practice fully open to the media – they are off tomorrow and then on Wednesday and Thursday media access is limited to 30 minutes.

Not Practicing: CB McDougle (hammy), WR Enunwa (head), S Bailey, RBs Morris (shoulder) and D. Williams (concussion). TE Amaro & WR Thompkins sat with sore groins whilst more worryingly Jordan Jenkins left with a calf injury. Henderson also sat out of team drills

    QB

All QBs had a poor day, may have been due to pressure Sheldon and Leo applied as they abused the O line.

Fitz was OK but threw a pick to Lee who needed to make an acrobatic catch on the sideline. Later connected with Decker over excellent coverage by Revis. He went 10 of 18 with 1 TD, 1INT but took 4 sacks.

Geno started slow missing on his first 2 passes but again rebounded and hit Peake for a TD later on but let clock expire in 2 minute drill at the end of practice. Even so he went 10 of 15 with no INT –not too bad on a day none shone & 23 of 38 over the past 2 days. He did however continue to stare down his primary receiver and did not go through his progressions as well as he should

Petty was also picked by Lee in the end zone and had fewer reps than Geno – he went 2 of 4 on the day and 7 for 13 over the past 2 days. He almost threw a second pick but had one very nice deep completion to Robbie Anderson

Hack was really poor at the start and was picked off twice and nearly a third time but rebounded late with a TD to Peake. He went 5 of 11 on Monday and has seen a lot more reps over the last few days

I’m personally conflicted here as I want our QBs to shine but if they do then our D looks lack lustre. Petty's fewer reps could be to prep him as a back up if Geno was traded. For those who want an experienced QB I hear Denver may cut the experienced guy they brought in from Philly :confused::confused:;);):D:rolleyes:

    WR

B Marshall looked good but scared a few when taking a tumble, Decker again in tune with Fitz with Peake & J Marshall popping of the others.

    OL

Rough day for the line as they get pushed around

    DL

With charges of straight power and quick side-steps of finesse Sheldon and Leo constantly applied pressure on the quarterbacks and got into the backfield to stop running backs behind the line of scrimmage. Mo also popped and had a sack of Fitz and nearly picked him off too on a screen pass to Forte.

    LB

Lee has continued to come on like a train – things slowing and he is letting his ability and instincts take over allowing him make more and more plays – Bowles has noticed and stated would be comfortable if Lee started week 1.

Jenkins had 2 sacks before he suffered the lower leg injury

Josh Martin should have picked Hack but did not whilst Catapano saw reps with the 1’s for the second day on the trot.

    CB

Milliner contined to show good technique and had 2 INTs – both from Petty

Forte again looked good and was catching well, Khiry Robinson was involved in team drills but the DL owned the OL for much of the session and stuffed the runners behind the lines for the most part - tough to shine when you do not have holes

Nice....Looks like he's getting more and more comfortable. You could almost see him easing in from the first pre-season game as time went on.
    Inside is looking good.

Hopefully we start seeing more from Mauldin

I like that all (nearly all) of the big contracts are bunched with guys who really bring it and set a good example. On the field, at least. Revis, Marshall, Harris, Mo. Seems the front office has done a great job with the cap. Maybe Breno is the only overpaid guy. And that's not even a huge overpay. Maybe Im missing some, though?
