Gotta give d'Arnaud credit. He's been much better at the plate since his return. Finally adding a little stability offensively to the catcher position. Baseball is a funny damn game. 4 straight losses and the best team in baseball (you would think of all time if you heard the Fox broadcast tonight) coming in and 3 straight reeled off. Already got a great feeling with taking atleast 3 out of 4 from them, but getting the sweep tomorrow could give us some nice energy going into next weeks divisional matchups.
Great job by Colon. Good to see Lagares back. DuQuette said in the post game he expects Terry to move d'Arnaud up in the lineup. Reyes getting closer, and the roster is starting to fill out again. I'll be happy to see Jose @3B and Wilmer on the bench as a backup and RH hitting platoon guy. Enough already with Wilmer. Nimmo looking good....It took him a while to grow up and mature but maybe they have a player in him yet....knock on wood
What a team the Mets could be if they did the little things a baseball team is supposed to do. Bunt, productive outs moving runners from 2nd to 3rd, steal some bases here and there. I wonder sometimes if that's just players being set in their ways or a manager not wanting to try different things. I'm a Yankees fan but I watch a good amount of the Mets (in part due to the Yankees relative irrelevance this year) would it hurt Terry to put a hit & run on every once in a blue moon? He's so damn concerned with futzing with the lineup when guys are struggling and as alluded to moving up a guy whose coming into his own in d'Arnaud that he doesn't coach up the little things sometimes. Makes me wonder what a manager like Walt Weiss would do with a team like this, as a manager that preaches some of the little things in his baseball philosophy.
The Mets do try to bunt. But the reality is nobody on this team can put down a successful one. I think Colon and Noah are the only ones all year to put down a halfway decent bunt. It's sad. Another problem is this team has zero speed. Maybe that changes when Reyes comes up but I'm not sure how much the gameplan will change, although I would expect a couple more steals (can't really expect any less than what we've seen so far).
Get Reyes in the lineup and squeeze lagares in there somehow and you have legit speed in the first two spots of the lineup. Grandy slides down in the lineup to give you more power and hopefully that allowed him to be a little more aggressive at the plate
Agreed. The OF is a cluster right now with all these guys. Id love to see Lagares get normal playing time but Grandy and Nimmo need regular at bats too. Doubt Nimmo sees much playing time against lefties if Lagares remains healthy though. But atleast TC has options.
Keith just said it, we're gonna need another bat at some point. If Conforto hadn't slid into the rut maybe not. But even with Reyes we need a professional hitter for the stretch. I guess Reynolds goes when Jose comes up. Now, at some point Sandy needs to get a guy to take De Aza's place. I'm going to be disappointed if we don't make a serious attempt to get a guy. That will be my only major criticism of this team since early last year. That Sandy will placate the Coupons here with Conforto, Duda, and other in house options, and the Coupons don't fork up some dough this year.
The roster is sort of a piecemeal and not built right now to play 'small ball'. It's a big inning team right now. Reyes and Lagares, and maybe Nimmo, should help. But, the young players in the system are all the type players that will be conducive to play more of a running contact type game. Nimmo, and Conforto make good contact and command the strike zone, Herrera can run, and Dominic Smith and Amed Rosario are looking like can't miss guys who can handle the bat and are all around good players
The Mets sweep the Cubs, who'da thunk it. Here's to hoping the offense doesn't go back into a lull and we can keep them alive.
Yep we've seen the last few games (again) what the team is capable of when they are mashing the ball. Just too many dry periods where the entire lineup isnt hitting and thats when things go south for weeks. Tough to maintain those type of really high and really low stretches for an entire season. Gotta be some middle ground sooner or later, atleast I hope.
Not many pitchers in the game unravel as quickly as Harvey does. When things go good he rolls right along. If one thing happens out of the ordinary he implodes. Can see it coming from a mile away.
Jose Jose is on the way.....http://m.mets.mlb.com/news/article/187984770/mets-announce-jose-reyes-to-join-team-tuesday With Nimmo looking good and d'Arnaud getting his timing things are looking a lot better. Hopefully Conforto can get his mojo back sooner than later
