Exactly!!! Why lease if you're staying in the area, family likes it and now you can afford to buy?! Buy vs. lease.... It's a simple math really, especially for a Harvard grad
https://www.instagram.com/p/BIFuuP5gUX1/ Kenbrell Thompkins, Quincy Enunwa, Jace Amaro and Jalin Marshall are publicly embracing Geno. Marshall, Decker and Forte are still touting Fitz. Seems like a pretty firm case of young guys vs veterans.
Totally ignorant post. The Jets made Fitz a very fair offer. Fitz is just being a greedy SOB and I hope he never plays another down in the NFL. Mac would have to be stupid to overpay a mediocre JAG QB. Thank God he's the GM and not you. Regarding "Mevi$" you obviously have a very short memory of how awful the Jets' secondary was in 2014. Mac had no idea if he'd be able to sign any other FAs, but he knew Revis wanted to come back to the Jets and knew that Revis was still one of the best CBs in the NFL. He also knew that Bowles' D needs a shut down corner to be effective. Re-signing Revis was the smart move regardless of whether you can see it or not. Waiting too long to sign Mo. ROFLMAO You are totally clueless. Quit talking out of your ass. You have no idea whether it would have cost less to sign Mo last year or not. Numerous sources have said that Mo wanted $60-$70 million in guaranteed money. There's no way that Mac could have justified paying that or $17 million per season last year, and there's no evidence to suggest that Mo would have signed for less last year.
Fitz is not worth $15 million for this season. I'd rather see the Jets go 0-16 than see them overpay that SOB. His arm is only going to get weaker and his reaction and movement times get slower. The decline has already started. He's not even worth $12 million, much less $15 million.
It seems like he either wants a kings ransom compared to his value for this season or a 3 year deal with guaranteed money. Not gonna happen. This guy must be willing to walk away from the game at this point. I would think a Harvard guy would understand that if no team wants to sign him at the money he wants then the market is not willing to pay him that much and therefore he is not "worth" what he is asking. Everything else leaked from the Fitz camp is just silly posturing like he is going to take less money to play backup for a team or play with the Pats, etc. He has no leverage except for the fact that the fans and media want the Jets to overpay for him because we haven't seen good QB play pretty much for most of franchises history.
Marshall, Decker and Forte will catch the ball from whoever happens to throw it. Same goes for Amaro, Enunwa, etc. I'd be more concerned with bad attitudes of O-Linemen.
He's not looking for a kings ransom, as he's already said he's completely fine with 12M in 2016. He doesn't like being locked into 6M per year for 2017 and 2018 tho. If you feel you would still be the starter those years, you wouldn't want to lock into backup money either. The key to this negotiation is working something out for those years which makes sense for all sides. Maybe adding in some potential incentives would work.. It doesn't seem like an unreasonable situation to me.
These guys are all professionals and Bowles is a no-nonsense guy who will expect everyone to go to work regardless of the situation....He will bench anyone in a heartbeat if not. I wouldn't be concerned who the QB is, the defense will still be balling out and the offensive guys are a nice mix of hungry young guys and vets that will lead regardless of situation
I'm not going to knock Fitz for holding out....that's his choice that he's free to make. Maybe he has a ton of money and only feel like it's worth it if he gets a certain amount at this point, who knows It's clear, however, that what he views himself as is much higher than what any other team in the league views him as. Anyone still a free agent at this point I would say that about
it's a lot of money, but it's all relative. the QB market is outrageously high. every other starting veteran QB makes waaaaaaay more than that. he'd be the lowest paid vet even at 12.
And rightfully so...anyone getting paid higher than him is either a much better player or is in a similar class with actual potential I would say Fitz is much closer to Brian Hoyer who got like $2 million, starter or not they are similar level QBs
Can't the Jets afford to overpay for Fitz now that the Wilkerson deal cleared cap room? What if we front load a 2 year deal, maybe 13 or 14 million this year and then 6 or 7 the following year (or cut him after the season). It's not like we are going to make another big signing before Week 1 so now that we have the cap room we can throw more cash at Fitz. Might as well use the money we can spend and not worry about it affecting the cap in the future.
If you wanna go with "vet" angle as in "he'd be the lowest paid vet" than there are plenty of vets making 2-3M If you wanna go with "starter" angle, then why stop at 12?! You should advocate Fitz getting real starter's money, 18 minimum, I'd say. The thing is that you well damn know that Fitz is not your typical starter. He is a stop-gap backup who likely won't be starting next year and it's not exactly a foregone conclusion that he's 10M better than what's on Jets roster. Shit, you can't even be sure if he would be starter for this whole year!! Are you gonna tell me that 12M is unfair price for a backup who might only give you 8 games in 2016? and 6M is unfair for a backup QB in 2017 and 2018??? Give me a fucking break.... And please don't start with "best chance to win" and "all-time Jets record" and the rest of this shit. Just because Jets sucked for 30 years at getting a decent QB, doesn't make Fitz worth more $$. The price is more than fair. There is a good argument that it's actually should be lower.
