It was probably Mac's intent to try and stick with a low ball deal. I am sure this was a contingency plan. Sounds similar to the Mo deal, that last min signing.
Yea just looked at that myself. $4 mil isn't much and certainly not going to cause anything major to happen .
I'm just saying he should have atleast went a week or 2 in to training camp and stuck with the 9 mil.....to fold like that before TC is pathetic
Lol what? Mac set a deadline and was going to take the deal off the table. How exactly is this Mac giving in? I don't think it's any coincidence that this happened the same day a semi competent QB hit the market.
On cue too.....pathetic We will compete this season now....... and it's gonna be some good fun too. Good job Mac Daddy! Go Jets!!
Again, how is this giving in? The only 'giving in' is they don't get the cheapo #2 and #3 years, which was kind of an unrealistic ask anyway. He's getting the exact same salary this year he was getting in their three year offers. There's a difference between giving in and compromising. Giving in would have been acceding to all or most of his demands.
I think we are better off paying him a little more for a 1 year deal then having to lay out a multi-year deal when hopefully Hackenberg or Petty will be viable next year as franchise QBs of the future. Fitzpatrick is 33 years old. Clearly the best choice for us this year but just as clearly not the future.
I don't care about the one year deal just the way it went down is dumb If Macc was prepared to give him 12 he should have been signed a long time ago If he dragged it on this long, how weak is it to fold like that right before TC? Ugly man
Ryan Fitzpatrick just made the New York Jets his bitch. Jets caved, Fitz wins. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
6 weeks ago. Guess what. 6 weeks ago Mo's cap hit was $17 million and we didn't have our first round pick signed. Oh wait I don't follow the fuking news sorry.
I swear this place makes my blood boil sometimes . It's the only really good Jets discussion place but it's amazing how much drivel you have to read to have a decent discussion.
The point I'm trying to make is that he didn't even negotiate. It's not a deal-breaker hence he should have saved 500k towards the cap, IMO.
