Hey...I wouldn't know about all that.

Jell-O hasn't gotten a dollar from me since Bill Cosby came out of the closet.

Bill Cosby did some beyond horrific things to sixty women and over. However, but coming out of the closet is too strong a word.

Who gets to decide if he overpays? You?

And when? When the deal is done? After the first season? At the end of the contract?

Maybe he's just trying to keep the pitch count down.

First off - OVERPAYING for anyone at any position for any amount of time is not a smart practice and should be avoided like the plague.

The Fitz nuthggers love to discount the entirety of his career and point out that he does well under Chan Gailey, but fail to consider that perhaps Chan Gailey just may be the right OC for Geno.
I am not a Genobot, I was hoping they didn't draft him, I really do not know what he may or may not become, but I really would like to see what he could do with Chan.

In my opinion, last season was a missed opportunity. We won 10 games, big fucking deal. Did we make the playoffs? Instead we are left with the still unanswered questions about Geno, we had at the start of last season. To what extent is the lack of success due to shitty WR's, shitty coaching, and shitty play calling and what extent is just lack of NFL caliber QB skills?

Fitz plays with a garbage team, "well, he had no chance of success early he was playing with garbage". Geno plays with garbage and a garbage coaching staff, "this guy has no chance at success in the NFL"
Except the flaw in this is Fitz his entire career has played with better WR's and better coaching than Geno had for 2 seasons.

Big difference here, as Ive posted about 100 times is not pure physical ability. Geno is younger and stronger has better arm strength and wins there hands down

IQ, leadership, football skills is what a Vet like RF brings to the table. Most of TGG discount this stuff but the smart GMs and Coaches bank on this. Plus the Jets are a better fit for Fitz at this point in his jag career

When you are lucky enough and have skill and intelligence you get a Luck, Brees, Brady Rogers etc

I don't care if you have Amos Alonzo Stagg , Paul Brown or Parcells out there if for 2 or 3 Seasons you still cant remember down and distance, knowing to run forward and not backwards, missing your receivers, forgetting the time to leave and board a plane etc

I agree on the leadership aspect, but leadership can grow and be earned.

Except where we differ is, I do not believe Fitz has a good football IQ as evidence throughout his career of making horrible decisions and throws.

Just give him a hard date, don't offer more than what we've already over-offered him, and if he doesn't sign before training camp starts, never offer him a cent again and let him sit on his greedy ass on the couch for the rest of his life.

That's actually funny, does he think that will force the Jets into a move they don't want to make? Now if he SOLD his 3 million dollar mansion (assuming he had one), that might make them blink.

Ryan Fitzpatrick’s 3 unhelpful words as Jets’ stalemate drags

STATELINE, Nev. — Only the autograph seekers and playing partners provoked conversation from Jets unsigned quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick on the golf course Wednesday during a practice round for the American Century Championship.

Embroiled in a contract stalemate with the Jets throughout the offseason, Fitzpatrick also declined to comment before teeing off in the Harrah’s Celebrity-Amateur Tournament.

“Not right now,” he said before walking to the first tee with his brother and caddie, Shaun Fitzpatrick.

The Jets reportedly have offered the 33-year-old Fitzpatrick a three-year deal worth $24 million, including $15 million guaranteed.

CBS Sports NFL analyst Trent Green and NFL analyst and ex-Jets coach Herm Edwards, however, said they anticipate the Jets and Fitzpatrick will come to terms.

“It will get solved,” Edwards said. “He will be a Jet. He’s the guy who [almost] took them to the playoffs. That’s their quarterback.

“Geno Smith is going to get a lot of reps, but I think if my team won 10 games with [Fitzpatrick] at the helm last year, then they’ll find a way to get it done.”

Green, who played 15 years under center in the NFL, confided Fitzpatrick is spending most of his idle time playing golf.

“He seemed to be in a really good place mentally,” Green said. “He’s excited about his golf game. He’s had a bit more of an opportunity to play golf than what he had hoped for.”

Green said the two didn’t discuss Fitzpatrick’s contract situation, but he said he believes the two sides will reach an agreement.

“I think it eventually gets done,” Green said. “I think the team likes him. He likes the team. He likes the guys. He likes the offense.

“I understand the business part of it because I’ve been through it for years, so I know that there has to be a common ground that they eventually meet on.”

Green said he also believes the Jets will want to continue the offensive cohesiveness that was established last season.

“I covered the Jets quite a few times last year and had a chance to talk to him and the team, and I just know the relationship from an offensive standpoint, that he fits so well in what they are trying to do and has such a good understanding of it.”

With a deal unresolved a week before the opening of training camp, Fitzpatrick wasn’t waiting for a call in his for-rent New Jersey home Wednesday morning. Instead, the 11-year NFL veteran was more than 2,700 miles away, preparing for the 54-hole tournament at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

Tournament spokesman Phil Weidinger met with Fitzpatrick early Wednesday to inform him he had numerous media requests for the week, and Fitzpatrick indicated he did not want to conduct any interviews.

As he prepared for his practice round, Fitzpatrick talked openly on the driving range with Edwards and former Blue Jays’ power-hitter Joe Carter.

“He’s excited to be here, and that’s all we talked about,” Edwards said.

Between the ropes, Fitzpatrick freely signed autographs for young children and teenagers. Before walking onto the third green, Fitzpatrick gave high-fives to some young men wearing his No. 14 Jets jersey, then penned his name on their green and white jerseys.

Even though his play was erratic, he joked with his amateur playing partners and congratulated them on their good shots. When a player in his group pointed to the nearby tree that he hit on the par-3 seventh hole a year ago and said, “Impossible, huh?” Fitzpatrick responded, “Impossible to hit it two years in a row.”

