no I am very clear on the type of QB Fitzpatrick is. I do not think he's very good and I have stated that numerous times. I think the value of training camp is overestimated
Have you ever even played a team sport before? Practice is overstated? Its the key to team improvement. You really think he can just sign up one week before the season with little to no practice and perform that is not true and if we let him we are sending the wrong message. And if you state the opposite your just stating the opposite for the sake of stating the opposite, or trolling and I'm done with this convo.
I am an internet warrior. I have never left my mom's basement of course I've never played a team sport before. Training camp and practice is incredibly valuable at the NFL level....for people like Hackenberg or Devin Smith or other young guys learning the game. An old hat like Fitzpatrick in a system he's played for going on 6 years now, in a position where he gets by relying more on his smarts/knowledge of the system and less on physical abilities? yes.. I think summer grab ass in Florham Park is less important.
Well your wrong. He played in the system going on one year straight now not 6. Did he have it in the past yes but that was years ago and he failed miserably after playing somewhat decent when he signed a new deal (somewhat eerily similar to what can happen now). He has a new Running Back, new Tight End and new Left Tackle possible new third WR. Chemistry is everything in football so is timing. Thats what training camp is for. Will Geno be a better option maybe, maybe not but at least this has the opportunity to put some closure on this situation.
I'm at the point of being ok with Geno starting, but bolded was said about him every season since he'd been here. So I won't believe it until I see it.
Does anyone remember why the Jets only signed Fitz to a one year deal? I know he wasn't considered starter material at the time
go out and sign a veteran ( another hold the fort guy) like flynn. pull the contract offer off the table. panthers did that and they were smart to do it. and, they had a berth in the super bowl, and another good shot at a repeat appearance. (unlike us). let fitz and his agent laugh all they want.
He wasn't brought in to be the starter but the Jets didn't sign him to a 1 year deal. He had 1 year left on the deal he signed with Houston. The Jets traded for him and inherited that contract
To be honest, the lack gun control is the reason we don't have Fitz under contract yet. If they'd be able to legally have guns without issue, Maccagnan would be able to hold a gun to Fitz' head and he'd be under contract already...
I'm hoping that Woody has learned something after having Wolfe and Casserly consulting/advising him, and now that he has a competent professional in Mac as GM. There's no doubt that he has cared too much in the past about what the fans think. For all our sake, we all need to hope that those days are behind us. I agree that how the players react will be another matter, and that there are undoubtedly more "pro-Fitz" players than "pro-Geno" players. At this point, it would almost certainly be laughed at in the locker room, but if Geno continues to play well throughout and preseason, things could change dramatically. Is that likely to happen? No, probably not, but it isn't impossible imo, especially if Geno makes smart decisions, is accurate and gives the Jets' offense a dimension that Fitz doesn't, the deep pass. You have a point about Marshall as well, but remember that Marshall has praised Geno already, and supposedly, Geno was the reason Marshall signed with the Jets last offseason. If there's any truth to that at all, then he would have to stay neutral at worst, if not support Geno.
That's certainly fair, and I can totally understand that. I have my doubts as well, but I'm hoping that Geno shocks everyone.
As Browning Nagle started, Fitz was traded for and that's all that was left on his contract. Since Fitz was only supposed to be a backup and veteran mentor for Geno, I suspect that Mac was thinking/hoping that would be enough, and that Petty would be either ready to take over as Geno's backup, or compete with him for the starting position, so there was no need to renegotiate the contract or extend it at that time. Neither Mac nor anyone else could have foreseen Fitz winding up starting and the Jets having as good a year as they did.
Lol Marshall came here because of Geno. Let's not be naive. First off he was traded here- he didn't sign here but when the Bears made it clear they were dumping him he orchestrated a trade coming to NY because his TV show is filmed here. And he's going to be a TV personality in his next career. Had nothing to do with Geno, let's be real. _
I was never a fan of Fitz. But I was hoping we would bring him in as I thought it would be a good fit for him, and that he could certainly out play Geno when he was over the broken leg. Also, that he would give us a good chance to compete and win some games.
Got it...thanks. Could the Jets have re-done that deal then? Would they have been better served if they could have?
