When d'Arnaud is hitting even close to the way he's hitting now , I can put up with his issues behind the plate. Him having a strong 2nd half and staying healthy is essential to a divisonal run. Even though someone like Lucroy would be an upgrade , it would be helpful it wasnt necessary for us to give up future assets unless a bigger deal came along.
d'Arnaud can hit. When he came back the second half of last season he was a good player for us. He also handles the pitchers well. Better than Plawecki imo. He knows what he's doing back there. Those stolen bases when he last caught Thor were on Thor. Granted he's not great at throwing runners out. But our young pitchers are still learning how to pitch with runners on themselves. It makes us a better team when d'ARNAUD's on his game. He's still ascending.... IF he stays healthy
Well that sucked. Matz looked good and came out of the game well. He sounded very positive afterwards too. A positive anyway. Let's get the rubber game tomorrow
Why did Reyes leadoff? He hasn't hit at all since his return to pro ball. I don't understand Collins sometimes..
Lead off is where he belongs it would have made more sense to ease him in. Still, his skillset is still there, the guy is going to produce for the Mets it's just a matter of time
Sounds like a phantom injury to keep Harvey out of the Nats series. Does this push Jake up to Sunday? Hope so. Wouldn't want to start Verrett any game in that series.
Jake is the man.... I'd rather not see him on three days rest tho. An all hands on deck approach for the Sunday game works I suppose. I would really rather not push him tho. I guess where we stand after three games will have a say also. We'll see... Guess they'll call a Pitcher up too?
Yeah especially after 120 pitches today. Maybe TC wouldn't have let that happen if this Harvey news came out before the game. Even still deGrom on 3 days even if he can only go 5 or 80 pitches , would be better than Verrett from the start, but you're right , a lot would depend on the situation going into Sunday. Seth Lugo was called up too as the corresponding move.
deGrom is our best pitcher I think. If we make the Wild Card he's my man. Of course how the rotation is set up will determine it tho. Obviously Noah can shut a team out too. But man deGrom is such a good pitcher, he's a bulldog, and wins even when he's not on his A game. He got fatigued last year and I dread losing him. I guess they're giving Harvey a breather to let him regroup. I hope he's not hurt tho. That would be bad.
Yeah Harvey being out for an extended period wouldnt be great. Im just not so sure this is a physical ailment as much as its time to get his head right. If he missed more than 2 total starts Id be pretty surprised. Obviously we would all prefer Harvey to face the Nats opposed to any type of replacement pitcher. But I dont know if there is a pitcher on the staff I trust less with a deficit right now than I do Harvey. He's had too many start against Washington where 1-0 turns into 7-0 in the blink of an eye. Jake has really battled back after a rough beginning to his season. Even though I think Noah has more "ace-like" stuff , deGrom's composure makes me want him on the mound in the big games too.
