Yes - I believe that is the meaning.

Day 2 seems to have gone really well from an offensive point of view

Jets DE Sheldon Richardson was excused for a personal reason, per Todd Bowles. He will be back in a couple of days. Revis and Forte still not involved in team drills.

For those who want Geno - Fitz played well - took all the first team reps - Rich Cimini's & Conor Hughes' updates form the basis of the post

Jets practice recap: Terrific day by Ryan Fitzpatrick (23-for-26). But was also picked off by Skrine who he tried to throw the pass over but the CB
Some of the other comments - Beautiful, beautiful back-shoulder throw from Fitz-Thompkins. Milliner draped all over him. Nothing he could do. Threaded the needle

    For those who don't
Three nice deep balls by Geno Smith. Only blemish was an interception with 20 seconds on the clock in a hurry-up situation when he was picked off by Gilchrist. He delivered 2 passes 40 yards and right into the receivers hands, looked to have his eye in - best apparently was a deep pass to Kyle Williams.

Kenbrell Tbompkins has shown up well in the early going and his best catch of the day was a diving one on a long pass from Smith down the left sideline. Thompkins could have a big role behind Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.

Rookie WR Jalin Marshall is turning heads and getting reps with first team. Made a great leaping back-shoulder grab one pass from Fitz.

Undrafted free agent RB Romar Morris from North Carolina also flashed when he took a handoff from Smith and sprinted to pay dirt from around 25 yards out.

Jordan Jenkins, Lorenzo Mauldin your starting OLB as team drills begin. More first-team reps for rookie which hopefully leads to a strong camp.

In the defensive backfield all are showing well including Burris who had the unenviable red zone task of matching up with stud wideout Brandon Marshall. Fitzpatrick went to the fade, but the North Carolina State product competed well and knocked down the pass

Tomorrow is first time they will train in pads

Thanks for the update. You can't get a whole lot from camp updates but it's a good read.

And henceforth, referring to the guy as Kenbrell Tbompkins. It just has a certain ring to it.

No worries and will try to minimise typos. From what I have seen on the Net I will try to break down by position

    QB
On day 3 neither Fitz (16/26) or Geno were sharp - both had ints Geno led with 3 (all in the Red Zone 2 in 7/7 and 1 in 11/11) Fitz had 2 and was guilty of a fumble too. Geno finished with a pick for the second day while Fitz hit on a 1 yarder. Hack appears to be improving his accuracy and the staff saying nice things about Petty.

    RB
Powell looked good in pads and Forte showed off his hands when working with the jugs. Not too much being reported here as without pads and contact hard to call it.

    WR
One of the deepest groups and multiple players flashing which will make it difficult for the CS at cuts
Marshall much slimmer and making it look easy - one play that the D has not been able to stop in a 10-15 yard in with BM and whichever QB throws it playing pitch and catch.
Enumwa was improving his hands standing off the jugs by just five yards - has made a lot of nice plays
Jalin Marshall is really flashing and all reporters seem to give him more credit than the scouting community prior to the draft for his route running and ability to make plays - http://www.scout.com/nfl/jets/story/1690510-jalin-marshall-is-feeling-the-love
Thompkins really stepping up and having a strong camp
Kyle Williams (against 2/3 stringers doing well also) - but he hindered his chances when he muffed a punt return on Friday

    Negative (minor)
Robby Anderson was not strong enough to keep the ball after a catch when Milliner stripped him

    TE
Amaro stepping up to make catches and has some nice plays but inconsistent on blocking and was blown away by Jenkins on one play in particular but per Hughes did not do well blocking on Saturday - will only develop when in pads if we are honest and has been unable to do until now. Has spent an additional 30 minutes after practice on each day with the Jugs to work on eliminating drops - nice maturity levels.
Brandon Bostick has made a few catches and with his ability to play teams may push for a spot - but none really standing out.

