Just got back from the movie and... It wasn't the best sequel ever made. Seemed to me that the director and writers stayed too close to the original. So close that the original overshadowed the sequel for the majority of the movie. It should have been made perhaps 10 years ago as it certainly doesn't appear this movie was in the pipeline the last 20 years. They did have quite a few familiar faces but again, they simply reprised their original roles from the first movie. This movie should have been named Independence Day 1.5. Thankfully, enough of the originals were eliminated that ID 3 should be original enough to stand on its own merits for better or worse. Movie was 40% full at 1:30pm on a beautiful Sunday so don't look for the numbers to be huge. I doubt it comes in 2nd behind the kiddie flick. Oh well, wasn't the best movie, wasn't the worst. Verdict: 5/10 and wait for the DVD. Now it did seem more suited for 3D so if there's any of you that like the 3D versions of movies, you might get a kick out of this one.
