Win now and Fitzpatrick in the same sentence is whats throwing everyone off. Based on the last 11 years its a bit of an oxymoron

The FO has made it very clear how they really feel about Geno Smith. Don't be surprised if he's not on the roster week 1.

That just doesnt make sense. I think youre over estimating how much they like fitzpatrick. I long said that whether or not fitz came back, the team wouldnt go in with petty and hack as backups only. There was always going to be some veteran qb who got signed.

There's no way you hinge youre entire season on a career journeyman or a young qb who struggled, and two players with no pro starting experience. They already arent encouraged by pettys play yet, so i just dont see this happening.

Do you think they spend 12 million on Fitzpatrick if they have any confidence in Geno? Fitz just waltzed in at the start of camp and unseated a guy who has been there for all the off season activities.

They spent that because they had to. Not because they wanted to. Theyre not stupid, they dont see fitzpatrick as that great an option or he woulda signed months ago. Hes a stopgap who struggled mightily at times a good chunk of the season last year.

Regardless of how he plays, of hes injured who comes in after? Petty? Hack? Youre season over the second an injury hits the qb position. Thats too much of a risk. Whos a better alternative? No geno will be on the roster. It just makes sense. Theres no way you ride with fitzpatrick and two unknown qbs. Somebody will get fired for that. Thats how the jets ended up on this mess in the first place with rex ryan.

What teams season isn't over when an injury hits the starting QB position?

Maybe the FO has confidence in Geno as the back up, not the starter.

Well thats it, but you can't just leave Petty and hack as back ups. That ruins this season and the future of whoever gets thrown to the wolves.

I don't know, didn't a team win the Superbowl last year after their staring QB went down for about 6 weeks?

See Steelers 2004 season. New England went 11- 5 the year Brady tore his ACL ( and some how missed the playoffs)

I bet you were goin nuts when Fitz was barreling into the end zone with those crazy eyeballs. Is he the best QB in the league? Obviously not, but hes also not getting paid like one either, and has no security in a long term deal.

Name 1 free agent available right now thats worth the money that we had left.

I think they'll keep Geno. Fitz and Geno have one purpose: to protect Hack and Petty. The Jets have a brutal schedule this year and by all indications neither of the kids are ready. If Fitz sprains his ankle severely week 2, Geno will become the starter and some scrub vet will be signed off the street to backup Geno. They won't let the young guys see the field this season.

Next season will largely depend on their progress this year.

Hey look who finally caved in and ruined my YEAR OF THE GENO again.

It's all good. I support Fitzy too...it aint magic baby!!! I just really wanted to see Geno get his shot under this regime... it is what it is though..

    Just fucking win Jets.

PS -- I still only got us winning 6-9 games regardless though, this is why i really didn't mind experimenting with Geno one last time... and even when i thought jets would re-sign fitz right away.. i questioned if he could repeat last year.. Guess we'll find out.

Trust me, this is not a guy you want to get into a money or free agency conversation with. I spent a solid hour trying to explain to him how all of that worked last night and we got nowhere.

So did Fitz win the bidding war? Because he still got the contract that he wanted... the same one we declined a few weeks ago...

He had his shot, and got his jaw broken by a teammate over pennies. Guy has no brains, and you cant fix that.

He didn't get the contract he wanted. He wanted more guaranteed money in years two and three of the three-year deal. It eventually came out that "he would accept" a one year, $12 million deal.

So the team raised their offer by a few million dollars and Fitz sacrificed the security of a three-year deal. I don't really think anyone "won or lost" because both the team in the player got a fair deal.