    OL
Qvale, Ijalana (alternating to replace Breno - back injury) and Dozier replacing Carpenter (hammy) seem to be ahead of the others although FO/CS must hope Shell steps up but not too many comments on the OL thus far

    Defense
    DL

Hard to tell with both Mo and Sheldon away but reports I have read state that Leonard Williams is almost unblockable at times - in addition the absence of the big 2 have allowed others reps which will help the depth. Several others have flashed too though per reports with McLendon and Obihoa are the two names I have seen but with only 1 day in Pads hard to tell. Free-agent signing Jarvis Jenkins and Leonard Williams manned the outside of the defensive line for the majority of practice with Steve McLendon in the middle on Friday. Outside linebackers Jordan Jenkins and Lorenzo Mauldin also took turns putting their hands in the dirt.

    LB
This is a really positive area from what I have read

Jordan Jenkins and Mauldin both featuring prominently in all the positive updates - Jenkins in particular is having a strong camp and has taken EVERY first team rep and appears to be a "younger, stronger and more agile" Calvin Pace - nice words.
Darron Lee stepped up Saturday and was making plays all over the place - per Hughes "Lee flashed time and time again. He made the fullbacks and tight ends look silly in 1-on-1 blocking drills, blew past others during special teams and forced a fumble with significant physicality during 11-on-11s. It's early, but this may have been the turning point for the No. 20 pick in this year's draft."
Bruce Carter has also seen some positive comments and had an int of Geno to wrap things up.

    CB
Another really strong group through OTAs and opening days of TC
Skrine has really shone and is on his way to having a pick in every practice to date, Milliner is drawing rave reviews from all and sundry wheter it is Revis, coaches or reporters and is having a strong camp and will push for the No.s 2/3 job. Also hearing/reading McDougle is having a strong camp and is doing well.

    Safety
Miles and Middleton have received positive comments with both making picks - Middleton in particular was strong on Saturday and appears to have a shot at the fourth spot - backing up Gilchrist at FS with Miles looking at the spot behind Pryor.

    Teams
Edwards blasted the ball with consistency as one punt easily traveled more than 70 yards. Edwards’ hang-time, which topped 5.0 on a few occasions. The hang time is the main thing for me as it allows the coverage get to the returner and prevent them ripping one off.

This is also a nice article and for me explains why they cut the competition
    http://jetswire.usatoday.com/2016/0...wards-will-be-one-of-the-best-punters-around/

Both kickers wnet 6/6 and from ranges upto 58 yards - looking good here and who ever wins will probably be based on Kick Offs (unless the punter can do those)

Day 4 was also an indoors practice that ended up being closed to the fans - another issue is only 1 field indoors so limits the Reps for the 2', 3's & 4's.

McDougle sat out with a finger issue - happened Friday (does not sound like he would have missed an actual game). Revis was involved in position drills but they were not full speed.

    Per Cimini
Jets practice recap: Uneven day for Ryan Fitzpatrick -- 16-for-27, 1 INT, 1 sack (Slater stated Fitz was 14-for-24).
Fitz with a horrible decision to try and squeeze one to Decker but Buster wasn't having it and picked it for the Int per sources present. I see Conor Hughes said Fitz had a good day and was one of his daily stars BUT I saw the video on the official team site of the pick by Skrine and it was a weak side arm throw with Calvin Pryor also in the area - TERRIBLE THROW THAT HAD ME HAVING FLASH BACKS TO THE WEEK 17 BILLS GAME. Skrine took it to the house but it never should have been thrown. See what you think - http://www.newyorkjets.com/videos/v...am-Drill/23f76549-a761-4b69-98ee-5fb4aec1a6df

Better practice for Geno Smith per Cimini but no stats to go with his comments.

Standouts: Eric Decker - got free deep making Morris look silly, Buster Skrine (INT of Fitz), TE Brandon Bostick. A couple of coverage hiccups by Dee Milliner.

