Come on, pay attention. Random indiscriminate retaliatory violence is a totally acceptable response to random indiscriminate violence.
No good ones. Killing people as a means to stop violence isn't going to get it done. I think of the American Jewish community as fairly instructive. Generally very accomplished, well assimilated, very successful in the face of pretty widespread prejudice. That's the model normal Muslims are going to need to replicate, as ironic as that sounds. I won't pretend to explain how the Jews do it, but I'm fairly certain that you don't want to do things that result in getting stigmatized within that community. You do something that makes us look bad, we'll make sure you'll regret it. Just my thoughts. I don't think we're punching our way out of terrorism.
It worked in World War II. Apples & oranges I suppose, and it would certainly lead to widespread terrorism here with the cells that are within the country. I'm just at a loss for what to do. Does France really want to send troops into a guerilla warfare style area? Of course not, but outside of bombing select areas of the Middle East that seems to be the only option they have. Three terrorist attacks in 18 months in the US of that magnitude and you bet your ass we'd be sending air raids all over those countries, especially since we don't want another Iraq war disaster that'll cripple our economy yet again. As I said, I'm unsure of what to do. But France most definitely needs to make a move which inevitably pulls us right back into it. It should be noted that this is pretty much a no win situation for any of the nation's involved and sucks.
Interesting sentiment. Our brilliant Commander in Chief way back in 2004 may have destroyed any immediate hope of that happening by unseating Sadam Hussein and ramming democracy down Iraq's throats at the cost of tons of American troops lives. And years later, after relatively calmness in the realm of terrorism for a while from al-Qaeda, ISIS spawns and there is widespread terrorism throughout the world at their hands. Thanks Bush.
I guess maybe a part of it is that we need to stop creating monsters to combat what ever we need out of our way. Every once in a while our monster breaks it's chains and runs loose
To take it a step further, we could do a much better job of just minding our own fucking business. There's a time and a place for us to intervene, but our foreign policy has been hyper aggressive in intervening where it's not really necessary. Time to back the fuck off and let the fire die down instead of continuing to piss gasoline all over it.
Our foreign policy is tied directly to lobbyists and corporate interests, the narrative that we're trying to be world police is a fallacy, our government only intervenes in conflicts that benefit someone financially.
That's true, but regardless of the what narrative there is about it, we still have a habit of sticking our noses in everybody's business because of those corporate interests. And of course then lying to the American public about what we're really doing in this country or that country. Such honorable folks we live under. Still the best place in the world to live I would imagine.
How do you back the fuck off foreign interests when you are obligated to interfere with them to protect your presidential legacy?
The man who drove a truck into a crowd in Nice, France, killing 84 people, plotted his July 14 attack for months with "support and accomplices," a French prosecutor said. Authorities are investigating five suspects who are in custody for their alleged roles in helping the attacker, Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel. One suspect allegedly sent Bouhlel a Facebook message saying, "Load the truck with tons of iron and cut the brakes."
