Or Miller. If you're gonna pay a fortune atleast do it for a position of need.

I would say position of value rather than position of need. Elite pass rushers and elite wide receivers have the power to single handedly take over games. Elite defensive linemen (at least those not named Watt) don't.

The Broncos won't trade us Miller and besides I think he's overrated now because of his hot streak in the playoffs. He isn't worth the 20M salary he wants. IMO Jeffrey is more interesting as he'll be cheaper to sign and we need young offensive talent. But I don't think the Bears would make that trade either.

So you are seriously saying that Wilkerson's 12 sacks had nothing to do with the Jets winning games last year? #3 WRs don't exactly take over games either. DEs are more valuable than they ever have been and yes, they rush the passer too.

Mo is an elite pass-rusher technically, I think you are referring to elite edge rushers. Regardless, there is only like 5 players in the NFL that can do what Mo does. He is very valuable in that regard, and does things Watt doesn't do on the field.

Sad when we should have drafted Alshon Jeffrey over Stephen Hill to begin with

A dominant SEC WR who everyone knew was a beast vs. a project who caught 40 passes in college.....hmmmm

I didn't say that Mo had "nothing to do" with the Jets winning games, those are words that you inserted directly into my mouth. I said that defensive linemen (tackles and 3-4 ends) don't have as much of an impact on games as #1 wide receivers or edge rushers do. Don't believe me, go watch the AFC Championship game and the Super Bowl. Von Miller took over those games in a way no 5-technique ever could. Same goes for an elite wide out, he can consistently uncover himself and run the entire offense up and down the field if he's having a good day.

What I said has nothing to do with Mo in particular, I think he should get paid and hope we find a way to do it. I just said I'd rather spend big bucks on an edge rusher or wide out than on a defensive lineman.

He's as valuable as a 3-4 defensive end can possibly be and I hope we keep him, but I was just suggesting it's more tolerable to overpay edge rushers and wideouts given they have greater impacts on games

I don't think it's really tolerable to overpay anybody very much if you're planning to win a Lombardi Trophy. QB is the position where teams do it now and then but I'm still not sure it's all that tolerable, just better than the alternative.

What positions on a football team can drop out all of a sudden and still allow you to win it all with a replacement level player? I'm pretty sure 3-4 DE is high on the list of positions that you can still win it all with an average player instead of your star.

Fact is it's looking more and more like we lose him at some point with minimal compensation.

That is exactly what will happen. I think in this new cap era in sports, you should be able to afford to keep your homegrown elite talent. We aren't paying a QB anytime soon, if by some miracle Hackenberg becomes the guy you try and keep as much elite defensive talent as you can ala the Seahawks - that gives you the best chance to win.

The problem is the Jets could have afforded him but spent elsewhere and chose to draft his replacement.

I wish we could see how far apart they are. Bronco fans pretty much know what's going on with Von Miller, we know absolutely nothing about Mo and the negotiations. No leaks, that's what we asked for as Jet fans though.

I'd rather not know. The Fitz nonsense negotiating through the media is annoying enough.

Didn't we hear that they haven't even talked since last December? Maybe that's why you aren't hearing anything.

Yeah you got a point, it wouldn't make much of a difference it'll just piss fans off more.

I thought they were negotiating prior to the draft? Who knows, but I think both sides promised no leaks.

Are the Fitz and Mo deals related? If we dump Fitz, does that free up the money to sign Mo and vice versa?

Should we be looking to tie up Sheldon instead?

No, the money to sign fitz is available via a few simple restructures. Mo's money is already accounted for in the cap hit he already has under the franchise tag figure.
There is no reason to begin negotiating with sheldon since we have his rights for 2 years easily
