Also if we wait and sign Richardson to a six year deal in two years we will have that position filled for eight more years rather than six if we sign Mo today. Which is something to think about.
Don't forget the rookies and Bilal Powell too. I thibk Jordan Jenkins will be an impact player from the start. The obvious weak spot is the QB position but the 2nd weak spot is the right side of the line. Right side of the line could make or break the season. We saw it before during the Broncos game in 2011.
I really think the place the season is most likely to go over is an injury at LT. Mangold would be a crucial loss also and he's getting older and more fragile every year.
This way this team has been put together is scattershot on the best day, completely fubar all the rest. Ten seasons on from picking Nick and Brick and the Jets best pick otherwise wasn't a pick at all (Austin Howard). During the same period they've drafted a CB or/and DL in the first or 2nd just about every season. When they weren't doing that it was bumbitch short armed offensive linemen and half assed linebackers. This years draft class will be different.... I have a feeling about it.. maybe.
I truly believe Lenard Williams will take a huge step forward this year and make all of this mo drama a moot point
I think he's gonna go off. I remember reading that he was 3rd among 3-4 DE's in QB hits (behind only Watt, Wilkerson) and only converted 3 of them into sacks. That shows you that he was consistently getting to the QB just a split second too late. With a year of experience under his belt and another offseason of getting stronger and faster (remember, he's only 21 and still maturing) I think he can dominate.
Superior athlete does not mean superior player. Joe Mcknight was a superior athlete to Danny Woodhead and we all saw how that worked out. Richardson seems to be a head case and I'd rather not have the franchise dependent on him in the future. You can guess that his ceiling is higher, but has Mo even reached his ceiling yet? Do you really KNOW that his ceiling is higher? I don't think Mo has reached it yet, but he is clearly the superior player to Richardson now. I'm just going to be annoyed if Wilkerson ends up walking and then they hook up Richardson with a mega contract. That will make me sick considering he's one infraction away from a year suspension. I'd rather keep Mo and trade Richardson once his value gets back up there. Mo is going to get paid, whether he stays with the Jets or not. Might as well keep a home grown talent. 4:00 pm today is the deadline. I'd take 6 years of Wilkerson over 8 years of Richardson in a heartbeat. What's the point of 8 years if one of them ends up being a suspension? If I were the Jets FO, I really wouldn't want to put my eggs in that basket. But alas, I'm not a gm or expert, so it's just my humble opinion. Mo playing the year out on a franchise tag is a complete failure and huge mistake, IMO. I keep hearing about Von Miller's mega deal, but wonder why we haven't heard anything about the Jets making offers or even about what numbers they are in disagreement about. It makes me wonder if they are even talking.
Hmmm. Adam Schefter said on NFL Insiders that the only other "situation to watch" before the 4pm deadline is Mo and the Jets. Sounds like things might be progressing behind the scenes. That would really surprise me, but it'd be awesome.
Von Miller just got his deal with the Broncos and it isn't that bad, 6 years 114m...if the jets are ever to do anything with mo now is the time.
Reading through the lines a little bit, Schefter might've been told to say that so viewers don't turn off the 2 hour "Franchise tag deadline" special when the most plugged-in source says that no deals are going to get done.
Where do they get the $$$? They just resigned Demaryius Thomas last year & gave him a boatload of cash. They resigned B. Marshall in the middle & D. Wolfe on the D-line. They have guys with some substantial annual pay like D Ware, Talib, Chris Harris, TJ Ward. They did get Russell Okung under a very cheap contract. But it seems like they are working under a different CAP. We have Revis &......................who else? Besides maybe Mangold & Harris.
The guaranteed money is what matters, contract length and total money are negligible. Miller just got $70mil guaranteed, second most of any player in history, regardless of position. Bye bye Mo.
If they gave up on Fitz then they could do a deal with Mo and it probably wouldn't even cost as much as the tag..oops.. figure will for the first year.
Mo is a great player and a great Jet. I'd be happy if they signed him to a long-term deal. But given the market for DL's and the Jets emerging DL players it makes sense that the Jets FO wouldnt be ready to pay up and meet his demands.
Anyone know what the deal is now with Wilk? Can the Jets trade him or sign him to an extension at some point in the future?
Thanks....what if he were to sit out the season? Do we still own his rights? Not that I expect it just curious
