Hey Brook, A friend of a friend seems to be stuck on an island somewhere holds dual citizenship, what are they saying to Americans who want GTFO?
The last time I replied to Brook I think I said "Be careful out there." It was probably about something benign, or even foolish but we really mean it, even if it looks like the situation is stabilizing. Most reports seem to blame this on a minor cadre of mid-level military but some, including Erdogan, point to Gulen in Pennsylvania even though most claim his influence is too limited. Now reports claim there are a dozen or more generals and colonels under arrest so it may be higher than mid level. 750 troops have been arrested but video shows many abandoning equipment on a bridge and apparently eagerly surrendering to police who are treating them well. It's really tough to figure out from here and with the way things are reported the will of the people, if there even is a general will of the people, is not being heard. There appears to be more significant fighting in Ankara than Istanbul, possibly still ongoing.
Thanks all. What a night. We couldn't sleep all night. The situation is now under government control. Turkish Army doesn't have any nuclear weapons. If they did, they would have used on Kurds already. Kurdish leaders declared against the coup. Roads are now open. Bridges are open. Head of Navy is still in the hands of Junta. Head of Air Force is in the hands of Junta. But the Army Chief has been captured this morning by Turkish police special forces. I am heading to where family lives now but traffic is a mess. Thanks for all the prayers. You guys are the best.
Barry. I was right next to Fenerbahce stadium when coup started. We took shelter in the parking lot of the stadium. I am a Fenerbahce fan now. Just kidding. Don't worry the airport is now under government control. Flights will resume 2 pm local time. Thing should get back to normal in a few days. PS: 8 members of junta escaped to Greece in a military chopper.
I'm glad to hear that Brook is safe. However, this is a disaster for Turkey and the World. Erdogan supporters will use this as an excuse to purge the military the same way that Stalin did in the 1930's and the Ayatollah did in Iran. Turkey will become another Islamic Fundamentalist dictatorship just like Iran.

Thanks guys. Currently only 20 miles from Greece border. I am with my wife and kids. Being an American isn't popular here in Turkey now. US Base Incirlik is in lockdown by Turkish government. Turkish dictator is cursing USA for not returning his rival Gulen. John Kerry said USA never received a formal request from Turkey for Gulen but Erdogan is lying to people thru his teeth. Country is going bonkers. Army generals are detained. 2 judges of the Turkish Supreme Court are detained. Law is on hold. People cut the head of one of the soldiers of junta. Fuck Turkey and fuck dictator Erdogan. FAA has issued a travel ban between USA and Turkey. As soon as there is a plane out here, we are out of here. Thanks again for all the support.
