I stopped reading after u disagreed with accuracy being the most important trait. Even in basketball. ..a player can have all the moves...height...leaping ability...but if he cant consistently put the ball in the hoop what good is he? Players score 20 points but it takes 50 shots...??? No good.
The worst thing anyone can do here is to start bringing politics into the football threads. Please don't, even as a joke.
Who gives a rat's ass if you stopped reading? LOL I said it is one of the most important traits. You're entitled to your opinion just as I am mine, but get over yourself. If you think I care if you stop reading my posts, you'd better think again. IMO if a QB can't read a D, more than likely, he will never see the field, so it won't matter how accurate his arm is. Even if he does see the field, he may never be able to complete many passes if he can't read blitzes and coverages.
I think both are equally important. Your accuracy is useless if you can't read a defense and your intelligence is useless if you're not accurate. I hope Hack gets his accuracy issues fixed.
Isn't every team in the NFL? This Poll is more from the 80's and 90's . Today's NFL model you can turnaround in 1-2 years.
A quarterback can be taught to read a defense a hell of a lot easier than it is to teach him how to throw the ball accurately. You can tell by around year 3-5 if they're ever going to be able to pickup an offense. That's what gives Hackenberg a huge leg up, but the accuracy concerns are a huge question mark. Hopefully with improved footwork and mechanics comes improved accuracy.
Why are people voting that our FO is inept? What have they done so far that gives you people that perception? These voters are probably our AFC rivals trying to stir confusion or hopelessness.
Exactly! Anyone who claims that Mac is inept is either a fan of another team, jaded and cynical beyond belief and can't believe that anyone the Jets have is good unless they win a Super Bowl, or knows nothing about the game.
They're probably just doing it to piss you off after you pissed them off by posting such a dopey poll.
In today's NFL, you have to "strike while the iron's hot". In the salary cap era, unless you have one of those rare, all-time-greats at QB (Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, etc), it's foolish to try to plan more than 1 or 2 years into the future. Things change so much year to year, there's so much unavoidable turnover. As Bowles himself has said, teams can't "rebuild" anymore, instead they "reload" from one year to the next. OUR WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY IS THIS YEAR, maybe not even next year, let alone 3-5 years down the road. Let's face it, Hackenburg is not a franchise QB, if we're lucky he'll develop into an average starter or backup...the chances of him ever becoming a true franchise QB are slim. We can't plan for that. We have a team ready to win RIGHT NOW, and potentially win big if we get our QB back under center. He's the team leader, the players trust him and believe in him, and they don't trust Geno. Mac has to get Fitz back in the fold whatever it takes... hopefully a fair deal but if we have to overpay, even severely overpay, then so be it, we don't know when a golden opportunity like this will come along again, it may never in our lifetimes! The future is anyone's guess...think about it, in your own life, how well have you been able to predict your own future, let alone a team's future with so many moving parts? Brandon Marshall may only have 1 big season left, same for Matt Forte .... Nick Mangold is at the end of the road, Revis too, .... if we don't do it this year, who knows when all the stars will be aligned again, this is our time, our window of opportunity, and again, we need to strike while the iron is hot!
Lets face it, the guy we just took in the 2nd round who hasn't even taken a snap in his first training camp obviously isn't a franchise QB. Brady had 2 Super Bowls by this point in his career.
^^^ Other Jets 2nd round QB picks in recent years: Browning Nagle, Kellen Clemens, Geno Smith Jets 1st round QB picks: Chad Pennington, Mark Sanchez. ...but you think we can PLAN on Hackenburg being a franchise QB for us just because we picked him in the 2nd round?!
previous results do not guarantee future outcomes. now, odds are hack won't be a franchise qb. not down on him but there are few and the road is littered with wasted pick qbs, however stating as it is a fact that he won't be before he has even had a training camp and using past qb picks(from previous regimes even) as proof is a terrible argument.
No, we can't plan on it. But "let's face it, Hackenberg isn't a franchise QB" is a ridiculous sentence before he's ever taken the field. If you'd said "odds are against" or "we can't count on" him becoming a franchise QB, that's more reasonable. But counting out the possibility before he's ever done anything is unfair to him and to the people that drafted him. It's part of the reason that we keep running QBs out of town after 2 years; our fanbase holds past failures against people who had nothing to do with them. Mike Maccagnan and Christian Hackenberg have nothing to do with the fact that the franchise has gone so long without a dependable quarterback.
