Ryan Fitzpatrick signed a 2 year, $7,250,000 contract with the Texans in 2014. He outplayed that contract last year with the Jets, so the Jets offered him nearly double that for the first year with a 3 year, $24 million deal. Fitz declined it. Makes him look terrible, as it was fair. Even $6 million in 2017 and 2018 is really fair. I assume that money is not guaranteed, but it would be a pretty nice chunk of change for a QB backing up Hackenberg or Petty. I am sure I said this on one of the other 223 pages, but I would be fine with Fitz acting like this IF he beat the Bills and led the Jets to the playoffs and an (11-5) record. Instead he melted down against a terrible and injury filled Bills team. Unacceptable and really took away from a great (10-6) Jets season.
I don't blame Fitz for the Buffalo game. Rex had his guys fired up like I've never seen before; it was their super bowl to knock us out of the playoffs. I'm not sure Joe Montana in his prime would have fared much better. ... thinking back, we all felt in our hearts we would win (based on the season we were having) but in our heads we were thinking CRAP we're screwed having to face the Bills to get in.
Really? Fitz was throwing horribly in the first half. His ducks didn't fare too well in the bad weather. Then, when he did start to complete passes in the second half, he killed our momentum with horrible interceptions. We were knocking on the door in the red zone to take the lead and have a stranglehold on the game late in the fourth quarter. And Fitzpatrick reverted to his journeyman self. That game is precisely why he doesn't deserve anything north of $10 million. He is too old and [dis]proven to command any more than that.
^^^ read the part I added to my post above Most of us at the time were cursing our bad luck at having to face Rex and the Bills week 17 to get in. It didn't really matter who we had behind center, that was revenge served on a silver platter for Rex. (some would say justice for how he was treated by Idzik)
I don't blame Fitzpatrick for the loss either. It was a team loss. Bowles coached poorly, the offense was terrible, the defense wasn't great, it was a group effort. However, Fitz did throw 3 INT including the first one that was truly the killer. All I was saying is if he did win that game, these contract demands would make more sense.
I agree that fitz is a better option, how much better we probably disagree on. While it takes less of a leap of faith to beliew fitz can replicate or improve upon this last season it sti takea a bit of a leap. For me personally, i just don't know for sure gailey couldn't get the same offensive production out of geno. Couple that with the fact that fitz has mangage to find a way to lose every starting gig he has found and i just don't care if he walks because the jets won't commit to him for more than 1 year.
The biggest thing is it's a crapshoot if they don't resign him. You're at least guaranteed a reliable player that the teammates like, even if it comes at the pitfall of average performance. Throw Geno out there? Who knows, he could suck again, players might not be happy and if they wait until pre season some team in need of a QB due to injury or uncertainty might sign Fitzpatrick, given his quick adaptability to various teams he is a good immediate solution to a sudden injury for basically any team. Then what if Geno gets hurt? Then what do you do? Throw Petty or Hackenberg out there and hope? What if they prove no better? They should have thrown a reasonable offer out there before that Osweiler contract hit. Of course their salary cap issues probably didn't help, but the current regime has to clean up the aftermath of the previous at the same time.
+10000 I wish more of TGG would get this We really have no assets at QB and for goodness sake Fitz does not want Ostweiler $...SMH
^ this tard exclaiming what the entire board should have figured out is worth 6 McNuggets on veterans day.
Ryan Fitzpatrick could have silenced all his critics in Buffalo in week 17. He would have delighted Rex critics everywhere. It would have validated the hiring of all new coaching staff and management for the Jets. He would have exorcized some Buffalo demons for Chan Gailey. The Jets would be in the playoffs! It would have been a knife into the heart of Buffalo. All Fitzpatrick had to do was not be horrible. He answered that call by being horrible three drives in a row. Signing him should have the same priority as evaluating whether or not having a Flight Crew burka day is a good idea.
I say let him walk on principle. I what universe is this man worth the money he is demanding? Besides, we have a top 3 reciever corps and that had everything to do with his success.
I agree with this in principle. In reality, I root for the Jets and enjoy myself when they win. Which seems to happen pretty rarely when Gino plays. I'm all for giving the lad a last chance but the leash is shorter than an irishman's dick at this point
I'd give Fitz til a week before Training Camp to make up his mind. If he declines to sign, then I would trade for Foles or McCown and have them on the team before camp begins. Then have a true 4-way QB Battle. Whoever wins, wins. Fitzpatrick is not good enough to hold a franchise hostage this long.
I think it's been suggested on here, but it's pretty obvious he's just looking to skip training camp. He'll sign the second or third week of August and be ready for Week 1.
Hes not good enough to skip training camp and if this team allows that, theyre fucking dumber than i thought. Doesnt matter how anyone here feels about him, hes not Brady or Favre. Brady dont miss camp, neither does Rodgers. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
