Maybe. IMO that's the key for the Thunder. If you think Westbrook will stay, you keep him and hope he can lure in someone else next year. If not, you have to trade him for as much as you can get.
If you're a fan of the player first, what does it matter what team he's on. Just follow him to the Warriors; its arbitrary what team he's on.
I don't get this from either side. Durant and the Thunder were THIS CLOSE to taking down the 73 win Warriors team. And the Warriors were THIS CLOSE to winning back-to-back Titles. Now both seem to be selling out with this move. The Warriors would have been fine without Durant and likely have had a great chance of winning it all in 2017, and Durant and the Thunder would have had a great chance of beating them and the Cavs in 2017. Ask yourself this: If Durant was on the Warriors, would they have won the NBA Finals this year? Answer: Easily. He would have had Barnes' spot and of course would have played better. Still, it is an interesting move.
I'm not suggesting it's racist but an incomprehensible black dude eating fried chicken? He coulda gone with an apple. _
Jesus Christ in a handcart, get this guy a plate? napkin? paper towel? That's some serious fan vitriol right there to start foaming up chicken bits.
I wish he would have gone with nothing at all, because that whole shindig, funny as the rant may be, gets some distinct points off for flying chicken bits. What Durant did would have been like Ted Williams or any of those guys packing up and heading to the Yankees if it was possible to do so at the time. I have no horse in the race but this is just bad for the NBA. They really need to look at having a double cap where you can only spend so much on starters.
I totally get it. He has more money than God. But he wants a championship. Regardless of what it takes in terms of reputation or machismo or whatever. All that matters is getting a championship. If Dan Marino had won ONE SB he'd be regarded as one of the GOATS. It really doesn't matter if you win it by yourself or with a powerhouse. It's all about the ring. If KD never wins a championship but retires with $400 million, all you dudes will be satisfied but he'll feel incomplete. Let him go try to win one at all costs. I still hope LeBron kicks his ass. _
Ted Williams never won a World Series. Neither did Ernie Banks. You think those guys wouldn't have given up some of their dignity for the taste of a championship? Damn right they would have. _
Context of the championship matters. John Sally has 4 rings but it doesn't really mean that much. Elite players lead their teams to championships, that's what meaningful about winning a championship vs being on a team that wins a championship like Sally was for half of those. The championship without that context is meaningless. For a player like Durant to believe simply being on a team that wins a championship is as meaningful as being the player who leads his team to a championship would indicate a lack of competitiveness that is probably the reason he hasn't won a championship yet. But, hey, maybe he should be applauded for the honesty to admit he isn't good enough to win a title and he's happy to simply get a Sally ring.
This guy broadcast on twitch every night with 4000+ viewers and he's a massive LeBron fanboy. Half the time I don't understand what he's saying. He's also from Texas if I remember correctly. Sent from my BLU LIFE ONE X using Tapatalk
Yes, thats the clear reason, but he was so close to doing it in OKC. Yep. I agree. There is a huge difference between winning it for OKC and winning it with GSW. Any fan should be able to see that.
But he's not John Sally. He's not Bill Wennigton. He's not Robert Horry. He's the superstar that brought a championship back to a prior champion. And dethroned LeBron. Big difference IMHO. And for his perspective it may be HUGE. John Sally may believe his championships are the epitome of his career. We can judge but ultimately our judgement may mean nothing to the participants. Not to mention he may have s monetary kicker in his sneaker deal if he wins a championship, any championship. _
He's NOT a fan. He's a player. Ask Marino how he feels being true to Miami but never winning. It's naive. _
The participants rarely get to write the narrative that the people believe. I'm sure Sally holds those titles in high regards, they just don't mean much in the annals of NBA history. Durant is free to delude himself as the star the brought a title back to Golden State the same that John Sally can claim to have led more teams to championships than Charles Barkley; it just doesn't mean that is how history regards it.
