It was Geno's fault he got his jaw broken in a locker room by someone with anger issues over an insignificant (relatively speaking) amount of money?
People complaining about the money need to relax. It's a 1 year deal. The money comes right off the books after the season. Someone was getting that money, better it be a guy coming off a good year playing the most important position.
i cant believe this fans saying it's a terrible move. HOW on EARTH is it a terrible move? It's a 1 year deal, it will have zero impact on our cap going forward, and it's not like we needed that money to sign anyone. Plus, I'm sure a lot of it was signing bonus. If Woody wants to pay Fitz 12 mil let him? Why do you care? It doesn't hinder the team in any way. If anything we should be thanking Woody for doing what he needed to do, to get the job done before a single TC practice took place, and to give us the best possible chance to win? I have absolutely no issue with this move. It means no Geno. It means we get the guy who threw 31 tds back, and the guy who the locker room respects. It means we guarantee Hack (barring freak injures), a redshirt year. It means we have a QB on the roster who is capable of managing a game and winning more than he looses. Thank god this got done when it got done, rather than 2 weeks into camp. Mac really had a solid offseason, considering his cap restraints. I'm excited about the draft we had, we managed to shock the world and lock up Mo, and reigned in Fitz at the 11th hour.
But isn't this the case with at least half the NFL teams? The Colts of last year when Luck went down, the saints everytime Brees misses a game. So many of these pass happy QB centric teams go from a double digit win team to a below 500 instantly when their QB goes down. With that said, I do agree with you that dropping Geno right now would make about as much sense as not signing Fitz to a one year deal. Geno is still on a 2nd round rookie deal what sense would it make to cut your backup QB right before training camp.
Thats very true. Im sure if they cut Geno and fitzpatrick gets hurt, a coach or gm is on the hot seat. Looking beyond on the field. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
Not worth it to cut Geno right now, he's 2 years into the system and a far better option right now then Hack or Petty. Petty might not make it. Hack is the future.
Some fair points about backup QB except they spent draft picks on QB's the last two years. So unless they've already given up on one of them, which would be surprising, Geno seems to be the odd man out.
Exactly the reason for my disappointment with this agreement. In addition, we'll be looking for a LT next year or be having a hassle with Clady around the 10mm contract price.
True, but they haven't been raving about Petty anf they knew he was a project. He still hasnt learned to make reads. Iblike hack in the future but hes not ready now and i doubt they want a repeat of PSU. So it just doesn't make sense. I think Geno was in the plans regardless. Doesnt make sense to cut the only other QB on the roster with game experience. The Jets clearly are not in rebuild mode. They want to win. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
I think this is what the Geno supporters are missing. People keep eluding to how this signing reflects on the mood of how the front office feels about Geno, and people are probably thinking this is Mac and his staff. This has been dragging out for months and for a team to peruse a player this intently it's going to have to be approved by Bowles, Gailey, Mac and a whole lot of their staff that are in their ears telling them what they see at practice with Geno. Not to mention if you look at how hard the players have championed to get Fitz back. These are guys that have been with Geno practicing for months and haven't relented with trying to get Fitz signed. The only pro Jets people that believe in Geno are on this forum.
Anyone saying Petty is out is taking a very short sighted view of things. The guy was drafted as a known project. Not only did they draft him knowing that, they traded up for him knowing that. Hack AND Petty are the anticipated future 1/2 of this team. The Jets have given themselves a plan A and a plan B. It's smart business. Petty is going nowhere. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
IDF we will be back in the same spot with 3 million in cap space I wonder if we trade Sheldon (depending on his play/off the field issues) for a decent pick and save about 9 million ... we could always cut Revis but I doubt that would happen ... Breno would be option # 1 for a cut ... unless he steps up BIG time ... PS keeping Mo, Sheldon, and Williams will prob not be realistic unless Hack develops into a franchise QB and we could save money at that position for a few years.
I have no idea how you make that assumption, but i would disagree. I dont think the front office feels that strongly about either. Douche and turd sandwich? I always said they were going to sign a Vet QB. That said they may vey well carry 4 qbs. Leaving 2 unproven qbs on a roster would be dumb and mac doesnt appear to make dumb moves. So even if they cut geno, theyd sign another still leaving 4 qbs. That makes even less sense. Geno isnt eating cap space and should Fitz bomb, they will turn to him. I dont understand how everyone keeps coming to this conclusion that petty and hack are the sole backups, thats not happening. Geno will be here and if he were cut the would sign another. Not all his fault, but if he had brains he would have squashed that shit before it got to that point. It speaks volumes that his teammates didn't stand up for him then, and they don't stand up for him now. They all look happier than pigs in shit to have Fitz back right now.
