In 2014 Amaro as only a rookie was surrounded by the likes of... QB: A struggling 2nd year Geno/washed up Vick (3 starts). RB: Ivory/Chris Johnson. (Mind you Powell was yet to be utilized in 2014 going from only 33 rushes/11 receptions in 2014 to 70 rushes/47 receptions just last year). WR: Decker (#1). Harvin (only 8 games). Kerley. Nelson (6 gms/5 starts). Salas (10 gms/2 starts). Osusu (5 gms/4 catches). No wonder why that team only went 4-12. That offense was horrific but yet Amaro as a rookie still put up 38 receptions for 345 receiving yards during 14 games/only 4 starts while being surrounded by lackluster talent. What type of season can Amaro put up as a full 16 game starter being surrounded by the likes of... QB: Fitzpatrick coming off his career year as a veteran QB. RB's: Both Forte & Powell as pass catching options out of the backfield (with Forte being a great one). WR: Marshall (#1). Decker (#2) And surely the likes of Quincy Enenuwa, Devin Smith, Jalin Marshall, Kenbrell Thompkins & Charone Peake are better prospects when compared to the likes of Kerley, Nelson, Salas & Osusu, no? Man, when you think about it Amaro is in much better position for success as a pass catching TE heading into his 3rd season of 2016 when compared to his rookie year of 2014. I'm starting to feel as if he might begin to feast this up coming season considering the fact that from top to bottom he'll be surrounded by a lot more talent regarding pass catching options. You all remember Eric Ebron & Austin Seferian-Jenkins? Well Amaro had a better rookie season than both & neither had impressive 2nd seasons. Amaro could very well be better than both on an NFL level. Ebron did have a much better 2nd season as should Amaro this up coming season.
The only place I have seen the claim that 90% of his catches were within 5 yards of the LOS were in your posts. But that would be wrong, which also calls into question your assessments since you said you watched 3-4 of his games and this is what you saw. In 2013 Amaro had 567 YAC, being he had 1352 total yards and 106 receptions that would mean on average he caught the ball on 7.5 yards from the LOS. Now I do have a question, what do you think is the average spot a TE catches the ball because obviously you seem to have a problem with a TE who catches the ball within 5 yards of the LOS often. Do you think most catch it at 10 yards from the LOS? 12? What do you think is an acceptable average?
Out wide he will get a LB or safety in coverage, nice mismatch but he has to hold onto the ball and stay healthy
How fast he's moving is incredible for a guy his size. Seems to be making plays during camp. Now all he needs to do is put fear to rest and get in front of some rushers. Not worried about Jenkins beating him sometimes, Jenkins seems to be beating a lot of people.
I thought Amaro was decent for a rook in 2014. Yeah he had some drive killing drops that would make you hate a player... but i think he was just jittery and maybe over confident in himself at times.. He had some decent games though. I tell ya what, him instead of Kellen Davis would have been way more effective.
I don't really think amaro is the wildcard for this team. I am much more worried about our Oline. If the big uglies upfront can do their job and stay healthy (I'm looking at you Clady) we should be alright.
good post waterboy. That was a gimmick ass offense though at Texas Tech. Amaro did do most of his damage underneath. They threw damn near every down and all they did was spread people out and the QB looked deep at one option and then threw it underneath to Amaro. He wasn't a TE really but mostly a bigger WR. He really only had 1 year where he did anything at the college level, that's why he was so damn raw coming here. 1 year playing in an offense and a role nothing like the NFL. I will say though at the college level he showed a lot of ability to run after the catch and that's not something we've seen at all in his limited time here. unfortunately college TEs that go onto be successful pros have stories nothing like Amaro's. Most of them started for a long time and/or came out of pro style or running offense systems. Notre Dame is a factory as is Iowa, Wisconsin, Miami. Those places run the ball a lot and keep their TEs inside. Maybe they get used to blocking and fighting to get open from inside idk. Not too many successful college TEs coming out of these wacky spread offenses like TT, WVU, Baylor, TCU, etc. Amaro would have to buck the trend big time. He can do it but its not going to be easy and he doesn't strike me personality wise as a lunchpail go to work to improve type. We'll see.
He was an oversized slot receiver in Texas Tech. I think Amaro's role on this team will be short yardage gains, maybe the occasional win down the seam, and in the red zone. He's athletic, but not in the mold of Aaron Hernandez, all jokes aside if he stayed in the league he would've killed it. Hernandez had breakaway speed. Absolutely against the grain, but I think Amaro could carve out a role on this team. A reliable 3rd down target / RZ option.
yup there is absolutely a role for him, especially in the red zone. Last year this offense was good in the red zone and I think it had a lot to do with all the big targets. Now you got Amaro to add to that. Imagine 3 down from the 8 yard line and you got 6'4 Marshall, 6'3 Decker, 6'3 Enunwa, 6'6 Amaro. thats real nice. and yeah I agree Hernandez would've certainly killed it if he was around a little longer
Murder in the first degree, but good thing we got a hitman on our side! If only the Jets had Amaro out there instead of Kellen Davis during that Bills game in November, maybe we are all having a different discussion right now.
His highlight real was clearly photo shopped. It shows a big, fast, agile TE with really good hands!!!!
I like how he protects the ball. NFL d-men go for strip all the time, ball protection is critical. Amaro grabs it with both hand before the tackle.
Another good practice for Amaro today. Hopefully this all translates to the real games and he's not just the latest TC hero.
There's a whole bunch of receptions to be had by somebody other than Marshall/Decker, on top of what Forte/Powell get. Over the middle and in the seams could really be there for Amaro and that would help the team and Fitz out big time.
I watched Amaro play a ton in college and he has great hands. He has a natural ability to catch and run with the ball in stride that you can't teach. He was never asked to block much in college (used more like a big slot guy). Hopefully he can pull it together this year and produce.
