BINGO! Before the internet it was Richard Todd vs Matt Robinson. Kenny O could never live down that he was taken before Marino. The 2 long term QBs we have had in the ganggreen, com era Chad and Sanchez both had there share of support and hate.
Yep. I supported both too. 100%. Chad is my favorite Jets QB ever and Mark got a bad wrap for winning 4 playoff games and leading his team to 2 AFC Championship Games. However, I could feel the time when both needed to move on due to overwhelming negativity from the fans and media. I am also a strong Ryan Fitzpatrick supporter. If he re-signs and plays well in 2016, I would have no problem giving him the job in 2017 too. Hope it happens.
Fitz needs to send Macacnan an unlimited refill card for Starbucks before this deal gets done..cheers
Not looking good my friend I just saw Macs Godfather Charlie Casserly on NFL Network saying to hold the line on Fitzpatrick and that he thinks "there is not much difference between Fitz and Geno"...especially since Smith "didn't play bad the end of 2014" Really Charlie? He probably needs a new set of glasses imo Anyway, MM probably spends at least 2 hours talking to CC plus thanking him 100xs for help getting him his GM job. I like Casserly and he is fairly revered in NFL circles but I am sure he cares more about the Redskins than the laughable Jets So now Mac is defining his tenure as Jets GM with decisions like overpaying Mevi$ drafting C Hackenburg and starting Geno over Fitz...Well gl with that Unless this is just an orchestrated ploy between Mac and CC to reiterate the hard line and force Fitz to sign RF has to make some important decisions with 3 1/2 weeks till TC: Listen to Sexton and hope Geno screws up the preseason or reg season wherein the Jets would probably give Fitz his $ ;or take the Jets deal/fire Sexton; keep your Agent but take the Jets deal. Fitz has no leverage here and mac/CC know it So the brain trust of Bowles MM and CC will be trotting out Geno Smith week one... Excuse me I have to go pray now
Geno had the 2nd highest rating in the NFL for the month of December 2014... Charlie's glasses are fine.
Casserly on NFLN => MM thanks him x100 times in 2 hours => Orchestrated ploy => CC is now a part of Jets brain trust => Geno week 1 Not stretching at all, not overreaching either
No chance the Jets should tie all of their cap space onto Fitzpatrick. He couldn't get us in last season because of his awful play in WK17, I believe the Jets think that version of Fitzpatrick is the version they are more likely to see next season. Let's not push the panic button on Mac because of this decision. At the end of the day it's a good decision not to give Fitzpatrick a crazy amount of cash. He wants the money first and he doesn't want to help mentor the young QBs because that 2nd and 3rd year in the deal is the reason he doesn't want to sign.
Yea like it's all Fitz's fault the Jets didn't make the playoffs last year. It's almost like we didn't have a bunch of must win games leading up to week 17 that we DID win. Fitz gets no credit for that, just the bad one week 17 where the ugly special teams that dragged the team down all season also reared it's ugly head again. I will never begin to be able to understand this it's fitz's fault we didn't make playoffs POV some people have on here. I can't imagine we would have even been in playoff contention if IK didn't fuck up the turd in the preseason.
Do you not remember slap-dick throw to Decker that resulted in an INT while we were driving? That was one of the worst throws of the season hands down and we were RIGHT there. All that matters is how you end the season, the lasting impression of the season was that very throw. I am not putting 100% of the blame on Fitz, but that was an ugly throw at a crucial time. Fitz had a good season, but he's not replicating the success he had last year.
Of course I remember that shit throw, and Fitz had a bad game. If you want to pretend like that's the only thing that matters all season then you have a warped way of looking at things IMO. I don't believe for a second we're even in contention for a spot last year without Fitz doing what he did. Over the course of the entire season, special teams was by far the biggest detriment to the team last year. If we can improve that unit to middle of the pack and maintain the same level of play on offense and defense we're easily a playoff team. Easier said than done, but there was no clear indication that Fitz was dragging the team down last year. Not even close. Why would you assume he couldn't do well again this year?
If we get even average level of punting all year we are in the playoffs without the need for tie-breakers. Fitz was awful that game but he was one of the main reasons we were a 10-6 team last year, the undisputed leader of the offense. And I'll never make excuses for Fitz--that was a AWFUL throw but he was down BOTH Ivory and Powell, the defense was horrible, Revis let Watson run wild and if Enunwa makes that catch and waltzes into the end zone no one is thinking about that pick. _
Apparently. Those 5 weeks heading up to the Buffalo game--who gives a shit about them? The overtime drive against the Pats--can't even remember. _
I'll just say that while I agree with you for the most part on your assessment of the team, to your last statement, I'll assume that Fitzpatrick couldn't do well again this year because he has shown throughout his career that he can't maintain success consistently. And if you look at the man's career, last season was the outlier not the norm and he's burned other teams into thinking he is something he is not after a good stretch of play. I would be very surprised if he can come close to last year's output. Surprised in a good way of course, but none-the-less very surprised. Either way I am glad they aren't betting on a repeat performance with $12 million
It was a good season only to get washed away by an inept performance when it counted the most. Jets didn't play well that day, but that was the day Fitzpatrick could've silenced a lot of naysayers saying he couldn't get into the post-season or play great in a high pressure win or go home game. If he played better that day, no doubt Fitz would've been signed by now as the Jets would've paid him for getting the Jets into the post-season. However, the Jets are thinking this guy can only get us so far. A lot of things went well for the Jets. Jets were productive on offense all year, but they couldn't throw the ball down the field last year due to limitations at the QB position and I think defenses will try and take advantage of that next year. I agree Special Teams absolutely killed the season as well. But, when the Jets needed someone to step up, the QB failed to deliver. He dragged them down when they first played the Bills too. 5 interceptions in 2 games unacceptable. You could take 1 away as it was in garbage time, but an awful performance against a team you have to beat at least once. I don't think he can replicate what he did last year cause teams know he can't throw down the field, but Fitz will anyway, teams will bait him to make throws he can't make and it could result in more INTs. I don't know about you, but my lasting impression of last season was getting our butts kicked by our former HC. Good season, but left a bad taste in my mouth because we could've made noise if we got in.
If you look at his career you'll also see his best seasons are with Chan Gailey. Not surprisingly, when you put the best weapons of his career around him with his best offensive coordinator, his performance improved. I'm not saying to write him a blank check mind you.
Right--it was probably on the list of "intercept able" passes and if the corner took a better route it would have been a pick 6. Lets' not give Fitz any credit for that throw, or the throw to Marshall or the TD to Decker. That TD looked interceptable too if the CB was 8 foot 10. _
