If you wanted an honest answer all you had to do was ask. Also, don't generalize my ideas here, race will always play a factor in terms of gun violence and that is on both sides of the coin. Socialization, however plays a large role as well. Now, when I mean both sides of the coin, I mean a "kill or be killed" mentality. First, however you need to look more into that specific mentality.

You have to take into account the other aspects especially the children and youth [whom a lot fall to gun-fire as well - wherever that be school shootings, police shooting, or young gangsters trying to earn their stripes]. Especially those that are exposed to gun violence or violence in general. The National Institute of Justice Research wrote an article in terms of Child abuse and neglect, crime patterns and future trends, statistics [all major components of sociology].

Sociology wherever you like it or not plays a HUGE role in terms of violence, hell it drives a lot of things like the War on Drugs as well and I am sure there is a correlation for all of that. The War on Drugs pumped inner cities with drugs like Heroin and Crack and well, you know Gun Violence came from that.
