It won't be that hard for one of these guys to be better than Fitz...He's done absolutely zero in this league in how many years starting now? I'm not interested in treading water at the QB position with a below average veteran that we have to pay extra for, I'm sorry.

I'd rather see what Geno can do in the same situation and sign Foles or McCown on the cheap as insurance if Petty isn't ready. Only one way to find out who would be the better player...you and I both have no clue. My belief is that Fitz isn't good enough to make a deep playoff run anyway so what's the point? If you think Fitz can do that well then all the power to you

I was responding to TDK when he said the Jets have clearly moved on from Geno...Makes zero sense when Geno is the starter right now and backup at worst if Fitz signs

Fitz will be back. Mac is just dueling with J Sexton the Agent till some deadline approaches like last Friday for Mo. Phil Simms held out to the end of Pre Season as I recall. But Fitz will be ready Week One

TGG wants to see some Geno improvement in 2016. What about Fitz? With the players around him he could get better too, The learning curve with Fitz is way above average

I cant believe the stupid comments here. Fitz just gets no respect for what he accomplished. SMH 6 dozen times

Both he and his wife have degrees from Harvard so if football ends for him those five kids will be fine

Who the hell gets respect for not making the playoffs with a cake shit schedule?

Who is going to respect his unreasonable contract demands?

Who is going to respect his standoff with the front office?

Fitz will not get better.. he's the same fitz he's always been, just better weapons around to disguise it. I never ever saw fitz as a guy that can miss a whole summer, pre-season... pick up a ball week 1 and ball out. Hell no. Todd Bowles doesn't even let his guys that missed practice play in the game like that... why would he let Fitz be his starting QB after missing an entire offseason?????

    In Gailey I trust.

    http://presnapreads.com/2016/03/28/chan-gailey-new-york-jets-dont-need-ryan-fitzpatrick/

"If you’re relying on Fitzpatrick’s touchdown-to-interception ratio to sell him as a quality starting quarterback, you need to understand the context surrounding those numbers. Fitzpatrick wasn’t elevating his teammates with precise throws where he was able to exploit the defense because of his intellect, he was just another piece in an offense that wasn’t especially reliant on him. A turnover-prone, weak-armed quarterback who has major accuracy issues should never command big money, but especially not in an offense such as Gailey’s with the surrounding talent the Jets have given him."

I should clarify I meant as far as transferring to the NFL level. His skills did not look like they would transfer well and clearly have not. Cool if you support Geno, but no need to make yourself look bad. You know what I meant and know it is true.

I think the real issue holding the Jets and Fitzpatrick apart is the 2nd and 3rd year of that contract. What the Jets may have to do is just negotiate with him on a year to year basis and not ask for that 2nd and 3rd option in the contract. There is plenty of time to get the Fitz deal done, but at times you have to question his love for the game at this point, does he still want to play? If he wants to play, he will absolutely cave and accept the deal.

Why would he want to effectively end his NFL career? Well you pretty much listed the reason. Family and kids can have one hell of an influence.

Could turn out that way, but seems like we won't know for sure until Geno takes that first snap in the Bengals game. Seems if Fitz gets crossed off the list, Geno's hold on the starters spot will only last until MacCagnana brings in a new 'vet'. Geno's in a tough spot....

I don't know that to be true at all....Maybe a longer transition was and is needed for Geno to make it in the NFL but there's a reason he was a high draft pick and pretty much was always thought of as one.

As far as drafting other QBs..it's called stock piling talent until you find your future. It doesn't mean Geno or now Petty will never be the Jets QB, it's that Mac and Bowles just don't know for sure who will step up and be the man. If Geno was that terrible and clearly not part of the Jets' plan as you say he would have been cut a long time ago. He would not be the starter- possibly backup right now...doesn't make sense.

Gailey AGAIN with another quote against starting Fitzpatrick. Gailey dropping the bombs, he must really want Geno out there, he has supported him since day 1.

True... It's gonna get worse... TBH i don't see Geno having a good coming out party this year.. mainly due to the elite defenses we are playing coming out to start the year. I don't think Fitz would do that well vs that first 6-7 games either. in fact, i think even top 10 QB's would start their year slow with that schedule... so i'm going to try and be patient with Geno through this process.. i'm expecting him to start slow and kick up.. question is how long is his leash? will he get the chance to "kick up" if he starts slow?

However... if geno can mange to pull us to like 3-3 or better over that stretch.... i think we'll be looking at the playoffs...finally.

Unless Fitz retires, his deal is going to get done - it's just a question of structuring it as a 1-3 year deal for cap purposes.

I think we were incredibly lucky to only lose Fitz for a game last year because of the way Fitz plays and his injury history. I still believe that Geno will be an important contributor this year.

Year of the tanking for Number 1 overall pick, which will still be on the defensive side of the ball.

Fitz doesn't slide enough but he gets the ball out quickly so his injury risk isn't horrible. And he's only been hurt badly once in his career, the broken leg with Houston. He isn't ironman Eli but he isn't Bradford either.

We wouldn't get the #1 pick even if Geno started and crashed and burned. That's what happened in 2014 with a way worse roster, lame duck coaching staff and a similar schedule and we still didn't even pick in the top 5.

It can be proven beyond all doubts that he won some games. And to add to that, he never lost a playoff game. Hence Proven Winner!

I hate having to be on the anti-Fitz team because he's pretty much good at everything except actually playing quarterback

He's just not the QB if you are serious about winning...He never was in this league and never will be.

I know some people will laugh and say well you think Geno is?!?! I don't think so but it costs nothing to give him a shot...you have to pay a premium for the "right" to have Fitz be Fitz