When the errant tee shot nearly hit a spectator just left of the green, it prompted another response from the free agent.

“I thought he saw it, but I guess not,” Fitzpatrick said while placing his hands above his eyes like binoculars.

Fitzpatrick was among 83 celebrities from sports, entertainment, politics and the military entered in the tournament that begins Friday.

I agree that wishing for injury on someone is extreme, and not just "pretty" extreme. As I said, I'm not there yet, and hope things don't get to that point. I'm just tired of the whole thing, and at this point, I don't want Fitz back as a Jet. If the Jets cave and he does come back at too high a salary, I will have a very difficult time rooting for him to play well. He's no longer a likeable "underdog." At this point I think he deserves for karma to put a king-sized foot up his ass.

Hopefully it gets done soon. Nobody is at fault here, IMO (at least as far as reports go).

Fitz is not under contract, he owes the Jets nothing. People need to stop saying he is holding out, he isn't. He is trying to get paid as much as possible. I do not fault him for that, at all. No one should, honestly, we would all do the same.

Jets are trying to get their guy at the price that works for them. From their perspective, they do not want to pay more than what they feel Fitz value is. There is nothing wrong with that. While, Fitz is unquestionably the best option for the Jets in a vacuum, he is not irreplacable especially when factoring in salary cap implications.

At the end of the day, one side (hopefully Fitz) will most likely cave. As someone who thinks starting Geno is basically a death sentance for the season, I'm hoping both sides come to an agreement.

I don't want him back for other reasons....I don't really care that it's dragged on this long and him not signing has given the young QBs more reps.

If he comes back I will root for him and the team just as hard....but they better make the playoffs at minimum or it will have been a complete disaster to bring him back IMO. It would be a waste of 10m+ on next year's salary cap plus it wouldn't give us any answers on Geno....Even if it became clear Geno wasn't the answer we could have had Petty (or Hack) get some games under his belt. Plus we would have more cap room, a better draft pick, and a more clear vision on the QB position going forward

Bringing back Fitz and not making the playoffs would be horrible....8 or 9 or 10 wins and no playoffs with Fitz being Fitz does nothing for the Jets....would be typical though

I can't agree with you more. Fitz is a dead end. The Jets are going absolutely nowhere with him. He had tremendous receivers last year, an easy schedule and he was incredibly lucky he didn't throw twice as many interceptions as he did given how much he throws into double and triple coverage. Given the defenses the Jets will face this year, Fitz will not have a good year with the jets. His inability to throw the deep pass with some sembelence of accuracy will permit good defenses to clog the short throwing lanes (which is what the bills did to him last year) and that will doom the jets offense.

I would like to see what Geno will do with this personnel. I am not a Genobot and freely admit he may be a disaster. I just don't see a point to having Fitz around. Give Geno the keys until he shows he can't handle them. In case he can't', sign a veteran backup QB (maybe from camp cuts) and move on. Let Fitz be a cautionary tale for anyone else thinking of doing this with the Jets.

I would like to think the Jets have already made the decision to pull the offer if he actually becomes willing to sign it and haven't done so because of the risk of injury to someone in camp. I guess time will tell.

EXACTLY....You can prefer to see what Geno can do and think Fitz is a "dead end". Doesn't make you a Genobot lol...that's what some of these guys don't get

Fitz has no leverage. I'm surprised Mac hasn't lowered the offer yet. His options are to retire & earn nothing, play for another team and earn less likely without a chance to showcase himself for a raise or resign with the Jets.

Based on what I believe I've heard on the radio, Fitz would take the $12mil on a 1 year deal, whereas the Jets want him at a lower cap number, hence the $24mil over 3, with $12 in the first year. Ultimately, if Fitz wants to gamble on himself thing next year's FA may be more lucrative, he'll take a 1 year deal at a lower number ($8-$10mil). Given his history of play & our rough, he's likely better off taking the 3 year deal. A slow start (2-4) against a brutal first 6 games could get him benched, and cost him a lot of money.

There's no point in lowering the offer because even if he ends up signing it then youre just stuck with a pissed off angry player being a cancer in your locker room. Thus isn't like buying a car because here you have to continue to deal with a pissed off player for the term of the contract. They should just pull the offer and move on.

Can any Geno Smith fans please inform me as to why they would prefer to go with him over Fitzpatrick for next season. I am genuinely curious. In a vacuum, I dont see one positive to Geno over Fitz, except that he can throw it further. This is not an attempt to bait any fans or anything like that.

Has Geno showed anything that would lead us to believe he will be a quality starter? I understand he is young, and players can improve, but have we seen anything to make us hopeful Geno will?

He has had two terrible years. Averaging a TD% of 3.2 and an INT% of 4.1, both awful. Granted he never had a great supporting cast, but he made some bone headed plays that have nothing to do with a lack of playmakers. Essentially, what I am wondering is, why do people think Geno will suddenly turn it around and improve? His stats could improve, but I dont see his IQ improving.

Also just quickly skimming the stats, Fitzpatrick's TD and INT %'s have actually improved his last few years versus his first few. If anything, he could continue to improve with familiarity with his playmakers and improvement to his OL/RB's. He doesnt really rely on his athleticism, although he can run.

If Geno is named the starter, I will hop on the bandwagon and be is biggest fan, and Fitz will be dead to me. I am not a "hater" nor am I a "bot" (whatever that is). I support the front of the jersey and only the front of the jersey.

I don't mean to sound like a dick when I say this, but if you actually want to see the arguments from that perspective they're littered throughout the last 237 pages.
