Because it doesn't promote fear amongst the sheep and help push an agenda. I mean this is a story about a person taking action and saving multiple lives before the cops got there. They can't promote that.
Somebody determined to kill a lot of people doesn't need an assault rifle. A nut with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and a half dozen extra magazines can kill 15 or 20 people before he is stopped.
