Stop making excuses for why he wasnt the starter. He wasnt going to be. He didnt look great in camp and quite frankly wasnt great during the season either. If youre healthy enough to participate, you are expected to perform, plain and simple.

They had to pay him because training camp was staring, they had no starting QB on the roster and none were available in free agency.

he had to play because your boy got knocked the fuck out. The fact that Geno Smith was "supposed" to start last year is not something of a compliment towards the guy. He was supposed to start but let the team down because of his actions. next time pay the $600.

Either way, what's there to cry about? If Fitzpatrick sucks and Geno Smith is way better, well then it will show in camp and the coaches will have to play the guy who's better. This simple 1 year deal with Fitzpatrick isn't a coronation.

I am a fan of the Jets and am now rooting for Fitzpatrick to have an amazing season.

But I him the same odds of leading us to the playoffs that a lot of the posters on here give to Geno improving.

Games should be more exciting and fun to watch which is awesome for me as a fan this season. But if we are couple of million short on a player signing next year I'll look back to this as the reason why and regret the short-sighted thinking.

Youre idiot interjection obviously missed the whole statement. Nothing worse than people on the board who jump in a conversation and dont read the whole thing. Fitzpatrick sucks get over it. There are not serviceable qbs on this roster and that includes "your boy".

I hope it is Breno Giacomini. What is minimum wage? $8.25 an hour? That would be fair.

How about the front office just feels Geno is an unknown in real games and they obviously feel like Fitz is a much safer option

It's much easier for fans like myself to say give the young guy a shot but coaches and GMs keep their jobs with decent or better seasons

Maybe they feel just like some of us do that Geno could improve, it's just not in their best interest to gamble and find out. Fitz is the safe floor of atleast 8 wins and it keeps everyone happy with Bowles and Macc if they're atleast competitive

Just my take on it...and he will prob backup here then be gone after the season...makes sense financially

I hope you are right, but our best shot at the future QB spot was picked by Denver after we chose to go for a ST player at best at #20.

Forget what the front office thinks of Geno. The biggest indictment of #7 was last season when not one teammate came to his defense after getting punched in the face. He is an immature loser who still has yet to prove he's anything more than incompetent.

+1000. Mac had to bring Fitz in. If he went with Geno and then he crapped the bed, Mac would be attacked and could potentially lose his job over not paying Fitz.

Yeah of course...A lot of jets fans out there just love to twist the knife when it comes to Geno for whatever reason

It's either he plays and they don't sign Fitzpatrick or everyone affiliated with the Jets thinks he's terrible

It's probably somewhere on the middle, like most things in life.

Coaches and GMs keep their jobs by winning.....an established team might be able to gamble on a young QB but if Geno blew up or got hurt they'd be in a world of shit with the New York media and fans

Agreed. Fitz is the safe option and buys the FO and CS another year of credibility. The problem is that we are just kicking the can down the road for another year and will be in this same position next year. At some point, we have to make a longer term commitment to a QB.

I believe they caught hell for that from the league tho. They got bitched at for pulling their starters against us before the playoffs.
