That means three-and-a-half more weeks of this thread. Ugh.

I'm so over this BS. It's like the semi good looking girl gets hot then starts being unrealistic about her hotness. But she still has bad breath. She's lucky to have us!

    Resign you bad breath bitch!!!!!

Fitz's only leverage is time. Jets know this. It will go down to the wire or even past.

The Jets should put a deadline on this. But the deadline does not have to be Fitz signs or we don't sign him by a certain date. They should say if Fitz isn't back by this date we believe Geno will be better suited to start game one. If Fitz doesn't sign we anoint game 1 or maybe even preseason to Geno, and take it week by week after that.

We can say with Geno's improvement and preparation in the off season we deem him better suited to start game one than if Fitz only has this amount of time to prepare.

And stick to it!! This will hopefully put some heat on Fitz.

yeah but Fitzpatrick knows how bad Geno Smith is and how much more popular he is in the locker room. He and his agent would probably laugh at that deadline and its reasoning. I imagine they'd call the Jets on that bluff

Go ahead call it..... its not a bluff if they stick to it.
The entire football world would understand if we trot Geno out there with a whole off season of preparation compared to Fitz not being with the team.

He knows how bad Geno was in the past. No one knows what Geno Smith is now. By all accounts, he's looking much improved. I hope he does call the Jets bluff, and the Jets tell him go eff himself and he's left sitting home without a job.

Fitz is a 34 year old QB who has never been to the playoffs. Seriously, this is only a big deal in Jetsland at this point. If he doesn't sign with us we might lose one more game next year than if he does and it ain't gonna be the Super Bowl.

You don't have to leave him without a job, you just anoint Geno the starter if he doesn't sign by lets say 1 week before training camp. Its not like Fitz is Aaron Rodgers and we are losing a top QB we are losing a journeyman for 1 game to perhaps a player with a future. Who knows if Geno pulls out a victory against the Bengals maybe he starts game 2. I'm sorry but this bullshit has gone on long enough and the Jets have to show this won't be tolerated.

Sticking to that would be a ballsy move. Lets say they do what you describe.. and they tell Fitzpatrick if doesn't sign with the Jets by the 1st preseason game, Geno is the starter no matter what. He calls them on that bluff (I would). and eventually they come to an agreement by the 3rd preseason game or something. They go in that game and Geno starts and does something typically Geno ... like running out the back of the endzone for a safety, or giving some free interceptions out on his way to the sideline... then they'll bring out Fitzpatrick in the second half as the "back up QB". How are the fans and players going to react to that? My guess is not good.

No, one doesn't have to leave him without a job, but at this point, I'm about ready to say just tell him to eff off, and move on. Trade for McCown or sign some other vet and let that guy and Geno compete for the starting spot. Fitz isn't that good.

Who gives a shit how the fans react? The Jets certainly shouldn't. Most fans don't know squat. Besides, it's a preseason game. That would be the time to get any dumb moves like that out of the way.

I'll tell you how the Jets should react to Fitz's bullshit....... Not good. So be it let the media say what they want if set a deadline now I honestly think the media and fans would understand.

Fair enough about fans but I mean the Jets organization does tend to care more than they should.

But the real thing is how the players react. I have a sneaking suspicion that there are a lot more "pro-Fitz" players than "pro-Geno" players. It would probably be laughed at in the locker room if they tried to keep Fitzpatrick on the bench when/if he signs because the front office told the staff they need to stick to their guns in negotiation. I don't see loud vets like Brandon Marshall taking kindly to that idea.

I DON"T GIVE A SHIT!!! You can't let veterans think pulling a move like this for extra money should be tolerated anyway.

There is no reason to be crying about this AGAIN at this point. There is nothing that is happening between mini-camp and TC--why the continued angst and teeth gnashing on this Monday June 27 is non-sensical.

And the only people's reaction that matter are the players in the locker room. Bowles loses the vets if Fitz signs but Bowles yanks the chain and goes with Geno.

You tell the team first and let them know that commenting on the matter should be avoided if its not team speak. Bowles is our leader and if the players truly respect him they will follow. If they don't put them in the dog house. How would Parcels handle this? Bowles is from that tree he should follow suit.

Yeah, I know. I wouldn't be shocked if Fitzpatrick misses all of camp and signs up prior to the final cutdown. Why does he need to go to camp anyway? he knows the system more than anyone on the roster, Veteran QBs get signed all time and step in with teams they miss camp with. At least Fitz has a real familiarity here
