The Harvey situation is terrible, but at the same time he's been piss poor all year so its not like we're gonna fall of the map. We've been basically doing it without him all year anyway, although to have him pitching well at full health would make us that much more of a monster. Even if he does pitch all year he is just not that good right now.

New York Mets starting pitcher Matt Harvey has elected to undergo season-ending surgery, his agent, Scott Boras, told ESPN on Friday.
Harvey was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday after experiencing discomfort in his throwing shoulder. Subsequent testing revealed symptoms consistent with thoracic outlet syndrome, a condition that results from excess pressure on the nerves or blood vessels between the rib cage and collarbone that can cause pain in the shoulder and neck.

Boras told ESPN the thoracic outlet syndrome is the reason Harvey has underperformed this season.

In 17 starts this year, Harvey has pitched for a 4.86 ERA with a league-leading 10 losses and four wins.

There is no way this is the reason he pitched like shit. I don't buy it. You don't go thru the lineup 1 or 2 times and look dynamite then get shelled in the 5th inning everytime when it's his third time. Go look at his 5th inning era compared to the first few innings.

Don't get me wrong, he's probably hurt but it wouldn't surprise me if the motivation behind this is to try and save face and hope he (and boras) can still cash in next year.

And if this was an issue all year then the Mets' medical staff needs to be cleaned out once and for all.

How do you not send Reyes first and third no outs?

I feel like it's only a matter of time before Matz & Noah end up on the DL.

Going tonight with my gf and her friends. For what it's worth we have been to 6 mets games since last year and we are 5-1. Tonight isn't going to be easy but shit, let's hope the luck continues. And let's hope the rain holds!

What the hell did we get him for? So we can steal a goddamned base!!! So what happens? We don't send him and Lagares hits into a DP. I was literally screaming with every pitch "send him! take out the chance of a DP!" What the fuck. I am having such a hard time watching this team this year, part of that is my own neurosis I admit, but part of it is how frustrating and idiotic this team can be.

    I love sportspickle

NEW YORK — Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred announced today that MLB will no longer allow any other player to wear a 4XL jersey in honor of the nearly 43-year old New York Mets pitcher and marvel of physics Bartolo Colon.

“Bartolo is the most beloved player in our sport and it is only right that we honor him as long as the game of baseball is played, assuming it still exists when he possibly retires in the coming decades, of course,” said Manfred. “The exquisite specimen that is Bartolo has worn two jersey numbers during his career, so instead of picking a number to retire, we have chosen to retire his 4XL jersey size. No player will be able to wear a polyester, one-man tent over his upper body again.”
Manfred acknowledged that it is unlikely any player would come along in the future who could fill a 4XL, but stressed that is what makes Colon so remarkable.

“Not only is he much rounder than fellow professional athletes, but he is larger than even your average American citizen,” said the commissioner. “It’s what makes him such a remarkable being. He’s striking people out and hitting massive home runs with a mid-40s body that looks like it’s spent 20 years on a couch. He’s maybe the only professional athlete that American fans can truly identify with. Bartolo is a legend and he must be honored as such.”

Colon said he is very appreciative of MLB’s decision.

“I did not expect this, but it means a lot,” he said. “Although, I should be mention that I haven’t fit into a 4XL since 2006. I’m on a 6XL now. Still, though, I’m very honored.”

Keep pitching the same way against him. Don't take a different approach at all.

I don't think we are making the playoffs boys. Saw today that the Pirates have 34 of 70 games left vs the Brewers Reds and Phillies. Wouldn't surprise me one bit to see them jump us.