Conor Hughes reports had Fitz doing well and putting "mustard" on his passes, a few of which were bombs - Thompkins had a drop but others showed well Fitz was 12/20 at one stage so finished 4/7, not too clean and explains the gassers mentioned below.
Amaro had a nice diving catch on a throw by Petty and is showing improved hands per Slater and multiple others.
Jalin Marshall showed well in WR drills but had a dropped punt return. Per others "Jalin Marshall just shook Burris with an outside cut in one-on-ones so bad it hurt to watch"

Eric Decker showed well and had multiple catches while a slimmed down Brandon Marshall has not lost strength (threw Skrine around a bit)

Forte is not overly worried about his hamstring. He doesn't want the issue to linger. Stayed back to catch balls from the Jugs again - showing off his WR hands.

Taiwan Jones dropped a pick on a bad throw by Hack who hit him right on the numbers

Middleton had a pick on a Petty overthrow and Darron Lee had "sack" of Smith due to his speed. Petty also got sacked by the entire right side of the defense - not looking too sharp today by the sounds of it.

Todd Bowles may not have been pleased with the overall practice; ended with gassers.

Thanks for the updates, Will. Our linebackers are really encouraging, not only for this year, but for the long term possibilities of this defense.

The D is really becoming exciting to consider. There will be some bumps for the young LB's but I'm looking forward to see TB work here.

Milliner is fighting for his life. If he can stay healthy and win the CB spot and add that depth to the position that would be a great bonus. TB likes Williams too.

The New York Post's Brian Costello reports third-year TE Jace Amaro has "stood out" at Jets camp.

    http://nypost.com/2016/08/01/the-first-signs-of-a-long-awaited-jace-amaro-breakthrough/
"He is making a lot of catches, including a few diving ones, and has been a noticeable target in red-zone drills," Costello wrote. To this point, Amaro has been a total bust as the 49th overall pick of the 2014 draft, struggling to catch the ball as a rookie and then missing all of 2015 with a shoulder injury. Amaro has a chance to change that if he can make the team and climb to the top of the depth chart. He's taking blocking more seriously and has shed some weight.

Post also has a really nice write up after talking to Skrine - talking up the D and how everyone is playing faster in year 2 of the scheme - a lot of new pieces who also add speed
    http://nypost.com/2016/07/31/jets-defense-isnt-even-whole-and-its-already-terrifying/

From all that I have read looks like there are more positives coming out of camp with multiple battles for roster spots - many posters here noting the same.

Battles at almost every position on the Offensive side of the ball with strength in depth now apparent across the defensive side - will make cuts after pre-season game 3 interesting and difficult (sign of a good team)

I think Bostick is ineligible to be on the practice squad, I think he's been active in 6 or more NFL games. Note, the Packers.

I hear Bishop hasn't been doing too well at camp. The thought is that he bulled over people in Canada and he's trying to do that here, unsuccessfully. It's early though

Day 5 was a real poor day based on all the reports - on both sides of the ball with almost everyone struggling.

Several of those who were not involved returned - Forte, Carpenter & Sheldon all participated but Zach Sudfeld (knee), running back Bernard Pierce (hamstring) and cornerback Dexter McDougle (hand) didn’t practice.

    QB
Fitz had a poor practice with a demonstration of leadership at the end when he called a huddle to explain that such a poor result was not acceptable. Per Cimini It was one of those days. Unofficially, Ryan Fitzpatrick completed only 18 of 35 passes with one interception (a poor lob pass which Burrs picked off easily), including a handful of dropped passes. It didn't help matters that Fitzpatrick didnt' have four starters on the offensive line: Nick Mangold and Ryan Clady rested, and Breno Giacomini and James Carpenter sat with injuries. Fitzpatrick was off target most of the afternoon, picked off once, his passes inaccurate and lacking zip. He had another pass that L Williams nearly picked off an ill advised shovel pass - a poor day where he started 4/11 and was not at the races at all overthrowing both Decker and B Marshall but then hit 5 in a row - hot and cold like several games last year.
I did not see any reports on Genos stats but also read he was off, although Sheldon recorded a strip sack on him. Hack got 4 reps and went 3/3 - read somewhere he "flipped a 50 yard pass".
Petty nearly had one picked off in the endzone on a poor pass - Howsware looked like he woulf have the int but missed and it was hauled in by Saxton - also overthrew T Davis

