Unbelievable story, both in Iceland's pulling off a shocking victory, and England pulling off another shocking defeat.
England has proven again and again they are capable of losing to anyone. Think of how many caps Rooney has and then consider how little England has accomplished during his time with the national team. Iceland has roughly the population of Leicester.
Remember when leceister celebrated when tottenham lost to chelsea, Here is wales celebrating english lost
The only reason this is such a "shock" is because the stupid English media hype up their own mediocre players every single major tournament. I mean, an over the hill Wayne Rooney playing midfield? Raheem Sterling? Even wonder boy Harry Kane looked completely lost on the international stage. Joe Hart is terrible. Roy Hodgson is tactically clueless and makes woeful personnel decisions (hmmmm, let's bring in Rashford, our most dangerous attacking option with four minutes left. Let's continue to start Sterling who's done 0 the whole tournament). Meanwhile, Iceland beat Holland twice, beat Turkey, and the Czech Republic during qualifying. I get how it's stunning that a country of 300k could knock out "mighty" England, but England have been mediocre at best for a decade now, and this doesn't look to be changing anytime soon.
Many still claim the EPL is the top league in the world, even though that isn't true, and the English national team has stars from the EPL. The stars of the EPL are some of the biggest names in soccer, even though they always come up short in international play.
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/humiliated-hodgson-england-sombre-euro-2016-exit-155834312--sow.html Chantilly (France) (AFP) - England's now ex-coach Roy Hodgson said he was unsure why he had to appear at an awkward press conference on Tuesday after his team's humiliating Euro 2016 defeat by Iceland. "I don't really know what I'm doing here. I thought my statement last night was sufficient," Hodgson told the media in Chantilly as England's players solemnly departed their luxurious hotel to return home. Hodgson had resigned in a statement after the 2-1 defeat on Monday and he made clear his displeasure that he was was forced to appear alongside Football Association chief executive Martin Glenn.
But it's been the same trend for years now. Big names, big disappointment. I don't know why anyone thought 2016 would be different. England was terrible at the World Cup in 2014 under Hodgson.
It's a massive humiliating loss...these players even if they to some of you are mediocre were the best in EPL. Vardy, Kane, etc...their coach Roy was absolute trash. No game plan and organization on how to play. He played favoritism and left the some of the better players in fork (like Drinkwater) at england. I 100% believe Iceland beat England and they are not scared of anyone. I admire that team and their coach who is a part time dentist. One of the biggest upsets in sports.
Hillary Clinton said that the Istanbul massacre was a spontaneous response to a YouTube Video. Susan Rice will make the rounds of the TV talk shows tomorrow, explaining how the video incited the usually peaceful Muslim Fundamentalists to go on a rampage.
Wish I could watch it live. My Polish friend is texting me every 10 minutes.... no way I can miss the final score Hate watching knowing the outcome
