I hope I'm wrong but you Fitz lovers are going to be very disappointed this season. Here we have Fitz who's been nothing but a journeyman garbage quarterback. Doesn't know how to show up in the big games and has never been in the playoffs and to be honest will never be in the playoffs unless he's a backup. Have your hopes riding on a guy like that sorry I just don't get it. I'm not saying Geno it's going to be a great or even a good quarterback. Butt Fitz hasn't done nothing in this league. Yes he threw for more yards and any jet in jet history and touchdowns. That doesn't say how good he is that's that just tells you how many horrible quarterbacks the Jets have had

How many games did Geno win last season? I forget.

Anyway, I'm more a Geno homer than a Fitz lover. Fitz played beyond his ceiling last year and while 10 wins is usually awesome, we had POs in sight and he blew it. I was at the Bills game when we had like 3 chances in the 4th qtr to overcome INTs. His INT while in FG range is a true rookie mistake and completely unforgivable.

As far as Geno, he has the ability to play better than Fitz. But he gets rattled and panics too quickly and does some dumb things as a result. When the game is going good, I'll take Geno all day. But when facing a tough defense that's making life miserable, Geno seems to fall apart. If Geno can grow a pair and stand in there and think straight when all hells breaking loose, he could be our franchise QB. But if Bowles has seen him panic too many times to think he'll outgrow it, he's done.

I would love for Geno to start next year and take us to the POs. But what's more likely, is Geno will fill in for Fitz this season for like 3-5 games, play pretty good, then walk out to a huge contract with some (ANY) other team.

You just named just about all young QB's. I agree with you about Geno playing some games this year but I think it more like 10+ games. I also agree he walks after this season.

    Oh I understand, troll.
You are trying to justify your miserable excuse for a team by somehow diminishing our QB, that's perfectly clear.

History tells me that you'll continue to have a pro Geno direction to ALL of your posts . History also tells me that Geno isn't the guy. History tells me that Fitz's teammates love him. Not fake BS, but true love. Why is this? Because he relates to every background in that locker room.

Geno Smith has NFL caliber talent. More talent then Fitz.
Don't you understand, talent alone Doesn't win games or motivate every player to be their best. Geno deflates the team. Fitz has the teams trust and respect. Geno will never have that here. I'd actually rather see him cut and we keep Bryce and Hack.

    Cut out the cancer

Im not diminishing your qb. I'm ecstatic that he's your qb! I hope guys sign him long term. I'm praying that he remains your starting qb for many years to come. Thank God that Ryan Fitzpatrick is the Jets starting quarterback!!

I think you're angry at your team and not me. Is it my fault that you have a 30 something year old quarterback that has never taken a team to the playoffs while my Bills have a pro bowl qb in his mid 20s? Trust me when I say this, I feel your pain. I had to deal with Fitztragic for 4 years in Buffalo. I spent all 4 years cursing him and putting up endless "get rid of Fitz" threads on the Bills message boards. I know ur angry but yelling at me wont fix the mediocrity taking snaps for you this year and maybe the next couple of years.

Did you put a question mark because you asking us if he's in his mid-twenties, a pro-bowl quarterback or both? ....because you don't put question marks after rhetorical statements numb nuts.

I'm gonna go out on a limb considering I only passed pschye101 due to a curve (fuck that fruedian bullshit) but I'd guess the "person" posting on a rival team's messageboard to talk shit while his own team hasnt had a meaningful game since..... fuck, who knows when is the one with suppressed anger.

It's ok man... it's just sports. You guys can still claim spicy fried chicken wings, too bad your all time football star is a murderer in jail.

My whole thing is give Geno a shot with this talented offense. Anybody who sits there and says while I know what Geno is going to do is full of shit. Anybody who thinks a guy who only been in NFL 3 years can't improve don't know shit about football. As for you rather cut Geno and keep Petty and Hack shows us you don't have a clue about how a win now teams operates.

You wanting to play Geno over Fitz just proves you haven't a remote clue about how any win now team operates yourself.

Btw, the op may not be off. Petty is closer than you think to the #2 job.

I'm a Geno believer. I believe in his overall talents. Geno can make all the NFL throws, has an excellent arm, athletism needed in order to become a dual threat along with 2 years of starting experience/1 year of learning from the outside looking in.

But at the end of the day Fitzpatrick deserves another chance/shot with our Jets after having a career year, helping us to 10 wins along with setting a Franchise record for most TD's thrown.

I've been hard on Fitzpatrick. I've complained about his lack of arm strength along with the fact that he ranked at the very bottom last year in terms of Completion Percentage, INT's, Average Yards Per Attempt and QB Rating.

But I also like to be fair. Last year was his first year working alongside the likes of Marshall, Decker, Powell and Enunwa while both Amaro & Smith were injured. This year Fitzpatrick should have a lot more chemistry, cohesion, better timing, more trust & overall familiarity with the likes of Marshall, Decker, Powell & Enunwa (who looked great tonight with Fitzpatrick) while the likes of Amaro and hopefully Smith return from injury. Guys like Peake & Jalin could give Fitz more options within the passing game & there's no question Forte will become a blessing for Fitzpatrick to work with.

I can easily see Fitzpatrick having a much better season this year just due to chemistry & familiarity alone. All I'm asking out of Fitzpatrick is better efficiency in terms of completion percentage & QB Rating. Small sample size but he's off to a good preseason start thus far going 3/4 (75%), a QB Rating of 116.7 and 1 TD leading drive during only two series of play.

I want Geno to be given a chance with actual talent but that doesn't mean I don't believe Fitzpatrick can't have a much more efficient season when compared to last year. And if healthy I think he will.

Vinny Testaverde didn't have his amazing season with a QB Rating of over 100 until his 12th year in the league at the age of 35 back in 1998 with our Jets. I'm hopeful Fitzpatrick can do the same with improved efficiency due to more chemistry, continuity, cohesion, familiarity & experience come year #2 as a Jet.

I'm not seeing how his stats against teams since 2008 is even a relevant analysis, since every single team has changed drastically since.

for the same reason that hes also sometimes referred to as fitztragic ... magic and tragic are near-rhymes of patrick

if his last name was fitzgerald he would have neither of those monikers

its not that difficult to comprehend

The problem with Fitz is not in the stats. He'll put up good stats just fine.

The problem is that (1) he will not lead your time from behind in the 4th quarter and (2) even when you are ahead, he will make critical mistakes and interceptions in crunch time when the pressure is on. In all other areas he is a good QB, however, those are usually the most important times of a game and season, which is why he wins just enough (6 to 9 or 10 games) but will never be elite.

Good guy though, and nice backup QB.