    RB
Minor negative for his retention D Rodgers dropped a pass - given he is outside the bubble trying to get in any mistake hurts.
    Forte returned
    [IMG]

but Powell still got most reps - he was the one piece of good news for the offense was the running game was able to find a little more success than the passing game as he had an impressive day. Powell was constantly making sharp cuts, hitting the open holes, showing his value as a receiver and just bouncing off one defender after another.

    TE
Conor Hughes kept a close eye on Amaro to cover in more depth - major positives with improved conditioning (down 16lbs since April), blocking and catching (saw he is getting tips from Brandon Marshall). Looks like he wants to be the starter and made a few impressive grabs in team drills, including an up-the-seam catch over safety Marcus Gilchrist.

    OL
Did not see any reports of any standing out. W Johnson got some 1st team reps as they rested Mangold

    WR
Some positives on timing and chemistry between QB and B Marshall and Decker. Decker however was "getting it on" with Skrine who got the better of it but he won on his comeback route which is becoming an automatic catch each time.
Enunwa has improved his catching technique - positive reports from several sources. Thompkins continues to show well

    DL
Sheldon back in the fold - looked a little rusty while McLendon looks good

    LB
The pads brought out a lot of big hits, unfortunately for Romar Morris he was one the receiving end of most of them including one play where Jarvis Jenkins drove him a good foot or two into the earth,
Darron Lee is not running with first team - that seems to be Erin Henderson's job - but he is not being seen in nickel packages too much either.
Trevor Reilly did manage to get pressure on Geno but did not get the sack as the QB offloaded to RB Romar Morris.
From 1 on 1's - Brandon Shell initially stuffed Mauldin in one-on-ones but Mauldin with the mean rip to hit the cowbell - Freddie Bishop just flew right past Shell for easy ring of said cowbell.

    CB
The defense won the day and it wasn't even close. All four quarterbacks struggled to get into a rhythm and the receivers struggled to get open. Dee Milliner continued to play great, Buster Skrine had his best day of camp so far as he broke up numerous passes, most intended for Eric Decker, and rookie cornerback Juston Burris had his third interception of camp. This one while covering Marshall as Ryan Fitzpatrick put a little too much under his pass allowing Burris to easily undercut Marshall, make the easy pick and top it off with a nice 30-40 yard return.
Minor Negative - Marcus Williams beaten by Decker on a comeback route - C Nimbly says Williams being beaten a lot in camp.

Saw nothing on the Safeties posted

    Kickers
Folk missed from 50 & 60 yrds - UDFA Ross made both but missed from 38 - Bowles will favour the veteran here.
Edwards again continued to launch kicks into orit and have excellent hang times.

Tempers nearly flared when there was nearly a horse collar tackle of Powell by Mauldin.

Pretty much what I think. One thing is I don't think Jalin Marshall and Jeremy Ross will make the roster. It'll be one or the other.

    Good job.

I basically agree, but have a few changes.

    Offense
Bohannon doesn't make it (at least I hope he doesn't). I don't think we really need a FB. If he gets injured, there's no backup anyway. In his place, either Bernard Pierce, another WR or maybe Bostick sticks (I'm not sure he's PS eligible) or the Jets keep another D player.

Wesley Johnson doesn't make it and Shell takes his place.

    Defense

Reilly doesn't make it and Bishop or Taiwan Jones does.

    PS
It will be interesting to see what the Jets do with Harrison. They could keep him on the PS, but then again, if he hasn't shown much progress, they may cut bait with him. I doubt they'd risk Shell making it to the PS, but you could be right.

