Fitz's sack total was 19 last year. While that was the lowest of his career, he took 21 sacks each in 2013 and 2014. Geno took 28 sacks in 2014. When you look at it that way, half a sack per game seems like a lot. And I don't think the line was necessarily better. Carpenter was an upgrade at LG, but Brick really regressed at LT and Mangold kept getting banged up.
29th in Comp%, 27th in Y/A, T5th in INTs, and 24th in passer rating. Way to cherry pick BTW. Can you tell me where Fitz ranked in DYAR, Total QBR, Sacks, Passing Yards, TDs, TD%, INT%, Red Zone INTs, and Red Zone Efficiency?
While I want Fitz back, I will get annoyed if he isn't back by the start of TC. At that point, I would start looking into other options like Kaep or Foles and be willing to pull the trigger if I got an offer I liked. And if he isn't back by Week 1 of the preseason, I would pull the offer.
For about two more weeks in the dead of the summer when no football is being played. But hey, it's something.
I would like to see Jets/Fitz work on the 2nd year of "proposed deal" to give both parties the incentive for Fitz and Jets to have a good 2016 season, because I believe there is a strong possibility that Geno is gone in 2017 and Hack/Petty readiness to take over isn't guaranteed, so if Fitz performs similar to 2015 season, so offer him incentives that keep him in fold for possibly more than just a stop-gap!
Either way backup or possible starter Geno is still part of the plan...That's what my only point was if you read the exchange again
We've already went over this ..There's only a handful of starting QBs you would actually take Fitz over ....He's a below average QB in the NFL for a starter just by that measure. No need to pick at this stat or that stat
Wow up to 231 pages! lol. I don't think I've seen this mentioned in any article or any post on this board (but I'd be lying if I said I read every post in this 231 page thread) but why wouldn't Fitz just sign the current deal, collect his $12 million on year 1 (like he wants) then just hold out after the season if he has a good year? Then the pressure is back on the Jets because he would have posted two consecutive good seasons, possibly have gotten the Jets into the playoffs, and given the fan base / players reason to pressure the FO on redoing his deal? Or THEN he can really threaten retirement or force a trade after having collected his $12 million. Or if the Jets wanted to go young at that point, trade him to a team willing to redo his deal. Am I completely missing something that makes this scenario unlikely/impossible? I'm not saying its the best scenario for the Jets or that this is what I want to see but trying to see why this wouldn't be an option for Fitz.
LOL @ Fitz holding out. I get what you're saying but just the thought of him holding out is laughable. A journeyman in his last few seasons... I can't remember such a low quality QB in this kind of situation to be honest.....not to knock Fitz but it's a very odd situation
DWC specifically asked for Fitz's rankings in 4 particular stats, which he cherry picked. I know Fitz is entirely mediocre.
What an idiot! That's not a quote from Gailey. Learn to read. And once you learn to read, spend your time reading some legitimate commentary rather than garbage from some guy who sits in his grandmother's basement twenty hours a day making believe he's a real sportswriter.
In Las Vegas that's called "betting on the come." You have nothing, but keep throwing chips on the table hoping to draw a few aces. They love guys like you out there. You keep trying to tell us what Fitzpatrick can't do but never acknowledge that all three of the other guys together have done even less.
Good for you Raleshitbird you go ahead and capitalize on my mistake on not actually reading the article and overreacting. The butthurt in your response is amazing, I appreciate the fact that I got you this mad from the earlier debates. Now. back to your Willy Wonka reality you go, no one values your opinion here.
We can acknowledge all day long that two raw rookies who are not even expected to be ready, never mind start for two more years and a guy that did not even play last year have done less so we are in a major pickle. But to acknowledge that a journeyman that no one even considers as a back up should attract that KIND of cash JUST TO BARELY KEEP US AFFLOAT is laughable. If Foles is let go I'll take him in a second and screw the greedy bastard.
Is this argument still going? Just carry the money over and use it next year when we will have a ton more to add to it. Or pay him what he's worth which is about 7m and that is almost a 2m raise over last year. He can't throw downfield and he can]t beat buffalo in two tries. 5 picks in two games against them and people here are still begging we re-sign him for a fortune.
It was my understanding that Fitz's camp was the side floating the 1 year/$12 million, and that the Jets were seeking a 3 year deal to spread the cash out. I'm not sure if that has changed now that Mo has signed, but I think Fitz would gladly play under that deal.
The gospel truth. Blinded by years of major incompetence, Fitz has a winning season curtesy of a much better RB and WR group and some Jet fans think he is the near term savior so open up the purse strings....yet same fans rode a rookie QB out of town after two playoff appearances under an incompetent CS and a weak WR corps. Once and for all we need a real QB on this team, not this conglomerate of rookies and mediocracy.
Agreed. I just think Fitz knows that... 1. He's coming off a good season in which the team won 10 games. 2. The fanbase isn't high on Geno Smith and the idea of starting a first time QB isn't enticing right now. 3. The team has a lot of money invested in Free Agents (Decker, Marshall, Revis) and is kind of built to win now. 4. Without a competent QB it all means nothing. I agree, you don't usually see guys of Fitz's caliber holding out after being offered a fair deal. It's a very weird situation.
Training camp starts in 11 days, right? I could be wrong. I thought it was July 30th. If Fitzpatrick is not signed within the next 11 days, than it is time to move on. Cant have the starting QB unsigned for TC. I dont care that he missed all the other stuff, he doesnt need it. Once he signs, he's more than likely the unquestioned starting QB. Thats all fine with me, just be ready to play come training camp.
