I don't think we can squash it, we really fucked up by going to get Saddam but what else is new with American foreign policy. It was us going into Iraq that caused this entire region to destabilize. We have a responsibility to all these innocent people who's lives we destroyed because Dubya had to impress daddy.
Definetly don't agree entirely. Obama has done a good job of furthering these radical groups. Also, if we owe these people why is Europe being flooded. I don't believe for a second any gov is doing this out if sympathy or responsibility. . Also sympathy should never override the responsibility to your own citizens
Saddam really kept all those countries over there in check with his country being right in the middle of that hellhole.
Not just Saddam but Qaddafi, Mubarak and Assad. Giant assholes but I believe there is something in the culture where you need a strong man to dictate over the population.
Landed at Istanbul airport 3 days ago to attend my friends funeral who lost his life in this attack. He was my childhood friend and I had hard time saying goos bye to him. The day I landed at the airport, there were some closures due to the wreck but Duty Free was working. I headed there to pick up a Scotch as I wanted to get drunk after the funeral and talking to the cashier, I told her how sorry I was about what happened and I wished her well. She shed some tears and said sir I thank you very much. Earlier this morning a gentelman told her he wished the suicide bombers detonated themselves at the Duty free shop for selling alcohol during Ramadan. At this point, I can easily say at least 20% of Turks had joy over this event. And hundred thousands of jihadists are waiting the orders to detonate themselves. Seriously at this point, including myself, fuck all muslims, all of them.
Dude, our prayers are with you and your people. Please watch your back while you're there pardner. Don't let ISIS make you "famous" ok?
There's a lot to be said for minding your business... Isolationism just doesn't make sense in a increasingly globally connected planet. We got two oceans protecting us but at the end of the day, perhaps we should stop spreading our idea of "democracy" planetwide as it doesn't work for everyone in every circumstance.
And this really is the key. You can't be bestowed this type of democracy, it has to be so important to you that you are willing to fight and die for it like our founding fathers were. But that was their ideology and vision, and we think of it as normal because it is the culture we have lived in. But it's our culture. That's where the Muslim apologists also falter, because they fail to accept that Muslims have a history that embodies a completely different ideology than ours. The apologists want to project our ideologies onto Muslims and pretend they don't have any cultural values of their own that conflict with ours. You can't force culture on people who have their own culture, and democracy is part of our culture.