Day 6 was a good day based on all the reports - on both sides of the ball with almost everyone shrugging off the lethargy from the day before. The one good thing about full-pad practices... The big hits that has everyone going "ooooooo"

Jets waived DB Kendall James (a long shot to make the team in any event and who came to the Jets in January after entering the NFL as the Vikings' sixth-round pick in 2014 and spending time also with the Texans, Chargers, Browns and Lions.), who had been on PUP, with injury designation. They signed RB Terry Williams to replace him. Williams (5'8", 191), was nicknamed "T Max" at Kutztown University, comes to the Jets after getting an invitation to the Giants' rookie minicamp in May. He ran a 4.42-second 40-yard dash at his pro day in March. He's wearing No. 36 in green and white. As a senior he ran for 817 yards on 118 carries for 6.9 yards/carry and scored 14 total touchdowns and 13 rush TDs — fourth-most in a season in KU history but is a long shot here and the epitomises the phrase "camp body". They need RBs with Forte, Robinson and Pierce all off

Zach Sudfeld (knee), running back Bernard Pierce (hamstring) and cornerback Dexter McDougle (hand) didn’t practice - Ronald Martin (undisclosed) also sat out. Bowles said the absence of cornerback Darrelle Revis (wrist) and running back Matt Forte (hamstring) in practice was part of the planned schedule for both of them - will alternate days in and out of team drills for now.

    QB
Strong day for both Fitz & Smith - shocking day for Petty 0/7. Hack again fed off scraps with minimal reps.
Unofficially, Ryan Fitzpatrick was 15 of 22 today. Neither he nor any of the QBs threw a pick today. Mangold nicknamed the haircut - the tennis ball

Geno also had a high completion rate - went 9/11 with 1 being a drop and the other an overthrow - and again flashed showing he can make any throw in the book and he displayed his range on two particular throws – rolling out and delivering a strike to rookie Robby Anderson and then later standing back in the pocket and displaying his accuracy on a toss over the middle to TE Amaro

    RB
Williams and Morris have to go all out if they want a spot on the roster or practice squad. Williams and Morris are running exceptionally well, taking runs to the house and beating defenders on the outside. Both are also playing big parts in the passing game as well, getting behind blockers on screens and being a dump-off option for the quarterback. In the goal-line situation, Williams took two the house, one in which he trucked through rookie Darron Lee.
Powell had several nice plays including a 40 yard wheel route beating Harris for a TD.

    TE
Amaro continues to flash catching passes from both QBs for TDs - both Saxton (may have gotten nicked) and K Davis had TDs also and showed up.

    OL
Did not see any reports of any standing out. All starters back with exception of Breno (Qvale & Ijalana sharing his reps - no mention of Shell) - Winters beaten badly on a few goal line plays. Breno must be close to returning as he was sighted in the rehab area.

    WR
When the QBs shine so do the WRs - in particular B Marshall and Decker
    [IMG]
Others who flashed include Robby Anderson, Quincy Enunwa and Kenbrell Thompkins who were making solid catches to keep the chains moving while Jalin Marshall looked good early in punt returns.

    DL
McLendon looks good and was responsible for beating Winters and stuffing the RB (Williams) in the backfield
    http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/art...ack-Mode/cd5ec92b-56b0-48ac-be8a-4b0097a7984b

    LB
Minor negative as Lee got bulldozed in a goal line drill as Williams went through him. Westhoff however likes the speed of both Lee and Jenkins and the versatility that gives Bowles - and a great quote by Jenkins: "Some of the other clubs thought 82 others were better than me. That's a chip on my shoulder I have to keep playing with"

Not so much news on the CBs today as the positives were for the offence
Minor Negative - Marcus Williams beaten by Decker - which makes multiple reports now showing Williams being beaten a lot in camp.

Saw nothing on the Safeties posted bar Fitz hitting K Davis over Pryor.
