Geno was a little better than Petty. But remember Petty did not have the reps Geno had during training camp. Maybe next week game will show if Petty is over Geno.
I think we're going to see a phantom Hackenburg injury soon. But thats a good point. Its clear Geno is currently the backup, or he wouldnt be in right after Fitz.
Yeah I watched the game, did you? I'm hoping for better from him next week...by the way Quigs outpunted him last night, which don't mean shit....a 30 yd punt that rolled 21 yards and became a 51 yarder and a shank
I liked seeing Amaro burn a corner on a go route. If petty didn't slightly over throw him, it would have been a big gainer. Jailin and Peake have been pretty good as well. I think both could end up being big contributors in the future. Also watching the punt and kick returns for large gains was very refreshing! Also watching Milliner still fail to turn around for the ball wasn't very encouraging. Very Kyle Wilson-like.
Geno is not getting cut guys, sorry to disappoint some of you....backup QB is extremely important for this team when we have the rest of the pieces in place and considering Fitz's injury history and out of control scrambling Petty is a good prospect but he is not there yet to lead the Jets first team for the season if anything happens to Fitz early on.....Geno has experience in real NFL games and with this team in past practices Stash away Hack if you're that worried with some phantom injury but Geno is the backup unless he completely implodes....and even then I think we could sign a vet to backup Petty looks good against 3rd stringers but he's just not there yet I'm sorry
And this is the biggest thing against Milliner. It's OK to be outplayed by a superior WR, no shame in it. The problem is not turning your head to track the ball. This is fundamentals and a 3rd year guy should be doing it.
I still want to see more from Mauldin myself. A lot more. With Henderson also. I think our success this year will come down to the Defense, especially early, and I'm concerned a little. But still far to go and yet to see everybody on the field together....TB was playing basic D's also. Petty definitely has improved. Geno missed an open Amaro over the middle for an easy TD strike on the the TD to Peake. I sense that Geno is a little aloof from the team and that he doesn't really have a lot of camaraderie with his teammates, and might not get the support from them that others get. I have a feeling Geno would be better off with a fresh start somewhere else eventually I think there's a good chance that Petty will be better in the long term future.
Matt where did you feel he was coming up short? Just the eyeball test, i thought he was punting well, really getting under the ball for good hang time. Quick check of the stats, he avg over 42yds per punt, dropped 2 inside of the 20, and only allowed 2 total return yds (hang time not giving them much chance). I know we were both really frustrated with last years punting. it looked noticeably different to me yesterday. I want to see more of course, but so far really happy with the change. I'm already comfortable saying we have a major upgrade, and most likely a long term answer at the position.
Its hard to stash away Hackenberg with an "injury" if he never sees the field. The league might be pretty skeptical considering he doesn't see contact in the 2 plays he gets in practice and doesn't see the field in the preseason. Might have to give Petty that "injury."
They only way you can come off thinking Geno looked like Crap yesterday is if you have a predetermined opinion or agenda. There is almost 0 chance he gets cut or is not the backup this year, so the Geno haters better get used to that fact. If you think that Petty in any shape or form is the better option FOR THIS SEASON then I would like a hit off of what you are smoking.
There are some posters who seem to have made their minds up before the games - What about the back shoulder the Jags hit on Skrine earlier who also did not get a chance to look back - Robinson is a big and speedy WR who Bortles hit well on two throws one beating Skrine and the other Milliner. Neither played bad and both had good coverage. SOMETIMES THE THROW IS THAT GOOD. I also saw no complaint posted about Williams who was very loose on a slant for an 18 yrd gain on the Jags third possession - some players get passes it seems while other get black balled. I agree Milliner made a mess of a tackle but I saw little he could do on the two throws to Robinson - not too bad for a guy who was not in a game for a long time. Prior to that Miles had been slow to get through traffic to tackle their TE on a short dump off pass - no complaints about him either. Sheesh we are a tough set of fans to please
B2Q, he will do better next week but out of 6 punts 2 were terrible, a shank and a 30 yard punt that rolled another 21 yards, take those 21 yards away and he avg 39.5 a punt, Inconsistent, the good punts were high and not returned...just think he should have competition to keep him sharp, he'll be fine and it is a major upgrade over Quigs
Petty looked quite composed for a guy with almost no game time; Smith, not so much. Petty looks like he needs to read the field more rather than just lock on to his primary, though it didn't punish him last night. Smith is still consistently inconsistent, something you'd want to see him grow out of.
Liked Amaro's speed on that go route, he will have a LB or safety covering him out there during the season, a good mismatch
I can't see that happening. He might be able to outplay him but it kinda sounds like the Jets don't dislike Geno as much as the fans do. I think they believe he can play, and at worst gives them what they feel is a capable backup QB. I'm not saying I agree. I just don't think Petty has any shot of overtaking Geno this preseason.
Amaro could be such a greta piece of this offense if used right. Big body and can get down the field. I really hope the Jets decide to involve him in the offense this season.
Much simpler to put Hack on the PS and keep Fitz, Geno and Petty. I think with enough reps, Petty could push Geno for the 2nd spot. I have to say that Geno didn't look nearly as lost as he has in the past. Could be because he's playing for his next contract too.
There's no way Hack makes it to the practice squad. Most of the league would enter waiver claims the second he was released. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
