Good for Mo and the team. $54M guaranteed over 3 years and $37M guaranteed through Year 2. He deserves it as he's been a great Jet. Win-win.
Richardson can still get paid with the Jets no doubt, cross that bridge when you get there. See where the cap is and evaluate from there
How do you figure?wilkerson was due to make $15 mill this year, he just got $37 mill over the next 2 seasons. Math tells me he will be making more this season If I am wrong about this, cool, but I don't think this improves any chances of signing Fitzpatrick
If it's structured to have more in the bonus and less in the cap number it could allow for more space.
A lot has to do with the player I'm sure. I'm perplexed by this move by Wilkerson. Truly puzzling IMO. He left somewhere in the neighborhood of $25 million of guaranteed money on the table if it's truly only the reported $37.5 million guaranteed thru the first two years. Not to mention he should've at least made more money than Fletcher Cox. I'm happy, and now we can wave goodbye to Richardson along with anyone questions about the franchise being loyal in future contract negotiations. Furthermore, cheers to good health for Mo. Hopefully he stays in the 7-10 sack range for the duration of his career.
This is a big relief. I really didnt want to let a player the caliber of Wilkerson walk away. Glad they locked him up. Hopefully they can sign Richardson too.
A frustrated Mo Wilk is not what we could have afforded heading into the season. This is a really big deal in more ways than one.
I'm pretty sure bonuses are usually pro-rated over the length of the deal. That's why you always see dead money in the later years.
I guess I was off a bit, figured if they did sign him it would be in the $15-15.5 range. Either way I am glad he is locked in until he is 32 with the ability to get out at 30-31 if he happens to drop off which I do not think will happen but hard to see the future.
Mac does it again! The man knows what he's doing. I love how they kept the negotiations off the radar. Far cry from recent leadership isn't it... All Hail Magic Mike!!!
Bust out the champagne! Time to celebrate! You gotta respect the fact that the Jets have kept things quiet. We were so used to the old ways where everything leaked. They fooled everyone. It's funny how for the last month and change, it was a foregone conclusion that a deal wouldn't get done. All analysts were positive that tagging Von Miller was the best move ever and tagging Wilkerson was a desperate move that would hurt the Jets. I like the contract and can't wait to see the details to see how much cap space gets opened up as a result. At this point, the off season is a win, whether Fitzpatrick signs or not, but this could create more leeway to sign him. Yay! I can keep my username!
