They have a lower opinion of petty by that logic. Hack was drafted after him. So what's that tell you?

One year deal! That's too long! We could have gotten him on a 5 game deal if we just waited a bit longer !

It tells me they aren't confident they have a long term QB starter on the roster.

I think it's more likely that they believe they can win now and that none of the QB's are ready to do so. That's an indictment on Geno that they don't believe he's good enough, because he's actually played, but not Hack or Petty who have zero experience and they simply aren't comfortable with an unknown at the position.

This deal makes no sense to me. It makes no sense to pay him much of anything because he's not good to begin with and he will either crap the bed or get injured playing the schedule this year. I can't believe they couldn't do just as well this year with the other 3, see what they can do at least and pray someone emerges or get someone in the draft next year and try again. I can't believe they offered him *more* to sign when he had no other offers.

Given that Geno is going into year 4 and Petty is going into year 2, I'd say that's probably more damning of what they think of Geno than what they think of Petty.

I dont, only based on the fact that i saw a coach reluctant to make changes with struggling players last season. No im not talking about qb either. Im talking other positions. Like CB or forcing ivory on the offense when he was clearly hurt. He believes in continuity thats for sure. If they were that high on petty, he woulda been taken higher.

Well I wasn't talking about how high they were on Petty, just showing the trail of facts that show how little they like Geno. Taking QB's in both drafts and bringing in Fitz not once but twice, and overpaying the second time the day camp starts, is a strong message about how little they trust Geno Smith.

Remember until the punch, Fitzpatrick was the backup and they made that very clear and thats how it played out in camp. So dont ever forget that. They didnt want Fitzpatrick to start at the start of the offseason.

Fitz was injured. He was recovering, of course Geno was gonna be anointed starter.

Fitz needed to be brought back... Simply because the locker room believes in him. Imagine a lockeroom if/when Geno would of had a bad game... They would have been calling for Fitz and it would of been a mess for Bowles.

He's got a show me deal for this year. I would of liked $10 mil with $5 mil in incentives but I'll take this deal and see if this group can make the playoffs and possibly a run at it.

Fitz couldn't even stand strongly and deliver throws. It's been documented. Yes Geno looked better but Fitz was 6 months removed from a broken leg.

But yes, Fitz was not being looked at as a starter until the punch. I agree. But it wasn't a duke it out QB comp last season.

Yea I'll never forget the time Geno was handed a starting job and pissed it away with his poor judgement and demonstration of lack of leadership. The CS/FO probably won't forget either.

Fitz still doesnt have an arm. Look it goes both ways dont act like Fitzpatrick was too crippled to perform. He wws healthy enough to be at camp and participate fully. Justblike dont act like Geno didnt make mistakes.

It amazes me how fans of one demonize the other then make excuses for their guy. Geno was better physically and didnt look worse mentally in camp. He was going to start the season. Im not saying he would have finished the season, but Ryan Fitzpatrick really isnt better. Thats why there are 4 qbs on this roster.

I said it before ill say it again. Douche and turd sandwich.

Geno supporters are the football equivalent of Bernie or Bust.

    Give up, your side lost.

I agree to an extent. Geno or Fitz will both result in no playoffs for the Jets this year. Bengals, Bills, Chiefs, Steeelers, Seahawks, Cardinals are our first 7 games. We are losing 4 of those with or without Fitz.

But I guess he gives us the best chance to win so we are going with it. I'd personally rather see what Geno has in his contract year. But the FO and locker room feel differently. At least the deal is decent. 22 other QBs are paid more in 2016.

Defense and excellent skills positions will keep us competitive. So thats what we have to look forward to.
